so would a Wotofo Freakshow rda be an Adequate starter rda?
In my opinion - no, sorry. It has bottom airflow and you'll run around with lube on your hands like a serial mastur... vapur.
Get something with side airflow, much more forgiving for someone starting out with dripping (and I bet it'll still leak a few times from overdripping).

i was thinking about buying an rda before a squonk kit just to see if the rebuilding is for me, i mean, dont get me wrong i think i can do some crazy coil builds (single or dual) im gunna get pounded with hate for this but, ive been watching a lot of Rip Trippers, and i want to build SO BAD so now i need to find a 22mm RDA to fit my AL85 :p
Rip taught me how to wrap. His older vids are great. Watch his Scottish roll wick video too.

A 24 mm RDA will fit an AL85. And the BB tank you're using now only holds about 2 ml. Starting out with an inexpensive RDA seems like the reasonable next step. Then you can see if or how much you want to invest going along.

The BB coils aren't terrible, but you'll easily exceed their flavor with even simple builds.

Get an RDA with an optional squonk pin. If you plan on getting a single cell squonker I would suggest a single coil atty. If you are going to use it for dripping I would avoid bottom AF attys.

just asking because i can get it shipped to me for about $18 CAD so like $13 USD
I agree with untar about bottom af. Find a side af single coil on clearance. Since you've pretty much already talked yourself into getting a new mod anyway I wouldn't worry about diameter unless you are limited by size like with a pico.

I dont know if it has the same deck as the mini. I have a mini and it is tough to build on. 3 posts and bottom air flow. The AF is right under the coil and there is very tight tolerances. There are much easier ones to learn on, and the freakshow turned me off of BAF RDAs. Not squonkable either.

yeah i always watch (im gunna get shot) Rip Tripper, Zophie vapes :S and GrimmGreen if they all have similar reviews i consider it, but now that i have access to an awesome forum it will be those 3 opinions plus how ever many others i get here! and as far as side airflow what would you recommend? and i keep seeing reference to "Atty" is this just short for atomizer? im lost lol.

.... okay, going to stay clear of that one then

well i dont think i will be limited on size as i am looking into the Vandy Vape Pulse-X, but with just an RDA i have to be Diameter concious, with the BB on there it looks like it barely has room for clearance of the battery Cap.

Yep, atty = atomizer.
Since 24mm would fit the AL85 you could take a look at the Bonza or Peerless (special edition) RDA, both dual coil side airflow with a deep well, easy to build on and they both come with a squonk pin.
The oumier VLS might also be worth a look, it has a completely different deck and room for experiments (dual or single coil, horizontal or vertical).
The baby beast has 24.5mm Ø so 24mm will fit and for 25mm you only need 0.25mm to the battery cap.

As a single coil RDA I'd recommend the gorge, nudge or pulse 22 (also all with a squonk pin).

alright then, it really doesnt look like a 25mm would fit XD but i will take your word for it, now, being new to RDA would you recommend starting with an RDA with a single OR dual compatability deck? or just straight up single coil for now

An AL85 will fit a 25 mm tank. I don't think you will have a problem with a 24 mm RDA. I would just be gentle removing the cap. You don't want to yank the 510 connector out of the top of the mod. Smok isn't known for the sturdiest of builds.
well .... of course.... lol, i guess ive done really well with my vape lol, other than scratches its flawless XD

would you recommend starting with an RDA with a single OR dual compatability deck?
They both have their drawbacks and advantages. Single coil is easier to build but you have to drip more often, also the placement of the coil and wicking need to work together so you don't get spitback (the coil is about 1cm from your mouth in the center), a single coil consumes less battery power (which would fit your AL85 single battery mod). Dual coils are slightly harder to build (2 very similar coils mounted in the same) and more power hungry, but they have a deep juice well and spiback isn't as likely as with single coil. Of course they also produce more vapor.

On a single battery mod and with maybe a squonk mod in the near future (most of them are single battery as well) a single coil atty is probably the better choice for you at the moment.
Btw there's a single coil version of the nudge called nudge 22.

These are also good to learn on. Very simple and plenty of real estate to build on. Pretty much leakoroof. It was my first bottom feed RDA and still one of my favorites. Flavor's OK. vapor production is good and fits any build.
Dead Rabbit SQ RDA by HellVape x Heathen | 22mm MTL RDA

Edit: I actually like it better than the dual coil rabbit.

I'm one of the few, seemingly, people that like the drop solo (at least more than the recurve).

But there's a couple tips to know:

1) The smaller PMMA cap will reduce the chamber and give a lot better flavour. It's more similar to the high end single coil RSAs you can buy. But if you build your coil too high, it will melt the inside of the top cap and that's not a good thing.

2) I use the regular metal cap, but in both cases you get better flavour (and avoid melting the plastic cap) if you build your coil upside down...

Thanks for the tips. I hope I like it more than the Recurve because I am underwhelmed by it regardless of build or positioning. Many othe RDAs with better flavor imo.

@Iotodem Either a Drop RDA or a Dead Rabbit RDA would be great to start building on. Both have super easy decks, good flavor and squonk pins are included. I'm pretty sure you could find either for a good price since they've both been out a while. Both can be built single coil too, so you can try each setup to see what suits you best. When starting out it's best to get an RDA with good airflow. You can always dial it back to suit your style but you can't add airflow to a restrictive RDA.

Also, watch what you want and don't feel like you have to justify why. No one is judging anyone here. I watch all of those popular Youtubers. Some for entertainment and some for the nice closeups of vape gear I'm interested in. No shame. Welcome to the shiny side.
