Yes I agree with you 100%. But I really did know I couldn't change his mind and I didn't have time to beg and argue. We have already had that discussion and reached a compromise. My neighbor has a beach house that she stays at most of the time. He liked my suggestion to go down to her house and let the ambulance pick him up there.

I really do want to thank everyone here from the bottom of my heart for the love and support. I will be at his house at least until hubby mows his yard. I don't trust him. Or maybe. . . I just know him.
Hopefully with the stent he will do OK, but it would be a good idea to stay with him for a while. I don't know how far away the beach house is or if it is uphill or downhill, the exercise might make things worse in a critical condition. I would think he would have enough sense to know not to do that if the situation were critical. I wouldn't want the guilt of driving four miles to get to him and drive him to the hospital, only to have him die because he didn't get immediate attention.

Can you get him one of those "help, I've fallen and cant get up" thingies? Or can a relative move in? I have a ninety-year old friend whose grandson lives with him, and it seems to work out well.

Certainly relevant to the discussion of reminders of the Confederacy. We need to always remember what that war, and slavery, did to our country. And monuments, etc, are ways of remembering. We are a long way from forgetting.

The other racist bastion, however, survives by denying and lying about its past. And, until recently, by intimidating its opponents. Honoring the confederate flag falls short of honoring slime-balls like BY.

Balance in all things.

Even my own church openly acknowledges its excesses of the past. And works to refine herself.

Ya. but the VA battle flag was there longer, and people want to ban it. so it only makes sense that we should ban all symbols of the defeated.
Like Holocaust museums. Because they remind us that a group of people who were defeated stood for something we don't agree with.
....
ya... sorry...
the flood of hate on Fakebook is starting to get to me.

That's one of the reasons why I have very little to do with Facebook. I enjoy my blood pressure right where it's supposed to be.

Depending on location and other factors, someone getting a ride from a loved one who lives 4 miles away might easily get to the hospital sooner than an ambulance would have arrived at the house to pick up the patient.

That may be true, but at least the ambulance techs would be able to help him if his heart stopped on the way. The crew would also be alerting ER staff of his condition so there's no time wasted once he arrives. Of course the ride in itself could be upsetting enough to cause it's own problems. All the possibilities have to be weighed against the patient's wishes, but I hope he's considered what he would do if family wasn't home.

With this post, I'm 25 away from reaching 10,000 on the ECF...I don't hang out here much anymore but figured if I come here now and then I'll reach 10K in no time. Just wondering if the ECF gives you a prize for reaching such a number? Well, I'm thinking probably not.. LOL

Meet Me in St Louie Louie
After catching up on posts this AM, I'm going to attempt to refrain from posting a manifesto or screed, however, I am compelled to note :

As a teen, I attended a 90% Latino High School, which caused me to immerse myself in the culture because I had to in order to survive .. my best friends were Latino, I dated Latino girls, I hung with these folks, was invited to their homes and became accepted as who I was, a white guy in a brown World .. and I enjoyed it and came to know these folks as hard working, family centric, culturally diverse, honest, accepting .. all things that we as a people generally treasure .. so, to this day, the hate speech that sometimes occurs regarding this faction of ethnicity is disturbing to me ..

After High School, I spent a year in the Central Highlands, Pleiku Province, Vietnam .. a good portion of the patriots I stood next to, the regular Army, not those in charge, were young African Americans .. which, again, I had no choice but to assimilate into .. and I found that my Brothers in Arms bled, cried, missed Home, missed their Families, had many of the same hopes and dreams all of us had .. and I became proud of them and proud of us, as a team .. because we had to set aside any differences, because our very lives depended on it ..

After my stint and eventual Honorable Discharge, and going thru one of the hardest periods in my life where I spun into a very bad place (if anyone remembers my posts on that, I'm not going into it here) .. when I eventually pulled myself out with the considerable help of an African American young woman, I immersed myself into the music of the Delta .. it pulled me in through it's pain, it's joy, it's rich history going back to the cotton fields and even beyond .. and so, once again, I assimilated myself into the culture and within my circle, became accepted ..

You see, I remember the white only signs .. I remember pretty much all those hateful, demeaning and outright violent bits of a sad History .. where it didn't much matter how good a man you were, or how good a woman .. because the color of your skin was the determining factor .. maybe not everywhere in the Country, but certainly in the South ..

So where am I going with this .. ?? An undercurrent of Racism still exists, and for the most part, we as a Country don't seem to want to admit it .. but it seems to me, like an alcoholic or an addict, admission and honest discussion is the first step to understanding ..

Symbols invoke feelings .. the American Flag invokes emotion for me at a personal level .. I served under it, my ancestry is one of Immigration .. who came thru Ellis Island longing for the freedom so sadly lacking in where they came from ..

I volunteer at a local Homeless Shelter / Soup Kitchen primarily used by people of color .. I listen to their stories .. and, if I were a Religious man, I would say "There, but for the Grace of God go I" .. because we are all responsible in a way, for each other .. is that not the fundamental rock all Faith is built on .. ??

Symbols can and do also divide us .. the good news being we live in a Land where we have the Freedom to express .. sometimes, however, expression means doing the right thing ..

Dave, since this is a Lounge thread, posts you make here do not add to your total number of posts, unless the Forum rules changed when I wasn't looking.

Posts on the Front Porch count, but posts on the Back Porch don't.

Uncle Willie, your most recent post was particularly well-said!

And I am grateful.

The doctor insists I eat a bowl of oatmeal every day for my heart.

Heehee, he'll eat anything I fix. . . except liver. It is very good for you.

But am I missing something here? No need for another bypass?

Deb, he had 5 balloons (inflating the artery) and then had his bypass surgery in 1996. After 19 years (and no problems), the same place started closing up again and was 90% blocked. They put a stent in which just holds the artery open and now it is working.

You know I was just kidding about your mult-posts. I love em'.

And I do reserve the right to use this against you when YOU get hardheaded! (ask kay) lol

Go for it. If you got it to work on Kay. . . you should have no problems with me. heehee

I don't get it. . .

I love rat humor.

Hopefully with the stent he will do OK

I know he will. He maybe 81 years old but he is in really good shape. He keeps his cell phone on him at all times and nitroglycerin in his pocket. Of course thanks to Willie, he will be getting new every three months from now on. See that is another good thing about sharing here. (big hug Willie)

hospital sooner than an ambulance would have arrived at the house to pick up the patient.

All I know is when my son had his motorcycle accident, I watched them put him in the ambulance with a neck brace on. I was smoking a cigarette outside the hospital emergency room when the ambulance pulled up with him. I made the right decision at the time and I am very aware that it could have been a sad situation that I would have had to lived with for the rest of my life. It's been almost 20 years since I had to even think about this and next time I hope it is different.

Breakfast was a big hit. I had given up sausage because it hurts my side every time I eat it but the turkey sausage was delicious and did not bother me. Daddy loved it also. Along with the grits, cinnamon vanilla english muffin, watermelon with fresh blueberries and black coffee. I can't believe I didn't take a picture. heehee He really is getting a long beautifully. I have been with him since Friday and me and the two dogs I brought with me are quite content.

oops, almost forgot. . . hello, nice to meet you. What beautiful flowers you have. I don't have a green thumb but mine look pretty nice this year. I have some Black Eyed Susan's that were about to bloom before I left and I bet they are open now. I take pictures like that all the time and love seeing them. More please.
