Glad you posted this opinion. From someone who has not dipped a toe in the mech world yet access to cleaning and maintaining may not have been on my radar. Which proves I'm not ready to go there yet.
Expect to see this a lot more often. Proprietary switch designs seem to be the new thing now that bigger players are coming back to mechs for the squonk rush (side note, still unclear why the squonk resurgence seems to be coming with a mech resurgence). Warranty repair is big business for companies and, with no other reason I can surmise, it's my opinion that's the main drive with these closed switch boxes. Keep users out and burn them if they try to get in (warranty void).
I have no issue with integrated switch designs, so long as they are able to be broken down for maintenance and inspection.
When I make that jump I'm going for old school simple.

There is literally no compelling reason to do otherwise. Consider for a moment that your hand can be a perfectly effective enclosure for your battery and atomizer with a little tape and a couple of quarters, and soon you start to wonder why you'd spend even a second on engineering when that time is better spent on minimizing size and maximizing usable space.
These new switch designs are addressing a problem that doesn't exist. Mechs get better with thoughtful industrial design and the shortest, most conductive circuit path you can get away with.
How about Squeezing Enthusiasts?
Hopefully it won't be like when I got my first provari and was like, "Where have you been my entire life, most specifically when I started smoking..." when I do finally break down and get one. I'm sort of allergic to RDAs, although to be fair, I have only vaped one that was super DL and not so great for me. I'm sure if I found the right topper, I could enjoy squonking.... I think.
