If I missed this answer in previous posts, I apologize: How often do you find you need replace the teabag? How long does a cart generally last you?
Also, in a previous post you mentioned regular tea bags work, too. While this might be true, I made the mistake of starting out doing the original tea bag mod with regular tea bags. I thought it was good, but not stellar.
The material used for the pyramid tea bags is far superior.
Thanks,

I've been using this for about a month now and it's working great on the Xhaler, 510-PT's and now a 3.7v box mod. No leaking, rarely flooding (DIY juice though was thinned too much) and a long time between refills.
As for the burnt taste I did experience it some in the begining when these where first made, but hasn't since then unless I ran the cart too dry :). Cleaning is fast, easy and I don't wait for things to dry since I clean in vodka. I just wipe it off, blow out the cart some, press the PTB dry, refill and vape being carefull to keep the cart end low until any excess vodka is gone not thinning the juice more.

2 Problems 510 setup:
One cart on the Xhaler didn't want to keep the staw in so I forgot I used this without the straw vaping at 5V (didn't flood probably due to the volts). I changed back to 3.7v yesterday and cleaned the cart tonight and found out it was running fine without the straw. I did make a new one and put it in but it won't go very far down like the others did. No burnt taste though.
On the 3.7v mod when I took the cart off to add more juice (harder to get off than others are) I lost the PTB. Guess it got stuck to the atty and flung off somewhere, so I made another one.

Might mention also I couldn't find the flavor of PTB mentioned which I wanted to try the tea too, so I got a blueberry flavor-made tea, washed it good and let it dry before I made the fillers. I'm still going to try some other cart mods, but this one is so easy and works so good I haven't messed with the others yet. I've only used 3 carts with this and guess I'd better make some more tea so I can fill more carts with this.

Thanks for coming up with this kristin. So far it has been my first and only cart mod. I've heard some don't need to be refilled as often & hold more thus that is the only thing that can lead me to trying others later on.

I personally haven't tried it with regular teabag material, so that is just the opinion of a couple people who did. They haven't come back to say if they were still using it that way, so I don't know if it is a lasting mod that way. I just don't see how it could work as well as the PTB, though. I guess people can try it and if it doesn't work, get the PTB, because I KNOW that works! lol :D

Kristin:

Of the many mods I've tried in near a year, this one is still gracing my old Joye 510! Thank you for all you've done! :)

(I've been experimenting with cartomizers recently (D1, GreenCig, etc.) and although they're disposable (I've refilled/cleaned and used a couple for months!), I hope that something revolutionary and that works as well as your PTB Straw Mod is in store for them someday also.) :)

Thanks again. ;)

cleaned the cart tonight and found out it was running fine without the straw.
I had an issue with the straw as well, been using the PTB with this insertion suggestion and no straw.
Have you continued to use this insertion method with no straw?
Kristin- I am totally new to this, but if I'm getting good vape, no leakage and holding 13-15 drops of juice with your insertion (flower stem) method but no straw, what do you think? What risks am I taking by not using the straw?
I grasp the PTB at the center of the square and gather it around the tiny tweezers, then gently insert the PTB into the cart. If I get any resistance, I remove the tweezers, turn them over and use the blunt end to get the PTB safely in the cart. It still has all the folds like in your pic.
Let me know if I'm screwing something up here.

Hey Dean,

I think I mention somewhere that no straw may be better for certain liquids. If it works for you, then that's awesome!

I tried it without the straw and had wicking issues, if I remember correctly. But because liquids vary so much, no straw may be just the trick.

I sometimes snip the flower end a bit to fray it. I was having issues with one liquid not wicking as well, frayed the PTB a bit and it's working like a charm again. With aother liquid, no fray necessary. It's a pretty adaptable mod. :D

Dean, yes I'm still using one with no straw in the Xhaler. It hasn't had any problem at both 3.7v and 5v which is higher than a regular 510 battery or PT. I did fray the ends though on all of them so maybe that is why it never had any problems. The straw I added in after I cleaned it got kicked out because it didn't set in it right and made less room for liquid. Decided if it worked okay without it then it wasn't worth messing with. I do use tweezers to pull the PTB's back up when I do refills since it helps get in more drops.

Lots of things to like about this mod! No exact cuts to anything. No exact fitting. No removing anything to refill. Withholding judgement on leakage until I've used it longer. Did you use a standard 510 cart? I have megas and am wondering if I should use a bigger piece of tb?

OK, I always liked the pyramid tea bag material, but fussing with the folding & shredding and carmelizing was a pain. I was using the RSP Mod and having issues with finding the right plug. I kept coming back to the PTB material, but couldn't figure out how to use it as a plug - but I think I got it! I've been using it for 3 days now and I haven't encountered any issues, other than not to overfill it.

Basically, it's the straw with a PTB plug, but instead of folding and rolling and shredding, just using it to plug the cart. The straw holds it in place better, keeping it pressed against the atty, but I have used it without the straw, as well. So far, it wicks really well, uses approx 95% of the liquid before needing a refill, refills easily (without having to remove - something the other "plug" mods don't do) and washes well for reuse. I'd love for some others to try it out, tweek it, to see if it works as well for them - especially since it SHOULD work with just about any cart size. I think the straw could be made even shorter, with the same effect, to take up even less space, but it does help hold up the plug from being pushed back into the cart.

Below is a pictorial, which should show everything - but it's VERY easy. Please read the photo captions for additional information.

Straws are 5mm (1/4") diameter, both straws and tea were purchased at a Walmart Super Store.

P1040154.jpg

Empty tea bag.

P1040155.jpg

Cut straw to 10mm-15mm long and notch one end. Cut the PTB into 2 seperate pieces, trim off edges. Put one piece aside for another cart.

P1040156.jpg

Put straw all the way into the cart, notches towards the mouth end, notches facing the short sides of the cart.

P1040162.jpg

Take one piece of the PTB and center on a long, thin, pointed object. It would look like a flower upside down on the stem. If you don't have long tweezers, a tine of a meat fork or a small screwdriver works, too. Just be careful not to poke a hole when pushing it into the cart.

P1040163.jpg

Gently push PTB into the cart, until the tweezers hit the bottom of the cart.

P1040164.jpg

Trim off the excess, flush with the end of the cart.

P1040166.jpg

It may have open spaces like this.

P1040168.jpg

Spread the layers with your tweezers to fill the opening more evenly.

P1040169.jpg

Fill with your favorite liquid, 10-12 drops.

If you have a very thin liquid, you may want to use two pieces of PTB. If you have a very thick liquid, you may want to omit the straw.

Are megas wider or just longer? The straw is key if they are wider. If they are just longer, I have to trim a good bit off on the regular carts with one piece. There may be enough for the mega - just less to trim off. Give it a try first. Otherwise, I would say don't cut the PTB into two pieces. Leave it as one long piece, stuff the whole thing in using the same method and trim the excess.

I'm on day 3 of this, and I love it!! No more juice pooling at the mouth end, while the atty end is bone dry. No more squooshing filler down into pooled juice and then trying to fluff it back up.

I even made one for hubby and a friend at work. We all have Tornadoes, and we all love the mod!!!
Awesome! :thumb:
