What’s its name?
Little Crow

But ehrm, it's a 67 mods Mini Rave. Ridiculously expensive for the size and materials, but will retain some resell value and it was a temporary sale, so I figured 'what the heck'. :rickroll:

Most stores here won't go near mechanicals anymore. For anything. No rebuildables either. I can't say I blame them. There is a lot of liability. I have seen people who know about ohms law running 18ga. 4 wrap dual builds on 18650 VGODs You don't know what the person is going to do with it after they walk out the door. Even if they have knowledge, it doesn't necessarily mean they are smart
Watched one guy loosen/tighten the RDA on his Cherry Bomber to vape it because the spring melted and the button got stuck. I quickly ended my visit to that store.

We don't sell mechs, we do have a few rebuildable RTA's and some premade GeekVape coils, those are always bought by customers who know how to build and use them on regulated mods. I had one customer stomp out because I wouldn't tell him in 5 mins or less how to build and use a hybrid tube mod that he bought off of some guy... Told him what he had was very dangerous and he should find a friend that could sit down and teach him how to set it up safely, since it was his first mech.

Thing about that story is it was a mech from the Philippines, so it was likely nice and shiny with well done engravings on it so that's why it was chosen. The reason he was even vaping is a real kicker to the story.

" Brown, who wasn’t a regular smoker, purchased the device on Jan. 27 while on the way to the bank, the grandmother told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He suffered from asthma and was told that a specialized vape pen might help improve his breathing, she told the newspaper."

So a terrible accident by someone who never should have had that in the first place. And the second place. And more. Who tells someone with asthma a special vape pen will help? Probably told of some sorta legit asthma inhaler and thought this was the same thing. But if course that's not how the headlines go and that's not what sells papers or views. It's click bait gone wild.

Authentic Cherry Bombers came from the Philippines as well, they were as sketchy as the clones.

That whole asthmas thing makes me suspicious. Sounds like that’s what he told grandma so she wouldn’t give him a hard time about getting a vape. Because like you said, nobody tells you that, and also if they did, nobody would believe it.

No vapemail today and none expected until Monday. But, I did recoil a couple RDAs this morning, and they're performing just fine, so there's that.

And, I did get to stop at the music store and pick up a new clip-on tuner (I do have and use my A-fork, but I can be as lazy as the next person). Alas, then the home-care person called me as my mom was freaking out: yelling, trying to punch and scratch her, and she managed to push her way to the front door, naked (as home care was trying to start her shower at the time), and yelled down the condo hallway for help and that people were trying to kill her (I wish I could say that's a first, but I can't).

Not an entirely unusual day for her (and me). She was calmer (but sullen and mad) when I got back. I let the home-care person leave early, gave mom her shower, and am waiting to see what fun ensues when I take her to the dentist in a few hours.

Oh good luck with her at the dentist. That's so hard to deal with in a loved one. It can feel like no matter how hard you try to do your best it isn't enough. But it really is. You're doing all that's within your ability and it must be so draining on you. Don't forget to look after yourself too.

I read that as well. Not much info imo. Just enough for the masses to pull some hair out and add to the arsenal.
At least the tips provided at the end of the article imply that user error was to blame. As does the info that the guy had just left a vape shop where he had been asking for advice on how to use his mech mod (which I guess was lousy or ignored or followed incorrectly).

Poor fellow. Poor grandmother.

Supposed to get below freezing the next couple nights. The streets are wet from rain and sleet. Getting home in the morning should be FUN. People here can't drive on dry roads, let alone icy ones.
Oh, lord, I just registered that this is in Las Vegas. You have my sympathy.

Lol thanks :) Seems to be clearing up. Hopefully it dries out. Scary driving here when it freezes. The mountains are starting to peek out from the clouds now. They are covered in snow. Very pretty.

60 and sunny here today. Had the windows open instead of hudling over the heating vents like 3 days ago.

So the Athena arrived. It's OK. It's a good backup mech squonk. Good thing thru include 2 bottles because the one that comes in place is so hard it's useless. Like squonking with a Unicorn bottle. The second is a soft silicone but needed the feed tube properly trimmed. The squonk pin is a super tight but floating pin and the aluminum is certainly light enough. The finish on the 510 top plate has a little bit of pitting, probably from sitting in a storage facility forever with no silica gel pack. Overall very good for the money but definitely a backup device. It does fit plain Coil Master bottles which are cheap and of decent quality. Same is true on the Cut so generic interchangeable bottles are always a plus.

This is the second package in two days from different vendors that were labeled as Bluetooth speakers. Guess that's the new code word. I didn't even see them pass through ISC, it's like they were just waved in straight to USPS. I wonder if that's remnants from the shutdown. If it's little and the dogs aren't concerned just pass them through.

Not many details offered. Would have to be a perfect storm to cut the carotid artery.

Absolute tragedy - Poor lad was only 24. I didn't appreciate the biased reporting the original news article - showing a picture of a low capacity e-cig with venting that is less dangerous battery-wise than a laptop. To add insult to injury, add some hype about the number of teenagers vaping these days at the bottom ....

Most stores here won't go near mechanicals anymore. For anything. No rebuildables either. I can't say I blame them. There is a lot of liability. I have seen people who know about ohms law running 18ga. 4 wrap dual builds on 18650 VGODs

I have worked with some really industrial high voltage/current kit in my time and it has taught me to have a very healthy respect for high current devices. Anyone running the above setup has got a death wish - you are looking at ~ 100A current at 4.7v running 470W. That is higher than the main fuse-board rating in a UK household (Generally 60-80A) and what your average MIG welder will utilise. All it takes is 1000th of that current to be fatal. So a poor 18650 used under these circumstances will very likely fail, and fail bad.

Looking at the quality of some atty's, personally I'd be very wary of using a mech unless I was 100% convinced of the atty, mod and battery provenance/quality. Even then, if the switch failed closed (and I've replaced many of them in that state in my time), you've got a problem.

If I ever feel the urge to reach the vaping heights of a small electric fire, I'll buy a Steamcrave or something with decent protection in it. Not that I'm dissing people who use mech's, but you really have to be very diligent. As this tragedy shows, you have to be right 100% of the time - the kit only needs to be wrong once.
Who tells someone with asthma a special vape pen will help?

I can sort of get that, PG is used in nebulisers and as a kid (I had really bad asthma) my mother used to get me to stick my head over a bowl of steaming hot water "to help open up my tubes". According to the British Lung Foundation, swapping cigarettes for an e-cig can improve your symptoms of lung conditions like asthma and COPD. [There's more evidence than ever that e-cigarettes are safer than smoking]. Both my BIL and I have lung conditions, and we have found that to indeed be the case. Qualifying that, we are both DTL vapers, and neither of us had any luck with MTL pen devices whatsoever.
