Laptop looks good iffy. My only question is only 2 gb of RAM? Even with streaming they cam be aweful slow. The op system eats most of the working RAM so not much for other programs. But for primarily going online probably just fine. And I agree with others that an external DVD is pretty cheap now days.

Amoret, so glad you have a better bed! Seeing the great outdoors, sunshine, greenery and flowers can really brighten your day.

Spent the day with my 91 yr old mother-in-law. She was doing fine living alone in So Fl (Delray Beach), with her sister living nearby, but about 2 years ago her second son (not my man!) railroaded her into selling her condo and moving into an independent living facility in Ocala. Poor woman is all alone in that place. She is Jewish and there are no other Jews there. She just hates it and sits alone in her little apartment all day. She can't drive, so she is dependent on another son who lives near by for everything. When we are home we visit, bring her meals anf take her shopping. Her memory is not great, we have the same conversation over and over, but she can take care of herself. She is furious they did this to her but she knows we were not a part of it. We were not included in the decision and when we found out were completely against it. We had a nice visit, lunch, shopped a little, and she is a joy and inspiration to me.

Such a shame that as we get older and really need family the jerks show their true colors and blow it apart. More to the story but I just get so ...... and worry about her, it is nice to get to visit her. She lives about 45 min/1 hr away so it's not like a quick trip to visit, but she is so happy to see me when i come. Both of us when we can.

So overall it was a good day.

Well that stinks, what the son did to/for his mother. I'll bet he doesn't even visit much. So nice of you to visit with her when you can.

She is so angry she won't speak to him. He lives in Rhode Island. She even said to me today "I don't even want him at my funeral!" Now THAT is sad.

Is she religious? Can the local Jewish congregation of her choice be told about her social and spiritual needs? Even though there is no one of her cultural/religious heritage at the facility, the community should be available.

That is a crummy situation, and there should be resources available.

Probably, but she hasn't practiced (is that the right term?) her religion in many years. It is her background and roots, however. She does not seem to want to reach out to her religion at this point, but that is a definite excellent idea I will run by her. Don't know how receptive she would be to the idea if I don't ask.

Thank you Omg!

Well I went to bed early tonight (around 8:30) and went right to sleep. Had a very busy day today. Got all the pool stuff done except adding 2 more 40lb bags of salt, by the time I got to the salt my get up and go had got up and went. Took some water down to Ace Hardware and had it tested and added the few extra chemicals needed to get the water balanced, PH was perfect but some of the other stuff needed a little tweeking. Anyway, after getting to sleep, nature called around 10:00 and I got up to take care of the call and can't get back to sleep. Figured I would come on downstairs and check in here, maybe the hangout for a while or read my book. I figure another hour or so and I'll be tired and can go back to bed. Probably won't do the hangout cause I don't have my top plate in and don't want to freak you all out with my toothless grin!

PC lesson for today ...

Sticking more DIMMs into a motherboard won’t change the speed at which the processor executes code, adding RAM simply reduces the need for Windows to rely on “virtual memory”.

There is a negligible improvement in everyday tasks / speed with increased RAM .. everyday tasks being the operative word ..

ImageResizer.ashx

Intensive photo / video / music editing is the exception to this general rule, and in those cases at least a Haswell class / Intel CPU with 8GB would be preferred ... if you use software that can utilize

DVD / CD drives are so last century .. SD card / USB Thumb Drive is really the preferred way to go .. the small capacity of a DVD disk ... Single-layer discs hold 4.7GB ... where a 32 GB thumbdrive can be had for well under $20 clams, and is much more robust .. many older softwares, that came on CD / DVD won't run properly on WIN 8.1 anyway .. however, if you watch DVD's on PC, a DVD drive would be good to have .. ;)

And, an essential part of any laptop should be an HDMI out jack, so you can output to your TV any content ... Bluetooth is also nice ..

I know it's easy to forget I'm so much more than just a pretty face around here .. ;)

that's one thing I don't like about my son's house.......the bathrooms are really small.
I hate that. Then, there are these huge bathrooms in remodeling shows that make me feel chilled just looking at them. Too much space to heat when you're wet and naked.

Good to be seen! It's always nice to be reminded that I'm not invisible!

Kenna popped in the hangout for a bit a bit ago. Still not doing very well, poor thing, but it was so good to see her. Haven't seen too much of Peach either. Miss everyone
The HO has really turned out to be a blessing for those not up to posting. And, so are you, Deb!

My grandmother stayed in her own home until the very end. My mother had Alzheimer's, and being in the home she had been in for decades along with her mother made all the difference.

My grandmother died on her own terms, in her own house. I'm so sorry that was taken away from your MIL! Thank God she has you!

I keep forgetting whether Haswell class is submarines, destroyers, battleships or aircraft carriers.

Nice find on that laptop, Willie... got me thinking about getting one myself.

It used to be that most of my shirts were pull-overs and t-shirts.

Recently, I've bought a number of button front shirts.

I've started to put them on, take them off, and launder them without unbuttoning the buttons. Figure some of you will either find that amusing or a good idea.
