I've seen multiple content creators doing a similar thing with their donation economy - going away from patreon and similar sites to create their own personal donation/funding site.
With youtube there's some problems with that though - if you were monetized you won't get that kind of revenue unless you're actively seeking out sponsors or ads (or pay to become part of an "ad selling ring"), getting money would mean potentially a whole lot more work.
People will be less likely to find you, there's no smartphone app or any kind of online infrastructure for your site. I know I only "found" some reviewers through YT suggestions. Interested smokers would have less comfortable access to types of content that make a successful switch somewhat easier.
A better option would be a youtube-like site for vaping where all vape content creators unite, that's a lot harder to achieve though. Still preferable to a completely splintered community.

NO ONE thought I was going to quit smoking successfully, really, to undergo "self-care" I still have to give myself a stern talking to, LOL. The talk usually goes, "Anna, there are people in this world that care about you, and will be undergoing what YOU go through, so if you can't value yourself enough, well, try to be the best YOU you can be, for the sake of OTHERS."
LOL, I happily plough through whatever paperwork was needed for OTHER people, it was not a problem.
If I have to do it for me? It's usually right under the wire, and poorly done.
If anyone understands this self care business let me know. Although I am still going to call vaping a HUGE self-care win.

Close but not exactly. It doesn't have a dedicated UI for video uploading or handles any form of payments.
What I mean is a "VapeTube", a site dedicated to video vape content providing everything necessary to potentially make a living off of it if you're popular and dedicated enough. A simple forum is miles away from that.

Would be great, seems start up would be expensive and require sponsors. You would definitely need a group rather than an individual. If you could lure some of the more popular reviewers over and provide a forum as well I would certainly become a supporting member.
