I know this is not on any topic, but wondered where, beside Tarheel Vapers we can post to try to get a vape Meet together for the Raleigh NC area. There are 3 of us so far on the Tarheel thread, but I'll bet most don't even know it's there. I just found it a few days ago and it's dead.

Any ideas where it would be ok to post about this? Thanks!

Just start a thread with an eye-catching title in general discussion. Bump it every so often. You can go ahead and hold the discussion there, or refer them to the Tarheel thread (wherever that is).

Thank you. I didn't know if I had to keep it in the 'social' threads or what. Tarheel Vapers is in the social groups, for NC. (people from NC are called Tarheels, for some reason. Not from here, so don't know the history.) :)

Thanks again!

You GO girl, ncpatches! congrats on your anniversary, and thanks for pursuing the NC get-together -- I see that Amiaji is another NC-person. Me, I messed up my username so much that it's not obvious I'm in NC. I NEED to find mod-help to fix that!

But the main thing is, you are 2 weeks into vaping-only and that is a lifetime, it's enough that you see how great it is :) I'm only a small couple of weeks ahead of you and I can testify, it gets better and happier every single day :)

Unfortunately, Amiaji is north of Charlotte and quite a ride, but said they might make a road trip if we can get something going. :)

It says you're in Garner, NC, that's enough. :)

I've made road trips before, I could probably make a trip up. Its gonna depend more on when it is than anything. I have a screwed up work schedule so it can be tough at times to make things work out.

Evaluating all the options, it looks like the cheaper in the long run factor might not happen unless I buy from Fastech, which means that I can't wait until a battery has failed before replacing. I like the KMax the best, because I really don't want to have to buy a thread protector for a Vamo. They don't have the KMax in stock, and I would also have to buy charger from them.

Maybe I will stay with twists--really don't want to order from China. I have been waiting for one item for almost two months now (not fasttech.)

Discount has them for about $70, only a few color combos in stock. And no slow boat :) A couple of batteries and a charger for RTD can be put together for about another $40? Since I only use 1300 Spinners, that about 4 of those...

Hey, it's Christmas, and you deserve it! :toast:

The lava fire is only about $60. My SID cost me $50
The lava fire is a mech and the SID is vv vw. I expect my batteries to last me about a year. 4 18650s cost me less than $40
5 18350s cost me about $60
Spent about $40 on DIY e-liquid.
So over the past 6 months $250
The average cigarette smoker pays anywhere from $120 to $250 a month for cigarettes.
MBV sells liquid that is very good for about $6 per $15 ml.

So... Even if you don't DIY your liquid, you "make up the difference" in no more than 2 months.

I see the k-max for $70 domestic, so even if you get that instead of a SID, you "make up the difference" in no more than 2 months. Just not in stock right now. The SID is at madvapes tho...

The. Buying from MBV with 3-4 day delivery, you can get a mont's supply of juice for less than $50...

"Cheaper than smoking" is doable. :)

Realistically even if you take things to a higher level.

REO + RM2 is right around $200 that is one months smoking budget for me (when I smoked).
Spool of Kanthal $7
Bag of cotton balls $1
Pair of 18650s $22
Charger $30 (estimate)
I DIY my juice So maybe on the high side a months supply is $15

Once you get past the initial investment in the device and topper your ongoing expenses are small.

Also when you get into the $200 range you are in Provari territory if you prefer a regulated device to the Mech REO.

EDIT: My personal philosophy at this point with the FDA of doom hanging over us is to buy quality. You want something that will hold up for a very long time should things get ugly in the future. Even if things only get ugly for a time and lawsuits be filled that does not mean our ability to get decent gear won't be shut down for possibly years.

Keep in touch on the Tarheel Vapers thread and let us know about your schedule. We're hoping for spring, maybe March? When the weather is nice. We'll try to make it a time when all are able to come. Me? I'm easy, I'm retired. :) Anytime works for me as long as it's not before noon. ;)

Hi Everyone - I haven't been around much this week. We've been ripping out the kitchen, hallway, and front foyer floor preparing for a new tile floor. Yikes! I'm too old to be lifting 50 pound bags of thinset. And now I know why they call wonder board - wonder board - I kept wondering why a 3 ft x 5 ft sheet of goods weighed so much.

Oh yea - this is the vaping thread so today I honored the Sabbath and didn't work and picked up my new toy and relaxed. Finally got one of the Russian 91% and set it up today.

10 wraps of 28g Kanthal for a vertical micro coil. It measured 1.5Ωs dry, but once set up it's now showing 1.7Ωs. Which is right nice for use on a Provari.

Obligatory pic of it glowing.

I tryed hemp a long time back when it 1st hit the scene and didn't like the 'imparted' burnt rope taste it gave my juice. So I trying the new 'uber' cleaning method this time. Overnight soak in Oxyclean, then multiple hours of boil, rinse, boil, rinse. I think It had about 6 hours of boiling the other day while working on the kitchen floor.

Anyways - twist up a small rope of the hemp and wind it around the coil.

Then fill up the chamber with some chopped up and pre-soaked (in PG/VG mix) hemp. The pre-soaking helps getting the right amount of hemp into the chamber as it's already pre-expanded with juice.

All in all - I'm quite pleased w/ the Russian and my 1st build. It was actually easier then setting up a Genny type RBA. I really like the adjustable air control to tweak to just the way I like the draw. And I think it looks good on the mini Provari. Merry Christmas to me.

Mike,

Luv dat coil glow! How's da vape? Bit size?

BTW, have ya tried any kiln XC-116 yet? If not, I can send ya foot of it fer ya to 'play' with. I got sum to try with a KFL+ clone and Pulse-G that should hopefully be here by next year. LMK if you're interested.

Iffy - the drill bit was a #51, .067 inches. Use the largest bit that snuggly fits in the air hole.

Also - BE SURE the negative lead is the 'long' lead. Looking back at the pictures I realized I was a big dummy. Even though I said to do that, I have the positive lead as the long lead. That's a mistake on my part. It puts the positive lead very close to the top deck which could lead to a dead (dangerous) short if the coil moves. Look at the second picture of my post and you'll see what I mean. I'll have to change it - but for tonight it's vaping so well and tasting so good, I'll do it tomorrow.

And no, I've not tried any of the Nextel stuff. If ya like, we can trade some Nextel for some hemp. You'll just have to boil and boil and boil it before use unless you like the taste of burnt rope.
