Alright, question for the snobs. I’ve been using this stuff for quite a while now. It does last longer than cotton and seems to be much more forgiving dryhit-wise, but… it’s super stringy, fragile and loose and seems to have these small plucks (like tiny balls) in it. Thinning out the tails is an absolute no-go, because if even the tip of the tweezers catches a strand, half the tail is already gone. I need to use tweezers to pull the wick through the coil (and diligently!) otherwise I’ll just end up with 2 pieces of wick. Which type of rayon is this? I’m not from the US and got it from someone once.

That stuff looks terrible. This is what Graham Cellucotton 100% Rayon looks like.

Thanks Rossum. I ordered 969162. Curious to see how this differs from my Graham.
Cheers mate!

I found my order confirmation dated July 1, 2014:

Your Order Information
1 x TIDI Rayon Balls - Large - Non-Sterile - Bag of 1,000 Rayon Balls = $15.38
SubTotal: $15.38
Discounts (Coupon): $0.00
Tax: $1.08
Shipping: $9.99
Handling: $0.00
Grand Total: $26.45

Unfortunately, it doesn't give a SKU or part number. But a cursory search for "tidi rayon balls" makes me think that 969162 is indeed what I got.

Is that from a tampon? Some tampons use a cotton/rayon mix and you pic appears to have cotton in it.

I've just ordered some Grahams rayon which isn't available in abundance here in the UK. Seems it's mostly sold by the metre. Doing some research I found a list of tampons using rayon as their core. I do not vouch for the accuracy of the article and it is now 2 years old. It might be something some folks wish to explore though, and the subject of tampons has been discussed in the past. I'll list them and provide the link.

Lil-lets, Boots Liberelle, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Superdrug.

Link...HuffPost is now part of Oath

There's also some info on safety re materials in tampons which is not the reason I'm posting the link.

Most definitely not.

The roll looks like this and is like it’s layered. To get anything useful I need to take it apart and, indeed, sort out bends and stuff. But mostly leaves me with a wonky wick. Yet it’s usable for some reason.
Looks like cotton to me or maybe a blend (Fiber Freaks etc), the best thing to do is a burn test on it.

Light it, observe the burn and smell, & ash, Should burn quickly & completely, be light gray ash that blows away. Make sure you smell no off odors in the smoke. Just paper mostly, maybe a little wood/leaves.

It lit fairly quickly, but not burn super quickly (maybe because how it is weirdly packed), but there was no off smell, just a faint smell like indeed burning paper or the beginning of burning wood would smell and the ash is gray (the little bit that is actually left) and is really light.

*edit: as a test I also burned some Muji, but that burned way quicker. It didn't really leave any ash, so couldn't see if it differed from the other stuff

As far as I know the Tidi Rayon balls are hard to source in the USA when I wanted to try some.

I upped up getting Delasco’s rayon balls.
Heartsdelight, I ordered Tidi rayon balls 969162 2,000 count from here:
Rayon Balls Large Non-Sterile

Here is the 1,000 count:
Rayon Balls Large Non-Sterile - 1000 per Bag
You'll save $10 if you get the 2,000 count.
Shipping was $8, so $38 for the 2,000 count with shipping. Not bad IMO and inline with what Rossum paid. They are made in the USA FWIW.

The burn test sounds good. It's hard to say what that product is, the major manufacturer of Rayon in the EU is Lenzing who make a product called Lyocell (Tencel), this version of Rayon has less environmental impact during manufacturing so it might look a little different that what we are used to here in North America.

Another test is to put some in an RDA and you should be able to vape that wick bone white, using shorter pulls as it gets dry. Cotton for me always has a tiny residual amount of juice left over in bottom of the tails, when using rayon I can get every last drop of the juice out of the wick.

@Heartsdelight, which US state do you reside in please? I'm finding a few places in the US that have Tidi Rayon Balls in stock, both medium and large.
Wow maybe things changed from when I looked. I’m in New Jersey. Thanks so much!

I doubt I go through a half a dozen balls per year myself. So 2000 would last me 300+ years.

Like I said, I still have roughly half the 1000 count bag I got five years ago left, and I've given away quite a few quart-sized ziplock bags of samples. :)
Cool. Good to know, thanks. I will have more than enough for the rest of my life and more than plenty to give away. ;) Awesome.
