I am sorry you had a bad experience with it, I have really enjoyed mine

My buddy didn't have any issue with his either and decided to keep it, which is why I ordered one for myself. I probably got a Friday afternoon made one. ;)

The Vaping Bogan has a grub screw stripped out as well on his review version.

So I had my first attempt at using rayon and I didn't encounter any issue wicking my atty, but... I think there can be a thing as TOO MUCH flavor. I was pleasantly surprised for the first half of my first tank but it looks like it reveals a character in my favorite juices that I'm not sure I like all that much. It's a little bit hard to describe, the throat hit seems increased and the first taste is great, but the after-taste, the one that lingers, is slightly unpleasant. I wonder if there's any general tricks on adjusting recipes for rayon...? I'm having the same experience with both commercial juices such as the Halo line and DIY brews - I tend to only vape things that are at least at 50% VG. I haven't tried NETs yet.
Glad to hear you are checking out rayon! It's the beez kneez;)
Like 54 recommended for the commercial juice, I've diluted said juice with up to 100% vg. So if I had 10 ml I add 10 ml of vg. Never a dry hit from it. It just calms down the flavor. If you did get dry hits just add a few percent of water, or pga that will thin it again. This is another feature of a well wicked rayon coil vs cotton.
As far as diy, you could simply cut your ingredients percent, that would be trial and error as they are all different. Especially if you have been using high percentage to get the flavor from cotton. My:2c::thumbs:

Bottom line is that if your rayon has taste then its wicked wrong, either too tight or too loose. The more pronounced the taste the more wrong its wicked. My subtanks and TFV4s don't have any rayon taste, if there is a slight taste then it goes away after a few hits.
I vape 60vg/40pg DIY juice and have had NO wicking issues, leaking or dryhits in the year+ I've been using rayon.

Rayon did the same to me when I first started. It made the flavor stronger amd come through more. There were a few vendor juices I did not like anymore ehen switching to rayon, because a flavor came through that I did not notice before and I did not like it.
It does not take much for me to taste a flavor, I mix my hazelnut at a little over 1%. I used to mix it at a little over 2% until I started using rayon, but I had to lower it because the flavor came through so strong and all I could taste was sweet. (I never knew how to explain how little I needed to taste my vapes until someone told me I was a super taster. ) Rayon allows me to use less flavoring with my hazelnut than I was already using. :)
I forgot to add my point! Lol Try diluting the eliquid to back the flavor off a little.

I don't think he's talking about flavor from the rayon itself... more that the flavor of the juice is coming through too strongly now that he's switched to rayon.

Thanks mate, I'll try to bump my VG ratio to 65% or so. Anything higher than that and I will probably start having dry-hit issues.
I use 70VG and 80V in my stm and fbc (evod style tank)tanks. Actually in everything I vape with I use high VG percentage :)

I find that statement a bit ironic of too much flavor from juice. I always thought that vaping was a mission of finding attys that perform along with good juice. Getting too much flavor would mean to me that your doing something right. ;)

LOL! Not necessarily... mix your favorite DIY juice at 50% flavoring/50% nic/vg and give it a shot... I can almost promise that you'll quickly understand that there is such a thing as "too much flavor"! :D

Yes, I don't think it's the rayon I'm tasting, as other surmised it's just that the juice is coming through differently. Pretty interesting comment on wicking too tight/too loose though, I admit I pretty much used the density I was used to with cotton and called it a day. In general would you say it should tighter...?

So I see a lot of recommendations to thin the tails.

In the Aromamizer I never bothered thinning and never had any problems, and now with the Boreas the coils have gone from vertical to horizontal, but wicking is the same and it's still working beautifully without leaks or dry hits.

What is the benefit to thinning?

Also, here is a build pic in the Boreas stuffed with rayon.

That back coil I actually moved the coil and wick around so it wouldn't give a burnt taste from that loose wrap being unwicked, but didn't bother with another pic.

Yes. It should absolutely be tighter than you would wick with cotton. If wicked too loosely you might be fine for a day or two, but very soon you'll start to get what appears to be dry hits. What is happening there is that the wick has pulled away from the coil (on the inside of the coil) because the rayon will "shrink". The dry hit won't really be a dry hit in the normal sense of the word... it'll be more like a dry coil hit because the wick isn't making firm contact with the coil.

Rayon intensifies all components of vapor and increases saturation at the coil.

This is considered a benefit because flavoring and Nicotine can be reduced by 20-30% and get the same effect as before.

If your buying store bought they are much over flavored for rayon. Cut the juice by 25% with pg or vg. This will reduce flavoring and nicotine concentration.

I have only ever used 90-100% vg

If your still getting an after taste of rayon after a day you actually put a little too much in the coil.

Of course it depends if you were an expert cotton wicker, or if you typically over packed cotton, and how tight you did your cotton wick... In the beginning, users coming from cotton, the problem was under stuffing rayon. We've made it very clear that it needs more and some initially do pack it over tight at times. There's a fine balance, but if you don't have a problem with a wick it's probably OK.

It can be done without thinning if the wicks are very short or not longer than the edge of your deck... Anything longer or where you bend the whole wick you should make a relief cut or thin it at the bend.

The benefit is faster wicking and less ebb and flow in the wick.. Also more efficient vaporization which leads to longer wick and coil life. Less gunking and less refiring of the juice. Typically increased wattage capability due to increased juice flow.

It all depends on all the factors of your vaping. With that they are so short you may not need to.. The story is in the longevity and the coloring of the wick over time. If you want to improve the above factors thin. If not needed for your vaping, then do as you wish.

I don't thin the tails as per say but make a fan with a utility knife blade under the juiced wick then flattening with a dental pick. Cut the rogue hairs, corners of the fan and trim to size so there is nothing wider than the edge of the base to hinder the orings. If I do thin I cut from under the wick, not the top. Blow onto the dry wick making a kinda flower then trim off some wicking from the bottom of the "flower".
There is really nothing else I can say that hasn't been covered by Jeremy:thumb:

So the revelation came just now in the form of a commercial NET brew from NET.com. This is just right! Perfect I should say. Proof that indeed my other juices are "made for cotton", as it were.

This is the closest I will ever get to tasting real good tobacco again, minus the health risk. Thank you so much for introducing rayon, it's a gift from the gods of vapor.

No there is definitely too much flavor. Almost all the FA-Q, Unstoppable, and Lindbergh juices I have which are all max VG I have to dilute when using rayon. Some of them are okay when using cotton.

JeremyR, in a previous post you mentioned something about blowing into the tank via the drip tip, in regards to getting rid of any rayon taste, can you elaborate? Not sure reverse blow back is a good universal idea on some tanks, like a opposite design like a Cubis tank. On others some gurgling can be resolved by blowing into the tank while its held upside down over your head. All depends on the tank design, some tanks will flood, others will spray juice out the airflow vents. It's something I'd like to avoid for a lot of reasons, some I've listed.

But even with all that said, how would any reverse blowing into the tank effect any rayon taste at all? My first rayon box is due today. Thanks!

Jeremy's suggestion is valid for every atomizer I've used so far. In practice, by firing and blowing into the atomizer you are doing the same thing as vaping it until the rayon flavor clears. Only you aren't pulling the vapor in, you're blowing it out... so you don't have to taste it. I've done this for the past year or so because I tend to overstuff my coils. It has worked with genny tanks, every RDA I have, Orchid tanks, and the Silver Play V2. I've only had juice spray out of the airflow holes once... and that one ended up leaking anyway because I didn't block the juice channels well enough.

Hope that helps explain things a little.
