Yea, we missed ya...

I did spend a bunch of time researching a new 'tool' for website development, instead of hanging out on ECF. I've been using Frontpage 'forever' for web development and an Access database for a small forum I run. Yeah I know it's a dinosaur but it's done the job for me.

Well my hosting provider is updating servers and the new version of Microsoft's OS/IIS no longer supports Frontpage extensions so the website will definitely crash and burn. So it has to be redone. Also they're dropping support for Access databases.

I'm thinking of going to Rapidweaver, now that my main 'puter is a Mac. But I'm stumped on how to move the Access database to a MYSQL database. I know very little about Access and nothing about MYSQL. I kind of hate the thought of shutting down the forum but without being able to migrate to MYSQL I don't have a chance of saving it.

When the migration is done the website will still be 'live' although 'broken' but the database will be deleted. I wish that had given me more than a month's notice that this was going to happen.

I'm thinking this might not work with a Mac but I don't really know, just guessing. However, it seems to be a pretty good explanation of how to convert an Access database to a MYSQL database, at least with a Windows machine:

MySQL :: MySQL Connector/ODBC Developer Guide :: 6.4.1 Exporting Access Data to MySQL

Good morning,Matt:)
Morning Fran. Slept great last night but woke up feeling a little "muzzy" this morning. Hopefully as the day progresses I will wake up and be more focused. Today is fix the back sliding glass door. Hopefully when 8 am done you'll be able to open it with two fingers instead of the two hands and a foot it takes now. :)

I just went back in time and listened to Uncle Willie's post of Bruce Springstein My Father's House. Reminds me of when my Dad passed away.

My Dad had a pacemaker. Years before I found a "joke" in Reader's Digest that said "Show me a man with a song in his heart and I will show you a man with an AM/FM pacemaker". We had good chuckle and it was always our joke. Dad played guitar (so does my brother) and we would sing by the campfire when we camped as young tykes.

One morning I was at work and about 10:30 am that joke popped into my mind. Again and again. Why so sudden was this happening? That afternoon I received a phone call from my step-mother. Dad died from an aneurism at 10:30 that morning.

Weird, and still sticks in my brain. This was about 34 years ago. My son was the only grandchild he got to hold and play with. My son is named after my Dad. I will always miss him.

Enough of the sad stuff!!! Back to the fun!

Iffy, I don't usually have much to say. But, I did enjoy it.

I've 'known' some of you for 3 1/2 years. I just wanted to stare at you all. To actually see you face to face was amazing!
Hoping you didn't take my comment wrong I was yust yoking around. We have a lot of friends where we used to live that are into the same sort of things I think I remember you saying you were when asked about your screen name. It was good seeing you in person last night.

Last night in the Hangout, it was suggested by one member that another member looked like Tommy Lee Jones. I felt that he (who shall remain nameless because I treasure being in one piece) looked like somebody other than Tommy Lee Jones but I couldn't put my finger on just who that was.

After considerable water, tequila, unfiltered vinegar, forethought, tequila, unfiltered vinegar and water, I have come to the conclusion that Walter Matthau is the actor to whom I find the unnamed member to bear a resemblance.

No, I'm up REALLY early. I woke up with my brain in 2nd gear and decided to edit my wanted post . But as I told 2legs I'm having a few days of bad tech hair. Can't get any luck doing posts or edits or anything.
You saw my post to the conversation right. You should be vaping your new Provape1 Monday.

these books helped me with SQL
SQL in 10 Minutes, Sams Teach Yourself (4th Edition): Ben Forta: 9780672336072: Amazon.com: Books
which has links to download a database to work with

SQL All-in-One For Dummies: Allen G. Taylor: 9780470929964: Amazon.com: Books

a fantastic second reference

also good to get!

Thanks for reminding why I have this note on my table - Never Ask David How To Fix "Anything"... :D

Things that can't be fixed with a hammer either need a bigger hammer or duct tape. :)

If it works, don't fix it.

If I can't fix it, it isn't broken

BTW, we may have convinced Willie to upgrade a lil' on his '60s vaping equipment...

Not having taken notes during your, and others, impromptu educational seminar regarding What's Hip, Hot and Desirable as my Next Step in the Evolution of My PV Use (and, BTW, what's wrong with 1960's gear .. ?? I consider my antiques classics and candidates for the eventual Museum of the History of the PV .. :) ) .. and let me add, kudos to the help in spending my hard earned dinero for me .. you guys are very, very good at it .. ;) ..

At any rate, after recovering from a self induced haze of Tequila and what shall not be mentioned here .. I think the brain cells I was using to store the suggestions were the same cells that died out last night .. sooooo ..

Was it : Eye Stick and a Cinnamon Roll tank .. ?? or, Ear Shtick and a Rolex Tank .. ?? no, wait, it was Eye Pole and a Bird Bath Tank .. don't help me now, I'll get it in a minute .. Glass Eye Pole and a 4 Barrel Carburetor Tank .. ?? ;)
