Hi guys, what size coil unit do I need to get for use with my provari using the protank 2? It comes in 1.8 or 2.2, does it matter?
As a general rule of thumb, a higher ohm coil will last longer than a lower ohm coil. With a fixed voltage device, a lower ohm coil can produce more vapor but with a Provari you're able to adjust the voltage as desired, so it's not highly likely that you'd find the lower ohm coil better.

OK all you Provari owners, what makes the Provari so good that I'm going to have to lower my nic?

I got mine today, and before putting it in the drawer with the rest of my backups (because I just couldn't believe all the hype), I tested it. WOW , got the biggest headrush and a bit nauseous. It was a 1.9 ohm carto with 30ish mg tobacco/WTA at 3.6 V. That's been almost an hour ago, and I still can not fathom taking another hit. :2cool:
The Provaricators will apparently continue until I get a Provari, at which point everyone will decide they don't live up to the hype, and the price will drop to $30. I'm sure of it. Besides, I heard that if you dream you got a Provari then you wake up dead.

All kidding aside, you recent Provari purchasers have got me considering one more seriously than I have ever done before. My last line of defense is still holding, though, for the moment: I'm a box mod guy, not a tube mod guy.

LOL, thanks for the info...My P' should be here Monday, and I also ordered a Kayfun, so I'm hoping I can focus on juice now, except now I have to learn to build coils. Oh, well, knowledge is power :)

Thank you, that helps, but I have another question (LOL) Whats the difference in variable voltage and variable watts?

VV you set each different topper to taste. You start low up it and test vaper. If it's too low you bump up volts and retest. If it taste burnt you lower volts.
vw you find a a wattage that you like .... ie 8.5 watts is what I use. No matter what ohm topper I have it will auto adjust to what I prefer. So if I put on a 1.8 ohm topper it would give the same vape as a 2.5 No Adjusting.
In theory. Ohm' Law I'll post a link if you like.

I built my very first coil today!!!! I bought a Kayfun Lite clone (probably a clone of a clone......read: el cheapo) But anyway I built a coil on it & rather proud of myself :) I did 7 wraps of 30 on a 5/64 bit, heated & squished it together. Made a wick from rolling a bit of cotton ball. Put it on my MVP 2 to check ohms. I got 1.6. Was trying for 2.0 but its ok. This thing snaps & pops like a campfire!! Have to fan away the vapor :).

Of course it's not all sunshine & roses.....it leaks fluid out the airhole. I tried the fill it & flip it method since I was nervous about trying to fill from the side screw port. Don't think I have the correct "ketchup bottle" squirter to do that. I've watched a number of videos, and clearly there are a bunch of possible reasons for the flood. Will just keep trying & playing with it til I figure it out. I turned it upside down and vaped thru the airhole like one video showed, and it seems to have stopped leaking, but that may be because my tank is nearly empty now, lol.

Also I believe this is actually a 3.1 but was advertised as a Lite. Not real sure and I don't care. It reallllly vapes well. It tickles me that it's called a Kayfun. My name is Kay, and Kay is having Fun! Rofl

Congrats! You will never look at stock coils the same way again.

Good for you MissKate. The 1st one's the 'learner' and it seems you're off to a good start learning about it. The original Lites and clones didn't have an air adjustment on the bottom. The full size 3.1 did. That's one way to try to tell if it's a 3.1 or Lite.

Thank you, that helps, but I have another question (LOL) Whats the difference in variable voltage and variable watts?

Well basically what you're doing is adjusting how 'hot' the coil is getting. You can do this by setting the watts or the voltage depending on the PV. You can get to the 'same place' by doing either.

An advantage of the variable watt PV's is that's once set - it reads the resistance of the 'topper' and auto-magically adjusts to run that topper at the same watts. So if you have a 1.8Ω topper and set the PV to 7 watts, then change to a 2.1Ω topper - the PV will read the resistance and adjust itself to produce 7 watts.

On a VV mod - you would have to adjust the voltage when switching the resistance of your topper. The VV PV always puts out the voltage it's set to. To get the same vape from a 1.8Ω topper then switching to a 2.1Ω topper the voltage has to be changed.

Edit: oops Lego beat me to the answer.

Only thing stopping me is the price.. and the looooong distance between me and the manufacturer that provides repairs and support ;)

Heh... I think many of us who own devices that are vv/vw would love to know that very thing... I leave mine on voltage and adjust that as it suits my needs, but I always wonder how it would be different if I used watts instead.

I think I very nearly had an encounter with a vaper "in the wild" today... we went out to Hobby Lobby to find some small funnels, since I'm going to be starting that DIY stuff, and as we're driving away on L'ville-Suwanee Rd, I'm puffing away on the iTaste, and happen to glance out the side window... There's this woman grinning like mad and giving me a big old thumbs up, so I held up the iTaste like I was toasting her with it. She grins even bigger and gives me another thumbs up... I saw no e-cig or PV, but she was driving; she sure seemed to find great satisfaction in seeing someone with a PV. :thumb: I thought it was pretty cool, because most people seem to either not see it, ignore it, or find it absolutely puzzling. :D

PS: Oh yeah... and cigarette smoke still stinks. I caught a whiff while we were out, and although I used to find that smell positively mouthwatering, now it stinks, period.

Update: I broke the Kayfun down again, and refilled it (yep it was empty) This time I believe I successfully did the fill & flip!!! Its been about 15 minutes and no liquid or moisture at the airhole! I stuck some rolled pt in the hole and it is dry :p Which means there's no juice down there in the "basement" or whatever you call that area beneath the coil. Happy Dance!

Right now I'm using this on one of my MVP2s. Makes for a weighty & strange looking PV. My vamo is in the capable hands of Singapore Post. By the time it arrives I should be well on my way to knowing all the quirks of my Kayfun, at which time it will be installed to its new home atop the Vamo :)

Feeling very pleased with myself, I'm finally going to put my tool box up and settle on sofa for some vaping and TV. (Keeping a wary eye upon heretofore troublesome airhole..... Just in case )

Misswish, thank you!! Thanks to all of you for the thumbs up ;)

So I was at the only local bar/restaurant tonight, got official permission from the owner to use my "e-cigarette" there. (she "knew" that it was "only water vapor" and I tried gently to explain that it was somewhat more but didn't push that) and then got into conversation with a person who is due for a kidney transplant later this spring and is interested in trying out vaping since her doctor wants her to quit smoking. So I explained what I was using (I had my MVP along since I wanted something that didn't look like a cigarette when I asked) and she wants more info.

The problem is that she doesn't use the internet, so I am wondering what to recommend. I found ECF before I started, and knew that I didn't want a cigalike, so I am not sure what to recommend. She does get to Fargo and/or Grand Forks but I haven't dealt with the B&Ms in either to know how well they would deal with a newbie. I don't know what Walmart carries (that is one source she mentioned) or gas stations. Is there a cigalike that is better than others? Or should I try to figure out a cheap kit that she could order through someone else?

I'd already extolled the virtues of my MVP and mini protank before I knew she was interested and wasn't online. Any suggestions about either cigalikes or a basic combination I could print out for the local B&Ms would be appreciated. I stand guilty of assuming that even in rural North Dakota everyone is online.

Thank you! I found some good charts on Busardo's web site, and I finally found some information that made sense ( they compared it to a car with a manual transmission to an automatic...it made perfect sense :)

Regarding the "difference" between variable voltage and variable wattage, here's an absolute truth that may help illustrate where the difference lies:

The quality of the vape is identical. You cannot tell from the taste, feel or any other aspect of your vaping experience whether a vv/vw device is set on watts, or set on volts.

Others have stated the reasons why many (including myself) prefer to set watts rather than volts, but none of those reasons create a difference in vape quality.

The Njoys aren't bad, for disposable cigalikes; the only real complaint I've heard of them was battery life, but mine's been laying over on the table for a couple months, yeah largely unused, and I bet I could still get a hit out of it. They're also the most like cigarettes in their size and shape; the mouthpiece is actually somewhat soft, like a real cigarette filter. And they're not too costly; mine was $6.99 I think, and it's supposed to be the equiv of 2 pks of smokes. Or there's the eRoll if she wants something rechargable/refillable. They got me to the point of quitting just fine. It's not costly, I found mine for about $40-ish.

Although currently out of stock, they seem to be restocking fairly quickly something like this might be ok:
1100mAh VV eGo Battery Kit
