I am a recent convert to rayon and I am tickled I started using it. You issued a challenge to folks to give rayon a try.......there is a entire sector of Vapers like me who rebuild small coil heads or rebuildable cartos who still find silica and cotton easier to deal with. This thread is wonderful with all the information but it is intimidating for those of use who vape higher ohms and watts and maybe like me they find rayon difficult to manage in small coils.

It would be nice to see some examples of simple small coil head rebuilds and tips and tricks to using it.

If you go back to rayon, part one, first or second one page there's an evod rebuild I posted.

The first coil rayon went to was a 32g 1/16 coil. And I used only 32g the first year of the Rayon thread.

To help with flimsy coils twisting the Rayon to bring it together tight really helps cause then you just go till it's touching and release the twist. This doesn't mangle flimsy little coils.

The nice thing with flimsies is you can easily readjust the wraps after its wicked. Also since the power and juice demand is so much lower, the density isn't as much of a factor and the workable range is extended.

Here is a 1.35Ω approx. coil using 29g Kanthal, on a 2.0mm mandrel. This is on a Chalice 3, which is I guess a little bigger than what you are talking about, but pretty small to me.

Welcome to the fam, brother :)

@JeremyR your Arabic is good my friend...just loaded it up, it is totally different than anything I've ever vaped. I'm digging it.

Great to hear... 3.3-3.5% for me, usually needs a week or two with fresh flavoring. Then the deep spice and th are strong.. Maybe 4% if your currently vaping heavy flavors. I haven't been able to put it down for going on 2 years believe it or not. The th is what keeps it in the tank.. I'm trying to start mixing some other hangsens I have here again.. Lol.

The Stumpy and Goblin Mini V2 arrived today! Still waiting on the Mini Volt and Hannya.

I put a 9/8 wrap of 26g for 1 ohm on the Goblin and user the blocker to close off the other side. Wicking it very similar to the Silverplay. I think there possibly is a little too much tail in the channels as I can get it to dry hit at 20W with 70VG juice. Time to hit YouTube for a few quick videos on the Goblin Mini V2. It is vaping great other than the wicking, I just have to wait and let the bubbles rise till I hit it again.

The Stumpy!
I paid a little to much for what I believe is a FT Stumpy clone from the B&M the Goblin came from. It is alright as I didn't want to wait 3 weeks to get one from China. The B&M threw in a pair of 2x26/36 fused Claptons for free in the order, so I put one of those in the Stumpy on one side. The ID of the Clapton is 3.5mm and I had to trim some of the wick away to even get it to tuck in and go under the coil.

Juiced it up with some 12 Monkeys O-Rangz and proceeded to vape the Stumpy at 55W on the Cuboid. I only had one side open and the flavor from it is excellent! I opened up both sides for air flow and I do like that much more. I didn't put the 2nd Clapton in, as I know it would be way too hot for sure. :D

I don't have a lot of drippers so do we trim the Rayon with them too, keeping the tails like an RTA deck would be with ~50% cut off at the edge of the coil?

@Rayonati Sloth How do you set your airflow with the centered coil between the posts? I assume you come in angled from the post sides?

Cheers!

Yeah, I mount the coil at an angle as well - keeping the legs as short as possible will do this naturally. That way when I line my airholes up they point directly at the coil through two of the holes and the post through one of the holes (if I'm running wide open) :)

If I get a chance this afternoon I will setup a Sophia and see if I can figure out the amount of wick and tails.

Match the coil to the size of the slots, pull it through and cut it off flush at the ceramic. You probably wont need any more than that... If you do just make it very short and angled like I did on the oddysseus ceramic which is very similar.. Look at the tails second to last pic - Here

But I don't think you'll need more wick than cutting it flush, unless you need that little tail to keep the wick down.

wait or do you have v2, v1 is ceramic.

Here's a video from fellow rayon user and ecf member Qorax.

Sophia v2 with rayon

If you can just twist the Rayon a little Tighter at installation you can probably get it through without holding the coil. And if you went a little less tight than he did it may be enough..

has anyone looked at the medical bandages.. i see all over europe it seems more clearly labeled making it easier on the shopper looking for cellulose

here in the states,, it appears one might be able to use these pads cut to fit and 'delayered' Amazon.com: McKesson Performance Abd Pad Sterile 5"X9" - Box of 20 - Model 42502000: Industrial & Scientific

this one appears more to be european:
Henry Schein Corporate Brand

I have snagged some rayon tipped swabs from the hospital and they vape just fine. Just a PITA to unwrap. To me Sally's is the best bet for stateside folks to dive in relatively cheap.

Another convert reports in.

Finally got my first rayon last friday from ebay.
Earlier i have thought about trying out rayon but I just thought it cant be that much better than japanese.

My first days did not go that well with rayon. I rolled and packed it too tight in the coil. I did this cause I thought it has to be real tight. I was wrong.

Put the first rayon wick last night in my Aromamizer V1 with vertical claptons.
I put it much looser so it would go in in easier and damn that vape was good.

Then I rewicked my supreme the same way, much looser and it wicks just perfect now :)

If the wicking stays the same as it is now, I have to order a big box of rayon for future.
Not sure from where to order here in Finland, maybe Sally´s from amazon...

So if you are new to rayon, try with different amounts and I am sure you´ll get the perfect moist vape

Thanks for checking in, great to meet you! Finland, awesome! Your the first rayon user I've heard of from Finland. How's the vaping scene there?

It is tighter than cotton, it's important for it to stay in contact with the coil after the first day. If it's not tight enough it will reduce during the first few ml and then the wick would be loose causing a dry coil hit. So we err to the side of tighter to start.

Not super tight but good and snug. Just check for wick contact anytime you have a problem, and just to make sure it's in full contact after the first day or so. Pushing on the wick at the edge of the coil is the best way to check and also learn the density by trial and error. You want just enough to keep full contact after two days.

Not quite sure yet. The ranger pennies though will infiltrate the postal service and soon find out. Or, I'll have it figured out when I get to buying the ~ $30 - $40 Dripbox. It's usually around $5 - $7 for shipping just via regular post, nothing fancy and here in CONUS, to WV.

I´m sure there are lots of other rayon users here besides me. I actually ordered 5 meters of rayon from an ebay seller located in Finland as it was the closest and probably fastest shipping.

Vaping scene is doing very well for now mut not so much after the EU regulations I guess.
Our country always wants to obey the EU laws and even make them more strict.
Thats why they demand there will only be unflavoured and tobacco flavoured liquid available.

They can´t ban baking flavours and such so does not concern that much advanced or older users.
They wont have the resources to check every package from China in the customs so I think we can still order new devices.

Only problem will be the nicotine if there is gonna be a massive tax. Well we all know the law is there to make money so...

Thanks for the advice. Wick to wire contact is important for sure :)

It´s been a day with these wicks and still doing fine. I´m sure I can get temp control to weork much better now too.

I build all of my coils with rayon :) my favorite tank is my fbc tank:

237cbec3fd3fc98d53df85f1c6138b6c.jpg

I have been running this wick and coil for a few weeks now. I wish my camera was clearer.
When wicking my little fbc coils I make sure the rayon is nice and snug (not too tight and not loose) it makes a squeak like noise and I can feel it when pulling the rayon through. Then I trim my tails the same length as I did when wicking with the silica, my tails come out to the edge of the coil base, and then I fluff them a little. They seem to last me forever! Lol
