I space single wire a sliver and don't space complex coils. Seems to give me the best from both.
I kept turning up the wattage until all I got was a crackle. Finally settled out at 30w. Spitting is gone thankfully. Next squonk refill I’m going to have to drop to 3mg, 6mg is spinning my head! It’s been quite a while since I’ve gone over 15wNo hot spots to work out and supposedly more flavor.
All they do is pop and spatter hot juice for me.
Let me know how it goes. I didn’t have very good luck working with the flat wire. It was like working with tinsel and kept tearing. I suppose if I wanted to vape at a higher ohms I could’ve got the thicker wire but thats just my preferred vape.
I think I’ve got 6 wraps on this, and it’s under 0.5. I took her at her word when she said 0.1 wide was hard to work with. Seems like there’s a lot more available at that width though. I don’t see myself using this often. Works nice in the Axial though
I find flat wire very flat tasting (drum kick, drops mic ).
Joking aside, those having difficulties trying to form a coil with springy flat wire, try torching the wire and dousing it in water before winding your coil. This will stiffen the wire to some degree - each metal will have its own properties so as always, YMMV. Hold one end with pliers and use what ever heat source you have on hand. Could be a lighter, candle, gas stove or a hobby butane torch. Do not glow the wire, but heat up enough just before it begins to glow, then douse in water. If your heat source leaves a layer of soot, just clean it off with some alcohol – cocktails are optional.
Or as an alternative method, make your coil, let it fall into it form, install it onto your atty and dry fire it. When cooled, remove coil, place back onto your coil jig and pull the leads with pliers to tighten the coil. Again, cocktails are optional.
Both methods require a bit of effort, but may help achieve a more uniform coil.

This one I did a contact coil @.32 and 7 wraps. Works great, very little ramp up time compared to any other build that size. I have some Molicells coming and will rebuild a bit lower when they arrive. I was splitting the tails on it but found if I did the wicks like this and kept them out of the way of the coils, I noticed no real difference.
I got frustrated with the thinner flat wire. I am using .3×.9 now and it's like working with any other wire. It doesn't try to unwind itself. The resistance on the SS is lower than you would want tho.

I prefer contact coils for the Clapton family. Tried them spaced and they don't give me as good flavour.
Mine looks like a big ol hot mess compared to that!!!

Unregulated mods made me completely change my wattage
. The highest is the B2k RDA on a Luna, with a 0.5ohm, 3mm, 4 wrap flat wire 1.0 x 0.14mm. Ohms law tells me it's around 25-30 watts - but more wraps makes it slow to ramp up and cool down. So I'm just ignoring the wattage now completely, and going by how it vapes
My smaller deck RDAs are more in the 0.65-0.7ohm range. A more respectable, cool vape @ 20 watts
I don't get the popping and spattering but I don't get the better flavor either or at least not in any of the ones that I've made I haven't tried with a little spaced coil jig that came with the Ares RTA yet because right now I'm just kind of hooked on my little tiny itty-bitty adorable subtank lol I never knew I could like a subtank this much I wonder if it's cuz the coils are very similar to what you would make yourself and not the new style of coils they're horizontalNo hot spots to work out and supposedly more flavor.

I've tried 0.5 x 0.1mm ss316l and that is worse than flimsy. It is seriously like coiling gift paper curling ribbon
0.9 x 0.1mm was still flimsy, and really difficult to wrap with. I still haven't built a successful coil with it yet.0.5 x 0.2mm kanthal is what I use in most of my RDAs - it's still thin, but since I'm used to coiling 28ga ss316l, I find it fine to work with. And I love how quickly it ramps, and cools down
I would like the opinion of anyone that wants to chime in;
