Why do people say that? Wrapping a wire on a stick is the easy part. Then you have to get it attached! Those screws are tiny. You have to make sure the wire isn't touching anything (like the top cap or whatever) so it doesn't short out. And, you have to get ALL that rayon through the tiny coil and trim as needed.
That is not easy! It's doable, but not easy.
Well, I did not get to wicking

, true. But it is not something to be frightened of, either. Women use tiny little clasps, on necklaces, behind their heads, sometimes! Or the wee little earrings. I have magnifiers galore, and use 'em!
I mentioned using regulated mod to check resistance, so you will know if you have a short.
Most people seem to be intimidated by the 'ohms law' part, not by the mechanical act of attaching coils to the deck.(from my reading, anyway)
No one part is particularly complex, or difficult. Just do one step at a time, and check your work. I agree that wicking can be challenging, as there is so much conflicting advice! But, what is the worst wicking 'disaster'?
A dry hit? A little juice drip?
Possum64 already doing DIY juice, and has come to terms with some hazard involved with making an error. Caution is needed for both, but should not be cause for fright!
Didn't mean to imply that no effort was needed.

Just that it isn't a dark art, only known to high priests, and impossible for mere mortals!
