Yep, and McChord AFB.

In addition to wanting our defenders to have the best possible training, I've never understood the complaint issue. The bases have been there a LONG time. If you choose to buy property within earshot, you should expect to hear them....

Like buying a house at the end of an existing runway and griping about the jets...
Amen! My sister lives very close to Ellington Airfield, which used to be known as Ellington AFB. It's still used by the AF, & it's where they 747 piggy backing the Space Shuttles used to stop over, & where AF1 lands when potus comes to town. Houston Air Show takes place there every year since forever. It's amazing to me that people new to the area are not aware of it's location. It's literally about a mile away from her house. We can sit in the back yard & watch the Thunderbirds & Blue Angels swooping around, & all the aircraft from the wars doing the air battle performances. But go to the grocery store after & you'll hear someone missing a twang complain. Hilarious!

Yeah, years ago they wanted to put a helo base at our airport. Nope. Too much noise.
What's on one side of the airport? An interstate
What's on the other side? Woods. For miles.

We ran into that a lot when I was stationed in Virginia. NAS Oceana is right there in Virginia Beach (Norfolk area) the townspeople constantly complained about the jet noise... and didn't particularly treat the military members very well because of it. :( I couldn't wait to get out of that place...
We kick behinds for that kind of behavior here. Tar. Feathers. Rail.

It's funny, because most of Jacksonville was rather upset when they closed Cecil Field... that city lost a LOT of revenue when a large portion of the military left... Most people and places of business there loved the military. Maybe it's just a Southern thing? ;)

Phooey. Those who complain about "noise" haven't been trying to catch z's in the barracks with the flight line less than 200 yards away with F4's doing an "Elephant Walk" during a NATO Tac Eval.

Or 30 feet below the catapults on an aircraft carrier during flight ops... ;)

Been there done that... When I was younger I developed the ability to sleep even with a jackhammer outside... :)

Shoot when I was in college I used to study in the bowling alley - the library was deafening quiet and I was distracted by even the smallest of noise... :eek:o_O:w00t:

Growing up we lived in the flight pattern of Atlanta airport (one of the largest). Planes were constantly going over our house. You get used to it. I still remember as a teen on the telephone, about every minute one of us would say, wait for the plane to go over. Then another minute later, the other person would say the same. Amazing we ever had conversations. And my mother wondered why I was on the phone so long, lol.

I now live by JBLM, I am conditioned.

    Yep

Are you close to the winery/lavender farm by chance? I missed the art show, wine tasting this past weekend.

    Dang, another neighbor! :thumb:

    Yeah, easy to accustom.

Part of my growing up time (well, yeah, still working on it, Gary!) Dad was XO at Pt. Vicente - lighthouse in SoCal. Similar experience, @rosesense, when the fog would roll in. All talk ceased on each blast, saved repeating it!

If the one on Eatonville cut-off road, yes, about 5 miles. But didn't go, either.

Yepper, been dere, done dat. Same for SAC's ORI (Operational Readiness Inspection), B-52s!

Vapingwise, tried a couple of Kubukis and really like 'em! Only shortfall is da 3ml vs da Nautilus 5ml; but I can live wid dat.

A couple of my ol' Nauties were gettin' a lil' worn and began to gurgle/leak, so enter da Kabuki... Plus fer sum reason, I'm gettin' better flav (airflow?)
