if you have 7 you can get it for free, but some of the puter folks will have to tell you HOW to do that if you don't have an update icon on your task bar

If you signed up for the free copy and gave Microsoft your email, they will notify you when it's available to download. Here's the message I got from MS: We want to give every customer a great upgrade experience, so we’re rolling it out in an organized way to manage high demand and to make sure that the upgrade is right for your device. When Windows 10 is ready for your device, it will download in the background. You’ll then get a notification to schedule your upgrade right away or at another time that is convenient for you.

When I went to the doctor and they sent me to the emergency room, it was a new place I hadn't gone before. Then, when I went in for my second visit, they walked me over to the emergency room again.

Today, for the first time, I went there, got a check-up, and did not go to the emergency room! Third time's the charm!
YAAAYY!!!

Upgraded/changed my laptop to Windows 10, a couple hours after I put it on my desktop.

Sitting at Gate D20, RDU, an hour before the first leg of my two-leg flight to Montreal for my niece Julie's wedding. Was up at 2:45 am after going to bed about 12:30 am. I don't mind being tired for an airline flight but do have a problem if the pilots are tired.

Have a safe trip BB.

In the general interest of positive thinking and all that jazz, I propose that we adjust some numbers:

Bad things are to occur in quantities of zero. When this principle is violated by the occurrence of a bad thing, there must be a minimum of 10 consecutive good things prior to the next such violation.

There is no upper limit for the amount of good things that can happen.

Janet, that "yay" graphic may be my favorite one ever. Those exuberant little smilies are the greatest, as long as I don't have to babysit them!

I once made the mistake of wandering around muttering that if life balanced out I should have ten good years coming. So then life did get pretty good - for exactly ten years. Since then it's been going downhill in spurts, with no back ups.

Now I'm very careful about how I phrase my wishes.

For Windows 10 I'm protected from my geeky self by being stuck here. By the time I get home to my laptop the worst of the glitches she have been found - and maybe even corrected.:D

I'm assuming that touch screens will still be supported - that's the only reason that I went with 8/8.1 start with. Otherwise I would have stuck with 7, and that's what I did get for Jim.

has anyone upgraded to windows 10 yet ?
I have the notification that it's ready, but i'll wait a bit for any kinks to get worked out. Like that password thing. Private everything should be the default. I shouldn't have to work for it.

Mickeysoft has often been way behind on security...

Many of us have been griping since 3.1 that "known" file type extensions are OFF by default. They need to be ON, i.e. displayed, in any file explorer app. The extension tells the OS what kind of file it is. Some are executeable, i.e. .exe .dll and so on. Big difference between picture.jpg and picture.jpg.exe. The first IS a picture, the second a program. But if they both show up as picture to you, you don't know if clicking it is going to start your image viewer or a virus...
