It can be a bugger to find the end sometimes.
It IS a bugger. I just started on my second ball which was easier to start. Or I got lucky and found "the spot" right off. I'm slowly getting my atty's switched to Tidi as old wicks die out. I managed to get 5 atty's wicked from one ball (2mm to 3.5mm ID's).

I use Ebelin Viskose balls that a good friend and member here who was in Germany sent me a few tears back. Sadly he has passed away.

I think I will be good at unrolling them . When cotton first became a thing , cotton balls from a local store was all there really was for a time. I used cvs sterile cotton balls for a long while before rayon and Japanese came about.

Interesting... How does it hold up to heat compared to Rayon? I like Rayon because it can take some heat and not burn.

    Sitting down, facing forward.
Going back to the early parts of this thread, viscose, in the US anyway apparently, refers to a form of rayon that has been processed a little further to align the fibers and make them more continuous and linear. Basically one more step along the path to making rayon thread for fabrics.

I tried "real" viscose early on and it is more like angel hair in consistency. That, oddly enough, makes it much harder to work with. Getting a point on it to thread it through a coil is rather difficult and it's much less forgiving in terms of density in the coil. I still have almost all of the four ounces I ordered way back when. I will admit that back then I was making tiny coils for cig-a-likes, wound on a 16 gauge needle, and that may have been a factor. Maybe I'll break it out and try it through a real coil, 3mm, made with 26 gauge instead of 32 gauge.

So I searched some more for a better price or smaller amount of Tidi Rayon Balls. Not sure if the 2000 medium balls is a better deal than 1000 large or not.

Tidi Large Rayon Balls 1000 count bag
    $14.86+$9.99=$24.85 + tax
    TIDI RAYON BALLS Rayon Balls, Large, Non-Sterile, 1000/bg, 2 bg/cs (21 cs/plt)

Tidi Medium Rayon Balls 2000 count bag
$18.63+$0.99=$19.62 + tax (shipping says Fedex - Freight Charge $0.99)
    Rayon Balls, Non Sterile, Medium

Tidi Large Rayon Balls 1000 count bag x 2 = 2000 count case
    $27.99+$12.00=$39.99
    TIDI Products - 969162 - TIDI Rayon Ball Rayon Large 1,000ea x 2bg 2,000 per Case

    Still too much for me.

Haha. So, we're finally listening. What would you now like to recommend so that in 5 years we can look back at your prescience?
I'm afraid there's nothing new I can recommend. I haven't changed a dang thing in three or four years now. I got the mod I'm puffing on right now in July of 2015 and the atty that's on it in early 2016, I think. I'm totally set in my ways.

I haven’t been active in this thread in a couple years! Good to be back! Still using my 10 dollar box of Rayon, the Graham Cellucotton Rayon from Sally’s beauty supply! Purchased in 2015 I think!

Is the German stuff mentioned in above posts worth looking into? Meaning is it better than Sally’s? I can attest first hand and I know this community doesn’t need convincing however that said the Sally’s rayon has outperformed even the best organic cottons... Japanese as well as Egyptian Cotton not as good in my experience than rayon!
