I would like thank all who have read and shared in this thread. I have spent my entire adult life trying to quit smoking. It was not until I found vaping that I found a way to become smoke free. This has been a journey that has been a long time coming. It is comforting that there have been so many good folks before me and hopefully many, many more to follow. I feel like even though we haven't met, we are all friends along this road. Why not share our thoughts and experiences?

Congratulations Free for giving vaping a try. I never thought anything would work for me either. What a sense of FREEDOM! Even after almost 2-1/2 years it's still a wonderful feeling knowing that I don't smoke anymore! I can tell you're doing the happy dance along with the rest of us
How did you get into vaping?

One of the reasons why I am not into rebuilding coils. I know that I would have difficulty getting out of the sub-ohm realm.

Nah, you'd be fine. I did it and don't even have a very good understanding of why it works. Mike had already figured it out and what he showed me was what I'd seen on the videos.

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. Could be a bad rubber grommet insulator on the bottom. One thing to remember when folks talk about the "number of wraps". One wrap around a pencil will not be the same as one wrap around a toothpick! The total length of the wire is what determines the total resistance of your coil. Good Luck!

Sounds like good advice. Nice of you to jump in Jake! Don't be a stranger, come on in and sit a spell.

Hello and welcome to the thread. There's just so many of us here on the porch that smoked longer than most members of ECF have been alive. And most of thought we'd be smoking 'till we stopped breathing. Yes, Yes - I so agree with you it wasn't until my wife and I started vaping that I finally saw the chance to quit. It took me a couple months but now it's going on 2 1/2 years and I'm so thankful and grateful to the ECF and the folks on the porch that helped me so much.

If you know that you want a 1.8 ohm coil the way I do it is by ordering $2.39 Pre-made Welded Wires - NR-R-NR (100-Pack) 100-pack - 0.18mm (33 AWG) / 1.8ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping . I wrap this on a 2mm screw DUB695 Threaded Couplers 2mm 2 | eBay .For wick I use 1mm silica. To thread it through the coil simply take a straight piece of coil wire, place it over the wick and form a needle, and use this to pull the doubled wick through the coil. you will have a perfect 1.8 ohm coil and the exact size wick for the coil. It also works great for using a single piece of peaches and cream yarn from Walmart.

Hi, all - thought I'd better introduce myself, I've been lurking here for 2 weeks! Soaking up all the knowledge and support you guys & gals give so generously. Gonna take a while for it all to sink in. Been vaping for a week now and got mom, at 83, to start too. Still smoking some but figure I have to up the nic. Nothing else has come even close to working, now I know I have a fighting chance to quit the tobacco. Thank you all so very much for sharing and supporting!

I never thought it would happen to me but I have developed a "driptip" addiction. I got three in last week and one is to be used for when I am unhappy with somebody. You toot out of the middle finger just in case you hadn't figured that one out yet. bahahahahaha I haven't had to use it yet but it's only a matter of time....... I like to be prepared.:D

Iffy - here' my update on trying Nextel XC-116 for a wick in my R91. Well you can't get two weeks out of it, I tried. It was still making nice plumes of vapor but yuck the taste just wasn't good. So I opened it up and this is what I found. bleeck! Someplace under that blob is a coil.

I dry burned it until I could work the wick out. Then dry burned the coil more to clean it up good. The Nextel wick was all black and caked with burnt juice under the wick area. I held one end w/ hemostats and torched it w/ Janet's Creme Brulee torch. It cleaned up like new - all white again. So I carefully worked it back in. I couldn't do it just wetting the tip and trying to thread it through, so I put a bit of blue painters tape on one end. Cut it to a point, and got it in w/o any trouble.

Looks like new again.

R2D2 - this one's for you. I don't really do sub-ohm 'cause my main PV is a Provari (that might change next week when I get my 1st decent mech, instead of the China ones I tried). So this is a 1.0Ω, 28g Kanthal coil. The Provari is only set to 3.2 volts for 10 watts and how much more vapor does one need. I usually have it set at 3.4 volts (11 1/2 watts) and when I need a nic fix I can go to 3.9 volts (15 watts) before I exceed the Provai's limits.

Another great mind has joined us...thank god....yea...those pre-mades look good and will order..

One question for everyone ...the issue about fastech and their shipping...

I have been hearing the good and the bad..mostly bad..particularly about shipping..this guy here is a reviewer and expressed his "outrage" of having to wait...(drum roll) a whopping three months!!...for his order.

any opinions out there on fastech would be of help thanx

You're right Mike

My intention was to create(or recreate) a simple single coil for my kanger, period. My mistake was to use a thicker gauge instead of the proper 34g which would require less wraps. On the ECig forum one guy explained this to me. He stated you would need about 7-15 wraps for a 26g to work right. and true, once I used the Kanthal calculator it made sense. I followed all the details and explanations found online, particularly those of PBusardo's rebuild tutorial to the letter, and still ended up with 0.1......and no...not a typo...kept getting 0.0 on my Vamo 3..but again, my wraps, the wiring being straight not touching any metal inside, proper positive/negative..etc...I know Im missing something but what it is I have no idea...

waiting for my 34g Kanthal....need to learn to properly wrap this gauge...if you know on this forum any good threads or online on wrapping this 26g please link me up....

As to Sub-ohming,that was not my initial intention either...most kids here in the vaping scene of Miami actually are into it, not me. I am only searching for that elusive simple 1.8Ohm coil....Lollll

happy Saturday y'all

Geez - I can't imagine even w/ 26g how you're winding up w/ .1 and 0.0Ω coils unless you're wrapping it around a pin or something really small in diameter. But you've taken a good step moving up to 34g for coiling a Kanger. I was using 32g when working with coils for Vivi Nova's and that worked pretty well. Keep us posted on how it going for you - if you don't figure it out on your own I'm sure talking about it here will get you some help.

......I seem to recall posting on the "old Porch" a few months ago ....passing my 63rd birthday surely puts me in this fine group ....I am quite sure Vaping saved my life .....I knew I had to quit.....40 some odd years of fairly heavy smoking ...( 30 years of 2 packs a day ) ....and I went upstairs one day 2 years ago this March and was terribly out of breath when I got to the top .....and had just read about e cigs on my ADD forums....had already tried the patch, lozenges, and gum ....nope ....so for the first 6 months I tried several different types of e cigs .....gave up reg cigs within 2 weeks .....but continued to search for the right set up .....

......ended up with Kanger T3s, ( the latest ones ....with the clear tips and replacable atomizer at 5 for $5.98 !) they hold 2.2 ml, so I don't have to constantly fill them .....and the Vision Spinner 1300, but 2 out of the 8 batteries I ordered didn't work when I got them ....

....So I wasn't real thrilled with that quality .....although when I got a good one, it was fine .....but then I read about SMoktek VV 1300 and tried one out ....excellent quality ....but I still was having trouble knowing which strength to get for the Clearo....i.5 ?? 1.8 ? 2.2 ? ....2.5 ?? .... and I think I was burning the lower level atomizers out with the 1300 battery ....but I wanted a easy to drag on coil

.....So tonight I ordered 2 more Smokteks ....but the Smoktek VV/VW 1300 ....they have variable voltage, and variable wattage too .....and a 30% warning light, and will shut down if the battery has less than 3.3v and I have read that you shouldn't run the battery all the way down....they'll last longer if you charge them before they cut out .....this 30% warning should help making them last longer ....

...also, I read something about the wattage linking itself to the voltage so that you don't burn out your low oHm coils, but I can't find where I read that !....

...They're 28 bucks from Smoktek, and you can order directly from them ....( I don't work for, or get kick backs from Smoktek, just like to pass on good deals !)

....and having variable wattage, and a 30% warning are 2 bells I think are really useful on a eGo type battery ....

...Now if they just came in purple too !

......I believe these may be the strongest and smartest of the eGo type batteries ....and while I do like the way the Vision Spinners look better than the Smoktek, it's no contest about which I'll be using .....

oh and I go up and down stairs all day long, and while my knees aren't thrilled about it ....my lungs have no problems now !

Welcome to the new people!!

And as with the old porch, I'm gonna try
TRY

To convince you guys to get a twitter account and add your voice to prevent this wonderful thing like vaping from being regulated out of existence.
Look each day here and on FaceBook for the daily action plan and help!!

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ight-vape-weekend-action-plan-02-01-14-a.html

I'm all for it Mike...yes...lets support Vaping as the alternative...however, this issue requires more than just a Twitter account and a Facebook post.

The reasons for RJ Reynolds having such control over the tobacco industry is that, not only do they have their hands in the politicians pockets, but their "lobbyists" are most likely the best in the country in getting their product to be the one source for all your tobacco needs. We as vapors have no lobbyist, have no congressional, legislative voice to properly speak out and get one on one with Washington.

The true is,no one seriously knows what is nor what may be good nor bad about vaping. On Phil Busardos website he has a Q and A about the benefits of vaping and what goes into Ejuice. Who made him commander and chief?...truth be told, what goes into these products and the items we use to vape can be explained by the most reputable authority on electronics and physics, and yet, we want to believe, we want an alternative and so, as human beings we will move towards what we want to believe.

Just recently my mom and pop vaping store here in Miami have been issued an injunction from the courts to remove their name "Riptech" from their products as it conflicts with a new company being issued and micromanaged by big tobacco called "Riptide" which will soon be hitting the stores. they have no choice but change, however, this is just the beginning.

If we can find someone,an entity that will pull and push for the vaping community on the presumably good benefits of vaping, then by hitting the pavement and walking and walk then a niche will be created to make a statement and get the word out...to the political circles that need to know.

At the moment, all we have are the voices of our own within stating that, "such and such scientist or physician" have proven that vaping is good and no negative side effects are present. How are these guys to tell me its safe?...

My apologies for playing the devils advocate but,at this stage in my life I say it as i see and feel it. We need to stop following the followers and get organized. The idea of CASAA is great but, we need more than just grassroots, we need politics.

While at my doctors visit, I was watching the flat screen news on TV in the waiting room. The medical authority on CNN was questioning someone in the FDA I believe or a medical expert about Vaping and Ecigs. They concluded that they still do not have enough data on the subject and stated its better than analogs, but the health risks are still unknown...period. I do not believe the 99.9% of crap on CNN nor and news media, but this much I know, no one is an authority, at least not yet....

(vapes and rocks back and forth ponderin')

For FT, I usually get my orders in 2 weeks give or take a day ot two. Watch the shipping method chosen. Singapore Post took a month while my last order I chose epacket USPS and got it in 15 days (that includes 5 days it stayed in customs in Chicago). Overall I am well satisfied with every thing I have ordered from FT. I got several mods and a couple of Kayfuns that worked well, but I just found that I was more happy vaping my evods and novas on my bolt. I do use the VV once in a while but I never found a setting that beats the bolt at 1.8 ohms. By the way, I am 62 so I guess I can slide into this group.

Well Haze. If you would like to start a croudfunding campaign for vaping lobbyists, then I will contribute. I do not have the money to do it myself or the qualifications to set something like that up. :)
Until then I do what I can. It's all anyone can do.
As of now, the only way we have to get our message to the political idiots is twitter, mail, email and showing up for votes on legislation.
Doing less is letting someone decide for you and I cannot stand not having control of my own decisions.
I would LOVE to have a bigger voice.
As for Phil's site... He makes a point to say he is not an expert.
But to your question "how are these guys to tell me it's safe?"
The government wants you to think it is NOT safe and they outright LIE about the studies done.
I tend to trust independent, qualifies researchers doing studies much more. Well, that and the fact that I'm healthier now than when I was smoking.

And, no. I don't mind you playing the devil's advocate here. We need to know what the issues are before we can work together to find a viable solution!

Hope I didn't miss any of your points...

First off, thanks to Janet H for the welcome!
As someone who smoked for over 45 years, I think I am eligible to sit here for a while.

Haze- I have heard of just such a grassroots effort to get the good word out. It is called the American Vaping Association. They are trying to engage with a PR and Lobbying firm to spread the good news about vaping in the media as well as DC.
Also, I don't think anyone has appointed Phil as commander-in-chief, but I for one have found his no nonsense reviews and technical expertise invaluable learning tools during my first six months of vaping. And sometimes he's kinda humorous!
As far as safety goes, I'll take my chances with something that has 4 known ingredients versus the hundreds of nasty things in tobacco cigarettes.

Having the devil in the room is always helpful to keep us thinking about and looking at what we are doing. I find it enlightening to hear all sides of the arguments and then making my own informed decisions.

Welcome Russel. Sorry to hear you got ripped off. That's not nice, especially if you want repeat customers! So, you did your research, and what device did you get that has allowed you to be cig free since Oct 15? Are you getting your juice from that B&M?

Got two egos that I rotate every other day for work, evod toppers, got an mvp with a hypertank for home.
e8azu3ab.jpg

Just got vape mail today. Couple of mini protanks, drip tips for them, (cant stand metal mouthpiece) so I will be changing it up a little.
For juice I go all over, local b&ms (there are a lot around here), online, havent found a best favorite yet, got a shelf full of bottles.
Thanks for the welcomes. Been lurking for a while.
