Hey all, hope everyone's having a shiny Friday. Got a load of juice in today. Some new stuff to try and some old favorites.

And some legendary ones, too. This stuff has graduated to my "always try to have at least one extra on hand" tier. So good.

Oh yeah, I'm not finding a new mech to fall in love with this week so I'm thinking of finally giving in and buying a Topside Dual. Not the fancy one but maybe black with red splatter or just black. Whatcha think Y/N?

Friday, 8:21 PM PST Las Vegas. Was sitting at my computer desk when the office chair started doing the Watusi with me, rocking back and forth sideways. We had got hit by a far stronger earthquake/aftershock here in Las Vegas than that previous one that was 130 miles away in California, and it lasted much longer. Nothing on line about it yet, but it was either much closer or far stronger at the epicenter than the last one. If it was in that same area of CA, it was far larger than the 6.4/6.6 quake. I seriously doubt there was any damage done here by it in Sin City.

Folks that live in the SW are used to quakes much like folks that live in the tornado and hurricane alleys. The quakes happen often here but are so mild most of the time that they are often not felt at all. I've lived on the Mojave for 27 years, and this is the strongest one I've felt in that time. Maybe just because I was in the right place at the right time... sitting quiet rather than out and about.

So it is on line now I see:
    Estimated 6.9-magnitude earthquake hits California

I woke up to the bed shaking. I looked it up and it was a 7.1 just north of Barstow. I think the same place as the others.

Yeah, I didn't see your first above post @Skunk! until I sent mine to the forum. So it was south of the 6.4 about 60 miles, but was still close to the same distance from us, only about 10 miles closer. The difference was the magnitude... some info for folks not familiar with quakes. An earthquake magnitude scale is logarithmic. I did the math and the difference between a magnitude 7.1 and 6.4 is that a magnitude 7.1 is just over 5 times bigger, but it has a bit more than an 11 times stronger energy release.

Update: So much for early reports from the Talking Heads. They are now saying it was not near Barstow, Ca. It was close to the same place near Ridgecrest, CA as yesterdays 6.4. It was a higher magnitude, so it will probably not be labeled as just an aftershock.

I absolutely admire her so much - she is 93 and still able to be the Queen  but that was funny
The official communication that was sent out to all children in New Zealand when she visited in 1962 is among my most prized mementos. I was very dazzled by her at the time (I was five) and coveted her tiara.

on the ferry between south island and north (NZ) the swell was so rough everyone was lying around being sick (wrong decision made to sail). i was the only one still in the bar and actually had to pour myself a pint as the staff had fled. did leave the money for it. lightweights.
would have liked to go down to christchurch (as it's basically scotland) but was with, what turned out to be, wine snobs. urgh.

It's my understanding that the magnitude of the quake isn't as important as the depth...so a 7.5 eathquake that is deep will not do much damage but a 4.5 (for example) earthquake that is near the surface can knock down buildings :)

Hope everyone is ok there.....and it's not a prelude to a shallow biggy!!

Good morning shinies :) Hope all are ok and nobody has been affected by the earthquake. We have them pretty regularly here too....when they happen there will be one big one and then 15-20 aftershocks...you can feel the pulse running through your body and building but no shaking ever for me....thank goodness :)

I had a message from @classwife this morning telling me not to cross post my reviews....I had no idea...

But she was very nice (as usual) and I think shes more annoyed with the reports she keeps getting than the actual reviews...anyway I've asked some questions to clarify and then we'll comply next time for sure :)

Going to do a few builds today and maybe polish up one of the Luna's....I'm happy and I really hope everyone else is too
