That makes sense to me. If you break down the flavors by type, it looks like this:
3% creams
2% Bavarian Cream (TFA)
1% Sweet Cream (TFA)
3% caramels
1% Caramel Butter (WF)
1% Caramel Candy (FW)
1% Caramel v2 (CAP)
1.5% nuts
1% Hazelnut (FW)
0.5% Hazelnut (Hazel Grove) (FA)
0.25% other
0.25% Sweetener (TFA)
Caramel (in general) is a pretty dominant flavor. Having twice as much caramel as the nut flavors, it seems reasonable, that the nut presence gets overwhelmed. If I were looking for the hazelnut to stand out; I would reduce the caramels by 1/2 to 2/3, and/or bump the hazelnut.![]()
Testers are your best bet since most of us taste things differently.IDJoel, the more I vape this the more I like it. It is really hitting the butterscotch mark, but it could be a tad better. I have a question though. Do you think I should leave the 1.5% nut part in? Would something of this profile play that much of a role in what I am tasting? I know it might be difficult to answer that... I suppose a better question would be-- do you think adding butterscotch ripple will start causing some muting of flavors?
I guess I should probably make a couple testers with some minor adjustments.
You're most welcome; I hope it helps.I will try that, thanks for the tip. I like the way you broke it down; I never thought to do that for some reason. Thanks again!
I can't honestly say; as I don't know what your taste buds are, and aren't, sensitive to.IDJoel, the more I vape this the more I like it. 1.5% of a hazelnut combo is not a strong presence for me, but it would normally(?) be enough, for me to notice it is there. I think(???), as you have initially mixed it, I would be able to detect the difference if it was omitted... at least in a side-by-side comparison.
As for your muting concern; I just don't know. I have never tried mixing that many caramel/butterscotch ingredients together. Overall, your total flavoring percentage is not that high (7.75% so far). So, I don't think(?) it is a huge risk (maybe, omit the Sweetener, for the time being?). I do see a potential for too many "similar" flavors, to start stepping on one another's toes, and the recipe becoming a muddy/confusing blend. It may help... it may not.
I agree, that the best way to find out and know for sure; is to do several small testers of the variations, and compare them (side by side) to the original version. Hopefully, you have enough of the first batch, to save a bit, for comparison. (Do allow some leeway, in your evaluation, for the different steep times. Or, mix a second batch of the original version, for a closer "apples to apples" comparison.)
I am sorry... I wish I could be less wishy-washy for you. My taste buds are just so different (aka. "abused"), than most other mixers, that I am reticent to say what someone else may taste.
Let us know what you do. And, what you discover. If nothing else; I think it will be a good learning experience.
Here's to your success!![]()
Don't ever hesitate to work something out here and bounce things around on a few folks. You never know.Oh no, I should apologize for the wishy washy question. When I went back and read it I almost deleted it, but I kind of frown on that. I figured I'd only look foolish for a little bit..lol
What I find odd is that hazelnut FW can add some creaminess to a vape, at least when I did testers on it. I think for that reason I might still keep it in, there might be some layer in there some where.
When I first started DIYing I tried to recreate a juice I use to purchase. It's called Grumpy Old Basdart. Incorrect spelling due to filters. It's a good strong butterscotch and caramel flavor. It was so bad that I gave up after one try.
But this mix I've done has me wanting to try tweak it and see if I can get closer to the flavor profile. I think I am going to try taking the hazel grove out, and adding some butterscotch ripple. I might up the Bavarian Creme a percentage to get a little more creaminess like the original has.
I also realized today that this has also only steeped 11 days. I don't know why I thought it was longer... Perhaps I should wait a week or two to see how it develops further.
I appreciate everyone who's taken the time to read this post and wonder, "couldn't he have thought this out on his own?"![]()
Yes,indeed. That can happen also.Sometimes it's only when you try to explain something to someone else that you figure out exactly what you mean.
