@ShowMeTwiceYeah, I did a relatively fast sanding/meshing by hand. I believe I started with 320, then 400, then went through the micro-mesh pads: 1500-12000 (1500 micro-mesh is roughly equivalent to 400 standard sandpaper grit I think, and 4000 micro-mesh is equal to 1500 standard sandpaper). A bit of oil before and/or after sanding (many recommend butchers block oil, but I used coconut oil) will deepen the colors, and then buff in a light rubbing of conservator's wax (or renaissance wax, depending where you are).
I don't know about the micro mesh in terms of comparison with the normal grit scale but I always assumed it was a direct comparison. Any way I just needed to say that my sandpapers went all the way up to 10 000 grit and I didn't need to use my micro mesh pads. You only start to see and actual shine when you get to around 8000 grit....hope this helps and here is the kit I used....
