I'm still with Rayon ... it basically showed me, I don't like the taste of cotton.
yes.. I just ran a Cotton core, rayon shell wick on my Erlkonigin rta. Qorax had posted about it on the Erl thread. I had a longer coil going.. parallel 28g 6 wraps .6 ohms.. made the coil longer.. wanted to try that wicking. small tight bundle of cotton, then wrapped that with rayon.
worked very well!
XBarb!!
I have been switching from cotton to Rayon every other rewick. Which for me is every 24 hours.
Why so often ?
I've been running the same wick for well over a week at 6ml/day.
When I first started with rayon there 'seemed' to be a break-in period, but now I don't even notice it.
Cotton most definitely has a bell curve of flavor whereas rayon is more lineal.
atrophy,
Just because you have a Maserati doesn't mean you have to drive 150 mph.
I did the same thing when I got my Seven 30... it is kind of disappointing to not put the pedal to the metal. By the way my Pro Tank coil at 30 watts last about 4 seconds before the coil went Poof.
atrophy,
Well I am using 16 watts on my Fogger ( 8 watts X 2 (coils)) and that is fine with my Black Licorice (water clear juice). I don't know I tried some Kahlua once and that stuff gunked up coils and wicks faster than I could fill the tank. Chocolate may be in the same bracket.
But looking at your pictures it doesn't look all that bad actually if that was my setup I would be say He!! that is good for another four re-fills at least. Sure sounds like there is something strange about that RDA.
Do the air holes hit the coils straight on? I know with any of my tanks if I don't line up the air holes with the coils it just taste REALLY harsh. They say you can move the air holes to get more or less throat hit - NOT for me it just goes from a great vape with whatever throat hit that juice gives to extremely harsh when I offset the air hole more than about one wick diameter let or right.
Some of these pro-vapers must have some secret they are not telling the rest of us mere mortals.![]()
PS - I can continue to use my Fogger with the coil gunked 3 times what you so in the pics and it still tastes and hit OK just start to loose flavor and nic buzz. I didn't realize I was loosing the nic hit until I re-built tonight to get the flavor back. I sat down one the couch and said wow that tastes great started chain vaping a little until all of a sudden the room started spinning. Had to set that puppy down for awhile. Maybe the carbon build up works like a carbon water filter... ???
It works as an insulator, it doesn't allow the coil to heat up as much.
Anyways back to the Rayon business. I have gotten to the point where I need to pull the wicks and dry burn my build. I don't think the wicking is a problem but more that my coils are starting to foul leading to a bad taste. I am vaping various chocolates and it comes to no surprise as I have had this issue with chocolate flavors before in my clearos. Kinda bummed as this build was doing so well
Oh the infamous "wet-dirty sock" flavor.... sadly I know it all too wellI'm still with Rayon ... it basically showed me, I don't like the taste of cotton.
Atroph-
Plume veil on a REO?
The reason shorter, thinner tails work better is because particulates (including flavor) don't have to travel as far through the filter (wick) therefore the wick lasts longer and provides a more flavorful vape for an increased amount of time.
Shorter, thinner tails are better than fat long tails. What filters more, a 4 inch thick sponge or a 1 inch thick sponge. In wicking we want the least amount of filtering, more particulates equal more flavor.
