IMO, look for a med. size dripper, about the size of the "L", but with holes in the posts to stick the wire into and tighten the screws down on. MUCH easier than wrapping the wire around the screw at the top of the posts, as on the "L", then when tightening the screws down, the wire always tries to "squirm" out.

Wish I had researched a bit more before I got this "L" and found that out.

As my 16yo daughter would say, "Dad... the "L" is SO yesterday!"

Ah... Easy fix for you from the tool guys of the world!
Wrap the wire in the same direction that the screw tightens in, and it will snug in instead of squirming out!
Usually wrap clockwise instead of counter.

Just curious.... Why do people who rebuild use cotton, yarn, gauze, etc. instead of a piece of silica wick?
Question 2: Which gauge of wire to start with if you're going to learn rebuilding?
My coil of choice at the moment are the Kanger single coil bottom units, 2.5 ohm. I don't use a dripping atomizer, but it's been recommended to me to get an Igo-L to learn on. They're not expensive so will prob order one soon.

I have a Vamo V2 on order from fast tech but my current setup is two MVP2s with protank mini & Evods, and other assorted clearos. This is working fine for me, but...like so many, I am wanting to expand my knowledge and my "stash" of gear....just in case.

Cotton wicks better, has better flavor, and is easier to work with. You can rebuild your Kangers easier than a dripper. :) Start with 32 or 30 gauge. Search the forums and there is a good calculator to tell you how many wraps for a given ohms. 5 wraps on a 5/64 drill bit with 32 gauge come out about 2.2ohms for me on a kanger mini pt2. Watch some videos on YouTube for how much cotton to use etc. nice thing with cotton is you can reuse the coil and replace the cotton.

Good luck and have fun.

In other news the package that DID get left in the mailbox was some juice I ordered with a a gift certificate I won in a contest. If you like things a bit tart I am really digging this Copper Creek Cranberry. It isn't pucker your mouth tart but it has a nice bite to it. Unfortunately it is not cheap stuff.

If you take a piece of cotton and a piece of silica and drop a drop of pg or vg on them you will notice the cotton will sop up more then the silica does. More juice getting to the wick will give more flavor and vapor. Silica has the advantage of being able to be dry burnt. Cotton dry will just burn. Obvious minus for cotton. I can go to Walgreens and buy organic cotton balls and 4 dollars of cotton will last many years. Plus for cotton. Cotton can be changed easily and quickly no fuss.
I have only used cotton for a few months so I still search for the problems that may arise but so far it's the best wick I've used. That just my out look there is lots of views on wicks. So far I have used silica, yarn, cotton, Steel mesh(don't get me started on this one). I find ease of use, accessibility to get and vape quality and cost for me is very good.

I believe there was talk at one time about the silica particles getting into your lungs, but I believe people have backed off that theory now? Not sure, but I think that was the start of people getting away from silica. Plus, there will always be those interested in building a better mousetrap. Mike recently started using stuff called Nextel that is truly amazing. You can put a torch to it and it still comes out unscathed and there's no boiling, rinsing, boiling etc. It's pretty expensive though, but we love the stuff and it lasts a long time. It doesn't impart any flavor at all to the juice so even your first toot is amazing. Everything else we used always added it's own flavor.

Mike or others can probably better address the kanthal issue. I've only rebuilt coils for my vivi novas, but I just used the kanthal Mike handed me and I went to work wrapping.

32 gauge kanthal will coil easy as it is thinner then 28. 26 -28 kanthal will last longer in use. There is different amounts of turns needed to be made for different size wire to get the resistance desired. After a few coils it's pretty easy to figure. I have seen a chart someone made here in the forums.

I use cotton in everything except my Divers. I haven't worked out quite why yet but when I tried the cotton build like Todd uses in his video it leaks a whole lot more no matter what I do. So for the Divers I have gone back to silica builds for the moment.

I did end up taking it, actually; just left it propped against my mug in the cupholder,

Sounds like it may be time for a "Car Mount". I use them in my cars, mounted on my bathroom/kitchen cabinets, etc.

(They also have lanyards [with pouches] that you were thinking about.)

Shipping is cheap...and they have a 20% OFF sale going on.

Have you ever checked out rip trippers coil builds. His videos are very choppy but the guy can build. I like todd, grim green and ofc pbustardo they all add allot to our community.

Between the Sophia and the Diver, is one "better"? (easier/less hassle, less likely to leak, more-available parts, less parts to lose, better vape, etc. etc.)

Are there any other rebuildables that fit into a carto tank?

Now that I have a few carto tanks, although cheap ones, I'd like to start looking into rebuildables. tia

I have not used the Sophia just the Diver 1 and Diver 2. I would honestly say if your choice is the Diver 2 or the Sophia get the Sophia. The Diver 2 is a leaking through the center post hot mess for me. The diver 1 works well. The Sophia is similar to the Diver 1. This is a real case of the new version of the Diver was NOT an improvement.

32 awg Kanthal if you are going to make regular coils in the 1.5-2.0 ohm range. 30 awg Kanthal for microcoils in the same range.
I'd recommend an Igo-M dripper or similar over the Igo-L. Most of the "M" variants have holes in the posts for you to insert the wire and that's much easier than twisting the wire around a screw.

Silica is 100% safe. The kind of silica used in wicks is not the same kind that causes silicosis. That started the movement towards cotton. I use cotton because it's easy to use and gives great flavor once the wick breaks in.

He says "um" a lot. Lately he's been going back and editing all the "um's" out. That's why they are choppy. He does build an awesome coil, though. He has a real gift for explaining how to do it well.

I need to see if Rip has one for the Diver 2. All I can say is with the huge juice holes even with my 50/50 juices the Diver 2 is a leaking mess with cotton for me. I can get it to behave with a silica build (somewhat).

Not that I know of but you could bite the bullet and get a kayfun lite plus. I have been rebuilding for about a year and it is the easiest build I've used. The clones vape as well as the real ones do if your looking to save some money. :2c:

There is also the Killer and the older terminators (current terminators are no longer rebuildable). I haven't used either.

Question regarding the Nicotine so I can make my own ejuice... I can't vape the Pg, it breaks my mouth out even at a 70vg/30pg ratio. I was just reading the post about storing nicotine with vg doesn't store well for long, like nicotine with pg. So what are my options if I want to stock up for future use? Does that make sense, or did I totally misunderstand the post?

The Killer 705 and the "Terminator" clone. Terminator R/A Atomizer- Small Can't help beyond that. Never got into cartotanks.

I would also recommend getting a Kayfun Lite + either the real thing or a clone. Just don't buy the "Rocket" rebuildables, they might look like a Kayfun, but they are garbage compared to the stainless steel clones.

Hi everybody, I found the Back Porch a few days ago. I was welcomed like family (maybe better...?) and subscribed. Well I've been trying to read this thread from the beginning for a couple of days now. Got to about page 90, and realized I had read these before when I first found the ECF. So I skipped ahead a few pages and then a few more...... totally missing conversations....I'm going to have to go back and start at 90. But there 254 pages now. Figure I'd go ahead and introduce myself to y'all good folks here on the Front Porch first.

So glad Tx and others decided to build this wonderful "virtual" Porch, and to invite the whole family over!!
