It smiles at you?? I'm scared o' you!! :D You know, I looked at the same link you provided the other day, and I was undecided. I just made up my mind a few minutes ago. I had to go for the SVD!!

I guess an optimist sees the face on a Vamo as one that's smiling. Many or most Vamo users see a face on the Vamo, due to the configuration of the buttons. Maybe you knew that already. If so, disregard.

I may be walking into a trap--been a while since we were made to go sit in out respective corners though--backsies? No backing out?

"No backsies" means "you are not permitted any further response". It was, in various geographical areas, an important phrase in child-to-child verbal negotiations during the 1950s and early 1960s. For increased emphasis, we would say: "No backsies. The end." For greater emphasis, we would say: "No backsies. The end. Period."

For ultimate emphasis we would revert to full recitation of the original Neanderthal text, which was: "No backsies. The end. Period. I'm rubber, you're glue. Anything you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

That last part I never could get right. In the heat of negotiations I'd always forget who was rubber and who was glue, or who it was that things would stick to.

 Yeah, that's me! Somehow Mighty Hamster looks a bit more dignified though.

OK, ya made me 'look'...

Over $13K $aved (minus 'exploratory' fee$) and 58,000 c'sticks avoided... absolutely amazing!!!

Congratulations! Shocking isn't it? I guess I'm glad I didn't keep track when I was smoking or I'd have felt even worse. So grateful I found vaping, ECF and the porch! :)

Nice to see you back!! Been a long time! You must have died ten thousand deaths from the frustration of being offline.

Omg, thank you! I was only offline today though. I admit it, I've been two-timing you guys. :( One a year a bunch of us get together online to watch a race. We've been doing for about five years now and it's like a huge party. Think both porches put together and being online up to 17 hours a day on an emotional roller coaster living vicariously through the racers. I tried to say up here but you guys just kept right on talking, lol.

Okay, you made me update my spreadsheet - I had not checked it in a while. $8,714.25 so far and I have in my possession a 2 -3 year supply and except for miscellaneous flavors and stuff I will not need to buy anything for a while - so it is all down hill from here. I am going to have to give myself a special treat on my birthday...

Woohoo! Something really nice.I just bottled another 500ml of nice and stuffed it in the freezer. Someday I need to figure out how many years my supply will last. Happy early birthday and let us know what you bought! We're snoopy that way as you well know.

I agree, the Vamos have charisma up the wazoo. I'm tempted to bye one just so when I'm lonely I'll have a friendly face to look at. :)

I am going to try one more nickel coil tomorrow. Busardo has had good luck with it a 12 wrap at 2.5mm 28awg. Actually does what it is supposed to as you run out of juice you just lose vapor and don't burn your cotton because you can run it at 410 without hitting TP. Oh and that was only in the Tugboat.

Getting you a Busardo fangirl t-shirt for Christmas. Kidding, of course, I like him too. Didn't you swear off nickel right before my absence?

Good to see both of ya!!! So kewl you'll get to meet up soon!!

We'll post our mugshots from the adventure.

Unless he's reincarnated (wouldn't surprise me), Sloth wasn't even around for the 50's and I'm not sure anyone alive at the time remembers the 60s if they celebrated it properly. First time a kid said the rubber/glue thing to me I just stood there looking dumbfound and thinking, "How stupid is that?" I have developed a bit of a sense of humor since then believe it or not.

If they don't hire you, they are idiots. Who wouldn't hire a highly intelligent, sophisticated, dedicated sloth?

Fair warning sloth, we'll be up in your neck of the woods in a month. :D Tried to catch you earlier today when I saw you were in but then the internet went down for several hours. You didn't have anything to do with that did you?

You would have missed me anyway, I was just in for a minute while waiting for a meeting. Had my final interviews today, and I think they went well. I guess we'll find out soon enough, since they're making the final decisions over the next few weeks. What a long strange process they have here. If we tried to do this in industry, we'd be out of business before we actually hired anyone. It was funny, because we had an interim full-time instructor (me) interviewing with an interim Dean of Instruction and an interim campus president.

I wasn't around for the 50's, but I guess we were backward in Ohio, because we were still doing the whole "no backsies" thing long until the late 60's or so. Though, we always saved "you're rubber and I'm glue" as the ultimate retort for use only in response to the direst of insults.

Yikes! Glad you think it went well. You know we are all pulling for you to get the position. Go Sloth! Best of luck to you! :)

That made me laugh unreasonably loud for this hour of the evening. i do think I remember backsies now, it's sounding familiar. The kids down on the corner had quite the repertoire but we weren't allowed to say such things, supposedly.

Do you have a team or state you follow Flamingo , for the race and if so how did they go ?

Wolf, it was the Iditarod. The musher I was, and had been for years, rooting for gave a heart-wrenching interview along the trail saying it would probably be his last race. After that he saved one woman's ill dog by carrying it into the next checkpoint and later, on another stretch over Norton Sound, rescued another dog team that had been left out there after a SAR team rescued their critically hypodermic musher. They'd been caught in a ground storm. A SAR team was going out to rescue the team but "my musher" got them first, much to the teary relief of the hypodermic musher who recovered. Was a heck of a race if not more than a little traumatic for most of us.

Are the dogs ok :(

Oh yeah and the people i guess .

Yes, the ill dog is well and the stranded team came in strong and looking for "Dad," who had been released by then and was overjoyed to see them. The dogs nowadays have better wardrobes than I do for handling the cold. Some of the mushers wound up with frostbite though as there was an unreal temp drop atone point. One checkpoint briefly got down to -65.

Glad to see you and Legs are still going strong. See you tomorrow. :)

Edit

Was going to ask if the Iditarod was watchable on the internet , wouldn't think i've been on it for around 16 years.

Although recently here through some sort of red tape rubbish the usual avenue i watched me horse racing on went away so needed to search for alternatives.

You can buy access to a tracker. Each sled carries a GPS device, they also carry a SOS button that isn't very reliable) and you can watch them make their way down the trail, or off the trail if they get lost. Sometimes if somebody scratches you can watch their tracker go to the nearest airport and fly across the country.

Last thing I'll say about this is thank heavens for vaping! There were some tough times during the race where I would have chain smoked over a pack of cigarettes, such as watching someone sitting on the ice for over 10 hours and race officials doing nothing to check on the musher and team, and vaping was awesome. Last year wasn't nearly as stressful as this year and I now realize I never even thought about smoking. Getting pretty good at this. :D
