So rolling a wick has a name now.... Lol

Yeah I do that especially reusing Rayon scraps. Or dealing with pieces that need to be evened out. I actually posted a video where I did that 6 months before his, not thinking it was anything special, Lol. And 5 before the other.. just didn't give it a name like chimney I guess... Just sayin' ;)

I likened it to a rolled herbal cigarette instead of a pastry roll. And by looking at him you think he wouldn't have missed the resemblance. Lol

My videos are just no where near the studio he has. But it works well with straight Rayon.

I do like to spread it out and roll it up. It gives a more even density many times.

Jeremy,

To even give that a name is silly. Spread it apart then roll it back together. That only reminds me of "Wax on Wax off" ;)

I always roll my rayon to get the density and/or diameter I want. Maybe I should call it the St. George Roll.

I have done some twisting of the wick in a few videos. I always avoided going too tight because I like the fluffyness to hold juice and give it room. I don't want the fibers to be blocked or pinched off. The juice mainly flows on the outside of the fiber I believe

But you may have luck with it..the fiber should eventually work its freeways open again outside the coil I think.

Anybody twist the rayon into a "solid" wick? Not solid solid, but sturdy on it's own?

John,

I will catch He!! for this but I am used to it.

YES i do. I take the standard wick as it comes from the CC Box and roll it with the palm of my hands until it is down to the size of the coil ID I use which is 4 to 4.5 mm insert and go. That puppy will hold so much juice it is hard to believe.

I know that can't work, your crazy, that is stupid... etc. But is is my Atty, my wick, my coil... etc and I like it. :pervy:

Yeah man you can do it however you want. 4-4.5 mm wow massive buddy. I bet it holds a ton.. If it works for you its good.

Everyone will have certain techniques that work best for them. Mine are meant to be examples.

Well I am one of those guys that believe sizes matters not that I would know from personal experience except when it comes to wicks. :)

I tried wetting, rolling and then squeezing the water out to get most of the air out so it won't shrink. A chunk right out of the box will almost fit in a 2.5mm coil. It gets pretty solid. It does work, but doesn't seem to work great.

FWIW I gave this a shot when I wicked, and I gotta say it's really delivering the goods:

Now, I'm not a huge Rip Trippers fan, and I might get a good thrashing for posting his vid, but the technique is sound IMHO. Anyone else try this?

I've been rolling my wicks for a really long time now - never knew there was a name for it!
I flatten out my Sally's into a nice even sheet, then roll it. I dunno why it works better for me, it just does. :thumb:

For it to work best you would need to use the right amount of material for the coil size to start with.. For a 2.5mm coil that will be about a half strip or slightly less of sallys I believe.

I personally like to create the density while pulling and stretching through the coil till I get a decent squeak. It works for me, but you may find another option that works better for you.

I twist it to feed it through the coil, but I untwist once it's in to get it tighter in the coil. Seems to work better when it's fluffy.

Thanks guys, looks like I'm not the only one :D. I actually used that tek to get the wick even and sturdy as I could, then trimmed severely before wetting the wick and fluffing from there. My juice right now is 35/65, so the ends don't go all the way to the bottom of the juice channels, right about half way in fact. Funny thing is, that was a suggested video on my youtube subscription, where about all I watch is reviews by Vaping with Vic.

OK so I pulled my wick...

went to fill my aqua and popped the coil. To make matters worse, I'm out of kanthal, except for a 3 inch piece of 26 gauge. I wound up using that and wrapped a .8 ohm coil with it. Not much on legs to work with, but I managed to get it mounted and wicked, and it's firing like a dream at 20w :D. So in other words, I'm back to square 1 as far as the 100ml club. I WILL MAKE IT THIS TIME!!!

You order some wire I hope?

We will still have plenty of action here in this thread I'm sure ;)

On Topic.

I have about 15ml through my tank currently on my TC|NET|SS|Rayon longevity test. Still vaping like a champ.

*edit*
It is not vaping like a champ any more, it's just not. Looks like it's going to be about 18ml before it gets too funky to vape. I had high hopes but TC doesn't seem to help longevity of this particular NET (it's quite a gunker). I will take pictures before rewicking.

Luckily it cleared up, I let the tank get too low and it got funky...you can't do this with NET's.

I might keep trying the wet method (but I doubt it lol). I was trying to go the extreme to see what happens at that end of the density spectrum. It does actually wick. It would likely work better in a dripper and it is dense enough to avoid shrink.

Many more updates done to op's last night and today... I have till 8pm I think.

So is it everything you guys hoped for?

It's awesome! You nailed it brother, I know that took some time and it's much appreciated. This line is especially useful and well put:

Using Rayon Wick

- Use more in the coil than you even think is possible to be able to work.

- Use less in The tails than you even think is possible to be able to work.
