Borrowed my buddies rsst. First time messing around with a genny. Definitely a little out of my element but more simple to build than I had thought. Little out of my micro niche for this build but it's not bad. Still trying to get the hang of this genny tilt thing... Keep getting so many dry hits.

Haven't even really ran a full tank through this thing and my coil is gunned up. Is this normal for a genny?! Lol

My best working genny builds have fewer wraps and more coil spacing.

I think its the general consensus that microcoils are not easy nor recommended on a mesh wick. Try a normal coil on a solid wick that nearly fills the wick hole. The coil wraps should be tight enough that they touch the wick everywhere but loose enough that you can easily move each of them by gently plucking them with something like a mini screwdriver.

Once you build it properly, if it still gunks up then its just your juice. There isn't really any way around it, so try a different one.

Other folks can help you troubleshoot MUCH better than I can, but I will say that dry-hits should not be happening that often if everything is set up correctly. You shouldn't even need to tilt until the tank is less than 1/2 empty.
This is true.

My example, works great:

I really wonder if the screw you're using in the fill hole is allowing a little air into the tank. If it is, that could make a huge difference. I also notice that you have the wick as high as the center post. As I remember, that always seemed to help, at least a little.

Bought a Aga-t, as my fist genesis before I commit to a steam turbine or aqua, etc. I guess I got lucky or I'm just that good,;) my first try seems pretty dang good. 1.25 with 4 wraps of .25 kanthal. I wrapped the wick out of 500 mesh, made a hard fold a little less than an 1/8" then folded that in half and rolled it tight on itself, torched the heck out of it, Unwrapped it and rolled it again tighter and torched it again. it touches the tank but doesn't short. Wicks good tastes almost great! Took it on the road earlier and still works great, after all the horror stories if I can get it to work this good every time I'm set. I wrapped the coil holding the wick in my hand and then inserted it, hooked it up and spaced it evenly before I fired it , it was hot at top for a couple of bump fires like three tweaks and bingo. Knock on wood!!

Also got a Igo T to try builds in. I torched the cap, cause that's the way I like my titanium !!

I call this a micro-dragon Vee. Two 18/19 wraps of .30 on a .09 needle, Hits at .88. pretty nice.
I'm gonna play with the wicking, and drill out the airholes, this could have potential.
Peace, Puff :vapor:

All you need with RSST using SS is to make sure your mesh roll fills the wick hole completely and reached the very bottom of the tank. That mesh should have enough surface area to wick like a charm and the rest is entirely up to you. I've never had dry hit problem on mine.

Cotton builds are popular as well and RSST gives you plenty of room to experiment with virtually anything but a proper dual coil build.

Definitely not pure silver, not for $1.99 ;) I would doubt any silver content at that price to be honest, I'm guessing the silver just means color/finish not material. Either way not a good idea for rebuilding purposes, the wire we use is designed for use as a heating element, if you go using any random wire you run the chance of using a wire that will release dangerous gases when heated, have resistance levels that make it useless for rebuilding, wire that will break down quickly, react with the juice, or have off flavors.

Kanthal is cheap, you can get a big spool that will last a long time under 10 bucks, I don't understand why people keep trying to use random wire they find at the craft store ;)

My only reason for picking it up is I am completely out of kanthal =[ and my shop only sells 30g I want something thicker, and im tired of paying 2.99 for 3 feet...that's ridiculous

Any idea of a store that would have nichrome or kanthal like ace hardware, lowes, home depot?

None of the big box stores sell resistance wire. Don't vape that stuff from the hobby store!

You may luck out at Home Depot or Lowe's.... Buy a Life-Lime water heater element, and strip the wire from inside. Most of those elements are 20-26 gauge, but it HAS to be one of the ones that are long if bent straight. Strip out the wire from inside, then torch the snot out of it. I've been using 24 gauge from a 5000 watt Rheem element for months on my cloud chaser build.

You'll find a mess of thick wire, like this..
