I've found it's more of the setting for the topper. After a little testing I found my drippers like 11 o'clock, iclears 12 o'clock and RBAs 1 o'clock. I just set it before I screw the tank on. There is something about a mech with a kick, I can set my kick to 8W and it's awesome, the same setting with the same topper on my avp tastes like a burning tire.

There shouldn't be any difference on the same topper at the same wattage so one of them is not right.

From what Mike has explained to me, it's a drop off of the vape. I can already tell that in my other devices so I figure I should be good with mine when it gets here.

Actually it's not that hard. A fully charged battery is at 4.2v which will result in the most watts for a given coil. It will quickly discharge to its nominal operating capacity of 3.7v at around 3.5v your vapor will be thinner and you will know its time to change your battery. I tend to charge every day or other day and run multiple batteries. Regulated mods will spoil you but like I said there is beauty in the simplicity of a mech. You know your battery voltage and you control your vape by building your atty to the right ohms.

My typical setup is two 2ohm coils which is 1ohm total which gives me about 17watts on my dripper. I have done .2ohm build which was about 85 watts but that is for show and I know my battery can handle the amps. I had to drill two extra air holes to feed that furnace. :)

I'd rather have a 'machine' to tell me when it's time to re-charge or throw it in the Zmax and see if it's getting low. As expensive as those batts are, I don't want to mess them up. I think it's safer than trusting my own judgement. My brain isn't overly trustworthy. I can rarely tell when the eGo's are getting close to charge time. Next thing I know, they're blinking.

What do I need to find out how low the battery is? Taking it out and sticking it in the Zmax or LT would be a pain in the kiester, just to check the volts in the batt. My ohm meter won't do that will it? I thought it just checked atty resistance.

You can get a multimeter to check your batteries at Harbor Freight for about $5-$7. It's not fancy but it does what ya need. But ya do need to take the battery out of your PV to test it. Takes a little practice, and thats when the multimeter comes in handy to check yourself a few times , but ya pretty quickly learn to recognize when the batteries getting low enough to need recharging by the vape you are getting. Also, if ya watch the clock a few times between charges you'll learn about how long it takes before needing to be charged and can go with that. Example- I know from experience my 18650 battery in my ELA will last me all day UNLESS I'm REALLY vaping a lot so I normally change batteries when I do dishes after supper. (that gives me time to recharge the battery I've taken out before I go to bed).

Even though I'm comfortable with recharging by time or change in vape every once in a while I still check to see what the voltage is before putting the battery on the charger and also check the voltage after taking it off the charger just to check that the battery is behaving like it should be. Not a big deal, but a good safety measure to do once in a while.

Its not as hard or as much of a PITA as it sounds once you get the hang of it. Just like everything else with vaping, just takes a little time to learn and then it becomes second nature. :)

That and Earl Grey when I'm in the mood for something stronger. Wonder if anyone makes a good e-liquid in either flavor?

My local b&m makes a really good earl grey, was my adv till I burned myself out on it

Yeah I agree watts should give you the same vape on any topper. The variables on toppers is wicking and airflow. If either one is wrong you get a good flooding or a good burnt taste. Neither is desirable. :toast:

Seems like it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Either take it out and use the multi-meter to test it or take it out and put it in the Zmax or LT. Either way, you have to take it out of the mech and use something else to see how much power you have left, right?

If the ones at Harbor Freight are good enough to do the job, at that price, then I'll be able to afford one in a few months. Until then, I'll just use one of the VV/VW mods to check the battery power. :thumb: Other than more nic, I am tapped out for at least 6 months, if not longer. I think the Zmax will be more than sufficient to test the mech battery, for the near future.

Does that sound ok to ya'll?

Another thought....

Last night I was playing with the LT for a while, just to see how it vaped with different juices. I have come to the conclusion that the juice you are vaping is just as important as the ohms of the coil in the atty. Here's why...

With 4 identical glassomizers, all with 2.2ohm heads, each one tasted better on a different voltage. I ended up with 1 at 3.8, 2 at 4.0 and 1 at 4.2 volts. It wasn't the coil ohms that made the difference, but the juice itself.

Before I started messing around with it, I thought that all 4 of them would be set at the same voltage, since they all used identical replacement heads with the same ohm rating.

Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say? I was surprised that they all didn't use the same voltage. I had expected them to.

Could only 'play' for a few minutes, haven't gotten the charger yet.:( I'll be so glad when it gets here!

Sounds good :thumb:

When the time comes, if you get the chance to check out any of the coupon flyers in weekend newspapers Harbor Freight often has coupons you could use to get a percentage off their regular price OR they have had in the past a coupon for a free multimeter (I"ve used the coupons in the past to PIF to those in needs here at ECF) . I'll keep an eye out for a free coupon for ya. :)

Yes, know what ya mean about the difference. The combination of the same ohms but with the different voltages changes the "wattage" and that's what makes the juice taste different in the different combinations. Different juices do taste different when there is a change:)

heh.. that's my husband's favorite store. When their sale things come in the mail, he's like a kid getting the Sears wishbook before xmas... or me, when the MicroCenter sale thing comes -- after 25 yrs of PC ownership, I still drool at the prospect of building my own computer, to my own specs. Still haven't been able to afford to do it, though.

But it wasn't the same juice. 4 of the same glassos, 4 of the same 2.2ohm heads, all juice was 60/40, 4mg nic, DIFFERENT flavors, all DIY, all made on the same date. The only thing different was the flavor of the juices and each one needed a different voltage to be it's best, IMO. I had expected them all to need the same voltage because of what they had in common, which was EVERYTHING, except flavor.

It was an experiment really and didn't turn out the way I had expected. Having them all on the same voltage setting, was NOT good. I tried it. For the juice to be it's best, it had to be set individually by flavor, not by ohms of the atty. Now do you see what I'm saying?

sounds like the right way to do it. I have a multimeter and even an Ω checker... But I've never been able to remember where I put things, and age has not changed that.... The SID and the ZMax are both right here and work just fine. :)

As you experiment, you will discover that not only different flavors, but different PG/VG ratios, and even the amount of NIC will change the ideal vape setting.
Back "in the day" (less than 10 years ago), people used to try to alter the juice constituents to create the ideal flavor, vapor and "texture" of their vape.
Then someone noticed that at a certain point in the life of the battery in the device, the juice was great, but to either side... Not so much.
Thus the Variable Revolution was born.

NOW people are debating and finding out that not only the level of power, but the actual consistency of that power affects the vape.
Thus the VAMO and Provari "war".
I think that personal taste will dictate the "ideal" power delivery system, so I don't see either overshadowing the other.

Leg cramps: tonic water works for me. I used to get really bad leg cramps almost every night. I drank gallons (seriously) of water and Gatorade, plus ate a couple of bananas a day. That didn't work, so my doctor prescribed something, I don't know what but it didn't work.

Then my doctor said: ya know, some people just go get some tonic water and it works for them.

I started drinking tonic water. Cramps went from almost nightly to just a couple of times per year.

In the US quinine is prescribed only as a treatment for malaria, and the dosage is much larger than what is needed to control leg cramps. The amount of quinine in tonic water is limited by the FDA. It's a quite small amount, although some people still have allergic reactions to it. It sure does work for me.

Yes, I do understand. You used the same ohms for all, but found that for different flavors you preferred then at different voltages. When you kept the same ohms for each flavored juice but changed the voltages you changed the wattage of each which changed the taste of each juice. Keeping the same voltage but changing the ohms would give you the same effect. You discovered for yourself tonight why many people prefer vv devices over mechanical devices if they are changing juices often during a day. It makes it easy for them to fine tune each different flavored juice to their own preference by easily changing the voltage. (which changes the wattage) Changing Pg/Vg ratio and nic level will change what a juice taste like to some small degree but changing those won't give you that WOW that taste great OR that taste horrible difference like changing voltage will. :)

You've learned something really important tonight about OHMS and VOLTAGE and WATTAGE and how they relate to our juice. :)

Right! :toast: Here's the thing...each one, although with the same ohms, had different volts, which means they each had different wattage too, right? Is that correct? They each had different wattage? If that's the case, then I don't understand why people say that VW is better than VV because you just set it once, at the watts you want and you get the same watts no matter what atty you put on it, no matter what juice is in it?

Since my 4 attys each had their own watt level that I liked, wouldn't I have to reset the watts when I change attys? Just like resetting the volts for each one?

I'm trying to make sense out of the statement that 'VW is better, with less fiddling'. (I've read this a few times on the forums) I just can't see it. With what I did last night, shows me that all juice is not going to taste their best at the same watts, any more than at the same volts.

Oh and all my juice is 60/40 w/4mg nic, I DIY. :)

To make it simple, I call BS! All juice will not be at it's best, at the same watt level. IMO. That's like saying "All Juice is Perfect at 8 Watts". Wrong. But that's what I've seen on the forums, they're saying the same watts for everything. How does that make sense?

I gotta go to bed, I'm beat. 'See' ya'll tomorrow, when maybe I can understand this.:?:

I dunno too much about different juices, since I mainly just vape the same one all the time, with only a few change-ups. But I'm with patches on the being confused about vv vs. vw. This iTaste will do either, but I don't see much point in using the vw, when using the vv somewhere between 3.6 and and 4.7 or maybe 4.8 suits me and the few variations I vape just fine.

However, I'm beginning to understand a little about why I prefer it set lower, usually about 3.6 when I first roll out of bed, when I'm using the ARO; it has much lower resistance, usually about 2.0, vs 2.5-2.8 of the T3S. I thought it was just because I use the ARO for my morning spice mix, when I can't take throat hit, and that might be part of it, but it seems that it's also BECAUSE of the lower resistance in the ARO, it doesn't need to be set so high to get a lot of taste/TH.

Haven't found any English Breakfast; got some of the Black Tea from High Desert Vapes, but it seems to be one that needs a lot of aging. The reviews on ECBlend's "tea your way" seem to indicate that their Earl Grey is excellent. I may have to give that one a try.

Andria

That and Earl Grey when I'm in the mood for something stronger. Wonder if anyone makes a good e-liquid in either flavor?

One of my two favorite liquids is Vaperite's Earl Grey Tea.

So not to go all off topic ( but this is the just sit around and bs thread, right?) I found another vaper who is into sub ohm and building his own coils and the whole 9 yards. Even Let me hit his mech and will come over and teach me how to build coils and every thing I have questions about! In a town of 1200 ppl!! And we have a great vape shop just 15 miles away (but they don't carry the stuff for rebuilds, wire and silicon wicks...yet). Have to admit I'm a little excited! Oh, and I'm into day 4 of no smoking! (took me two months to get here, and I had CRAVINGS today...but resisted!)

Good job Raths. Is it cravings for cigarettes or just missing them? If you are craving them real bad, you might want to up the o'l nic. If it just saddness at the loss of a friend (ciggies) that will pass. I've only tried 2 vape shops here but I have not been to impressed myself. The subs are real interesting and fun to read about but someone would have to slap me if my stuff tasted any better. heehee Good luck to ya.
