I agree to each their own. But i find with contact coils they are more finicky due to possible shorts. With spaced coils you dont have that problem.
:)
I'm a Kanthal wire on a mechanical squonker kind of neanderthal.

But rayon wick is still the best wick! :D

Summertime I'm vaping one of my cheapie modded mech squonkers (modmaker 510, hard copper contacts, 20700 battery, and I've finally chased down a low cost 8ml silicone bottle that fits perfectly, is leak free after a dab of food grade rtv on the silly air vent ring) .

Topper is an Ammit MTL RDA (stellar restricted lung vapor with the AFC fully open), a 0.39 ohm twisted 26 gauge kanthal coil, rayon wick.

Kicking back on a lounge at camp, looking at the lake and listening to some mellow tunes.

Life is good [emoji106]

I find it quite easy to overwick rayon, but if I can overstuff stuff, I do.

I cheered myself up with a bunch of chores. Like handwashing the dishes, which I still love. Not so much pots and pans, but dishes are quite relaxing.

I now feel were I pregnant, with all my current knowledge and experience, that kid would turn out to be the first female president,

That's the thing though, with freaking like, stupid detox everything can change in the blink of an eye. I have decided that to just accept that things will be weird for... a while and to not stress is just the best plan.

NOTHING I can do about it now... If I ovewick I know it my coil life goes way down and the wick is usually split inside the coil. I'm getting better at it but not THAT better at it. Kinda,

Anna

Ok, I'm in need of more wick. Is this the stuff I want?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PBGJT5A#Ask

Yup, 100% rayon.

Wow. I'm sold. First attempt. I'm usually an over stuffer, but man this stuff shrinks.
Second attempt... Took the whole 12mm and massaged it to something resembling cotton bacon. Shoved it in a 2.5mm coil, thinned the tails, burnt of the skin oils, and wow. Unbelievable flavor. Nic hit for days, and I can already tell, if I got enough in there, lol, it'll last too....
The cosnistancy of the vapor is finer too. Much better contact from juice to coil.

You used the whole rope width for your coil?

Yep... Might have to double it up for my big coils.

I usually split the rope in half for a 3mm ID coil. Just saying. As with everything vape related, YMMV.

That was my first attempt. I've been using cotton bacon v2, and tried the prime, as well as the Japanese pads...

With a little over half the rope, it sagged as soon as I primed it. I did stretch it a bit too though, to line the fibers up more.

Try rolling it, gently, between your open palms then "stroke" it gently to align things. Too much rayon is as bad as too little. Dead giveaway for too little is lots of popping and spitting.
I knew it was too little before I even fired it. I actually did almost exactly as you suggested. The 12mm rope turned out almost exactly like bacon v2, by look, but about 25-30% smaller. It took a little more material as v2, but only slightly. And there was no coil deformation, and some wigglability(so?) But no movement per se

I find, for a pair of 3mm ID coils, if I cut a 6" length from the 40' box of cellucotton, and then peel off any tufts and strands that don't reach the full length, what's left is about right. I roll one end tightly between two fingers and test-fit it. If I can fit it through with some twisting then that's good, otherwise I peel off a bit more. Then I snip the 6" length in half and thread the coils in opposing directions using a pulling and twisting motion. Once they're roughly centered I switch to a straight pulling motion and listen for the characteristic squeak. I pull it back and forth a bit to ensure it's not too tight on either side. Then I snip off the excess to within about 1" of the coil on both sides, then gently rake it to remove any disconnected strands. Then I do a final cut to length and tuck the bottom halves into the juice channels. The top halves I snip short against the coil, and the performance is excellent.

Exactly what I do as well.

I guess your running big coils.....I run 2.38mm and split the rope , so I get 2 sections. But in that pic it doesnt look like to much and if your getting great flavor, you nailed it.......i got to a point where i cant use cotton anymore, well at least ... sheet cotton as I never tried any of the fancy bacon stuff...I just got to use to the flavors of my juice with rayon and it seems like the TH is better

Yeah, small coils are 2.5mm for me, 3.5+mm can fill a 22mm rda nicely though.

I may have overstuffed it a bit, but the suckback on my squonk doesn't seem to be enough with the tails as thin as they are too. I may have to go longer, or bigger coil/wick to make up for the extra juice

ETA: the bacon is very similar to rayon, v2 is probably 15-20% cotton, and prime feels like a blend with a more natural, longer fiber, maybe a higher grade cotton, maybe even a little silk.

I think silk was tried before, but forgot what ever came of it....I wonder what the next material will be? I have seen and tried so many, but rayon has been my fav....I have tried SS mesh (genesis attys), porous ceramic, ceramic rope, silica, SS cable, ekowool , hemp, cotton, XC ready wick, no wick and tensil. .. I'm sure there were a couple others, but lost track tbh......

You guys do recognize that the word “...” is considered by many to be an ethnic slur, right?

... - Wikipedia
Didnt actually know that...its too hard to keep up with these things now a days, I just write it like that because it's faster to type...
