First off, thanks to Janet H for the welcome!
As someone who smoked for over 45 years, I think I am eligible to sit here for a while.

Haze- I have heard of just such a grassroots effort to get the good word out. It is called the American vaping Association. They are trying to engage with a PR and Lobbying firm to spread the good news about vaping in the media as well as DC.
Also, I don't think anyone has appointed Phil as commander-in-chief, but I for one have found his no nonsense reviews and technical expertise invaluable learning tools during my first six months of vaping. And sometimes he's kinda humorous!
As far as safety goes, I'll take my chances with something that has 4 known ingredients versus the hundreds of nasty things in tobacco cigarettes.

Having the devil in the room is always helpful to keep us thinking about and looking at what we are doing. I find it enlightening to hear all sides of the arguments and then making my own informed decisions.

Hi Jake and welcome

This is the type of forum that really brings out the best of us. I never knew about the AVA, first time here and sounds great. and yes, vaping is obviously a better solution to analogs any day.

I have been a smoker since 1973-74'(I feel like im on an AA meeting..lol) and still to this day still smoke them, but way less than before as Vaping is carefully moving them out. Hope my openness about smoking does not sway any dislikes towards me. Unfortunately I go through my life with quite more stress than most people typically do.

I did quit analogs back in 2000, but unfortunately it caused more harm to me than smoking. The first week brought about the worst anxiety imaginable. At the time I should have taken a prescribed med for easing my way out but didn't heed the warning. I quit "cold turkey" as it were, my will power is way more in control than most. But at a price..........

The first three weeks brought about the amazing sense of smell and taste. i was having an orgasm while at the supermarket sniffing a peach.

My lung capacity exceeded and I could breathe better air

The bad.........

Went to Wendy's each night and ate triple decker burgers...I went from 145 to 310LBs in less than three months. My health was deteriorating. I was able to bring it back down a bit but, that was it. I am now at 143LBs

For the next five years I was smoke free. Anyone near me smoking reds I would get nauseous.

The last two years after quitting I had the most vivid nightmares you can only imagine. waking up screaming(and im not that much into allowing fear to run through me).

after that, it was complete smoke free. how I returned back to analogs is another story and I will not bore anyone on here.

as to Phils' "disclaimers" - people still believe it, regardless if a big sign and radio button under his videos to accept the terms were available, he is not nor ever will be any kind of authority, nor should he "imply" that its healthy. true its heali-er, obviously better than analogs any day, but every reviewer stating its "their opinion" makes no difference. people will believe what they want to believe.

just speaking to the above, so cut out a lot... Not ignoring you, it's just something I do. A lot. Just ask people. :)

Yes. The forum does mostly bring out the best. But only because moderators have no hesitation in thwapping violators of courtesy. One of the reasons I stick around :D

This forum is for vapers and people who want to vape. And a number of them still smoke after a few years of vaping.
We count the number of cigarettes, pipes, cigars you don't smoke. Not the ones you do. So you are doing great!!!

To the last. Not just Phil's videos, but any video, printed word, or news cast. I have seen some pretty gullible and selectively hearing people, and the number seems to be increasing lately

Honestly, I think that vaping is just as safe as drinking tap water.
But I have no evidence to back up that claim other than my own experiences and the studies done so far. Most of the studies are comparing vaping and smoking. A very few deal just with the effects of vaping. And they seem to gel with the studies on tap water in my opinion.
But it's JUST my opionion, so I have to see and hear ad-infinitum that vaping is safer than smoking. And it happens so often that to me, it sounds like a justification instead of the fact that it is.
...And I refrain from pointing out that vaping is safer than jumping without a parashute or catch-bag. Safer than breathing under water, working in a coal mine, or any of a thousand other things.

Well, we certainly don't have 50 years of suppressed research, but the legitimate research that we do know of indicates that there is little if anything harmful in what we vape. Of course, they haven't tested all flavors from all vendors. And obviously we don't have any substantial data on long term vaping effects.

Empirical results from one test case... my morning chest rattle went away after about a week. My BP is a tad lower. My gums are healthier per my dentist.

Since I just like the "process" of smoking, and numerous attempts to quit over many years did not work for me, I'd still be smoking if not for vaping. And while I don't tell people it's "safe", I do consider it to be less UNsafe. I'm satisfied that the real research indicates that that is the case.

Given the facts about the long term effects of inhaling burned plant matter, it seems to me that vaping is clearly less harmful, and I don't figure on being around in 50 years to see what the long term effects are. Unless someone comes out with a Fountain of Youth flavor. (Are you listening, MBV??)

For FT, I usually get my orders in 2 weeks give or take a day ot two. Watch the shipping method chosen. Singapore Post took a month while my last order I chose epacket USPS and got it in 15 days (that includes 5 days it stayed in customs in Chicago). Overall I am well satisfied with every thing I have ordered from FT. I got several mods and a couple of Kayfuns that worked well, but I just found that I was more happy vaping my evods and novas on my bolt. I do use the VV once in a while but I never found a setting that beats the bolt at 1.8 ohms. By the way, I am 62 so I guess I can slide into this group.

Good morning 'Searcher', I've got quite a number of RBA's too, from cheap to expensive, and for the last few month's except for the R91 i've mainly been using Davide's toppers. I guess after a couple years of fiddling, it just nice to fill it up and vape.

Iffy, 1st attempt was just a dry burn of the wick/coil "in place". It cleaned up but not as good as I would have liked. The coil was still a bit coated and the wick still look quite black under/around the coil. I filled it up and used it, and although it was vapin' pretty good, certainly not as good as a new build. So I do it completely apart like I posted, and it's 'like new'. I hear of folks re-wicking w/ cotton every few tanks - nope, that's not for me. So if I can get this down to once a week, for me that quite tolerable. I was just curious how long it would go - 2 weeks was obvious too long. I probably go thru a tank a day on the R91. It's in rotation w/ my other PV setups.

All this coil talk and ECF really has me interested. I am going to the local B&M today for a workshop on RBA. What is a good Igo or Phoenix RDA for a noob to start with? How easy it is to swap juice on a RDA? I know they will recommend stuff at the shop but I like to have a little knowledge beforehand.

So after we hang on the porch for a while we might actually get invited inside? I don't know if I can behave inside.

An iGo-W is about a simple as they they get and works well. They're easier to change flavors - just rinse under hot water - blot dry - and give it a good soak w/ the next flavor.

I started w/ the DID clones (CHID's/DUD's) they worked well. Nice that this one comes w/ a clear tank too. I actually got 'em w/ just the SS tank and bought clear one's from iBtanked. If this one strikes your fancy - shop around - they could/should be cheaper else where. I guess the raised the price w/ the additional tank. I think I paid about $15 for 'em.

COV Gen 1a with Clear Tank

I'm 60 and quit several times. 4 months in the 70s, couple weeks here and there, couple of months after the patch. 6 months a few years ago with vaping but gave up on vape after a while. I think I might have to stick with vape this time. Safe or not it has to be better than smoking and failing.

Well sit down and join us. We'll do all we can to help you make it a successful transition to vaping this time around.

Lil followup on last nights outing...

Stepped outside for a vape in da smoker's pit* (holy bat guano!) Spotted a younger lady vaping an eGo/clearo combo. I asked how long she had been vaping. She busted out in a huge smile and said two weeks. She was almost giddy when boasting that she was down to 'bout eight cigs a day, down from a pack and half. With confidence, she stated that she was sure that she'll be smoke free in da near future.

It was da highlight of da evening!

I only had time to suggest she 'vape thru da urges' and to check out da ECF.

*Fortunately, I got to vape up wind from my ol' habit. Had quite a few stares, but unfortunately, no inquiries.

BTW, 1100 folk attended. Only saw three people vaping, including myself.

I bought my vv3s and am still happily using them. Now toppers, that's another story.

My 6 months vaping journey:

After 4 months of trying multiple batteries/mods I got an iTaste VV...WOW!!!..."This is IT!...I'm done experimenting."...bought 3 more.

After 5 months of trying multiple clearomizers I got an IBTanked...WOW!!!..."This is IT!...I'm done experimenting."...am buying more.

Well I am back from my self imposed Hiatus. I no longer feel like exploding so I think it is safe to poke my nose in a few safe threads. :)

Welcome to all the new Residents of the Porch!

I am happy to announce I have finally solved the issues with my Chi You clone and we are getting along nicely now. It turns out it does not like batteries with a solid metal bottom like my Pannys. I stuck in an IW IMR and its a happy camper. It need that tiny ring of heat shrink on the bottom or it fires constantly even with the locking ring engaged. No idea why but hey its working now I am not going to argue with it.

I still can't get the AOIS clone working worth a flip. I am very much afraid that I am going to have to go back to SS mesh with it. Nope not happy about that. I HATE SS mesh. I think I might try and find someone to drill out the hole in the bottom of the tank for me so I can get a bit more wicking up into the tank. That might solve the problem with using cotton or silica in it. Yeah I am power tool challenged.

THe R91 clone is working like a dream on my Vamo. Nice to have a use for the vamo again. LOL

Nonetheless I am still vaping my pair of REOs most of the time.
