Are those bougainvillea? Because if they are, that’s a damn cruel joke.

I've got no bias against possums or opossims as long as they don't cause me problems. They can wreak some serious havoc in a chicken coup though. Most of the time they'll steal eggs, but sometimes you get one with a mean streak that'll kill the hens and not even eat what they killed. Then again, wild pigs, fox, coyote, they can all be a pain at times too. I'm not out to exterminate them, but if they're a problem they've got to go. Whether that's trap and release or kill depends on the animal and the situation. It can be dangerous trapping a wild animal, and releasing them has to be done outside of a civilized area not on private land or it's just pushing a problem on someone else which isn't right either.

I love animals BUT I can't stand venomous snakes and coyotes. They will die.

I have experienced both and I can tell you, it is not nearly as scary to live in a tornado area as it is an earthquake are. I experienced two of CA biggest. Sylmar in 1971 (I think) and Northridge in 1992 (ish)
It is too strange for the ground under you, that you have always been able to count on as stable, all the sudden to be jumping about. I remember seeing my mom, going down the hall to get my brother, literally bouncing from wall to wall.
At least with tornado's you have a good chance of it not touching you
Tornadoes put me on edge living in an RV, same as with living a mobile home. In a house with a cement foundation, preferably bricked, I'm not as worried. I've been through a few and seen what they can do, they left a lasting impression on me. That said, I've never been through an earthquake, and it's not something I'm eager to experience, especially not a big one.

I got into a heated debate about this with a friend of mine who has chickens.

I absolutely agree, you can’t just leave them kill your chickens. But it took me all day to explain my perspective. In a small town/ suburban setting, where people sometimes don’t really know a thing about these critters, the instinct is to kill them. I’m against killing for killing’s sake.

The worst an opossum is going to do here is crawl around the yard and eat bugs. They’re not going to fight with my dogs. Maybe they’ll get in the trash - although I’ve never had anything but cats tear up my garbage.

People are ignorant though, and they don’t know an opossum from a rat. And apparently my friend had no idea why I was was defending them.

Lots of tornadoes have gone through here. I have the creepiest little basement I’ve ever seen, but I’m grateful for it when the sirens blow, lol.

Doesn’t really scare me. A couple have gone directly past, and one, directly over, my house. I just grab the pets and hide until the dust settles.

I think I could cope with living in a hurricane zone if I knew I could bug out. I don’t think I’d want to deal with earthquakes though. Do you even get any warnings?

I was down in Arizona once hanging out at someone's house out in the wilds, after dark. We heard crashing noises outside. Apparently coyotes had been in his yard at night trying to get at his chickens. He went rushing outside with his rifle screaming death to the coyotes. Turned out to be a calf that had escaped from the ranch next door that was feasting on his vegetables.

not until recently. Not the slightest bit of a warning. Out of nowhere. You are just hanging around and all the sudden the earth under you is slanted and jumping. They have recently developed some apps for your phone but they did not detect the recent activity in CA and were found to be faulty. Even those only gave like a 2 minute warning.

Has anybody heard from SMT? He hasn't posted or been in since April 1st. Last I saw him, we were having a nice chat about our love of music. Worried about John. I have tried pm'ing him, but no response. Anyone have his email or number? Please check in on him.

He’s gone MIA before and I pm’d him. Took a couple days for him to get to me. I worry about him too.

@ShowMeTwice if you see this, please just let us know you’re okay.

You and I have issues then, I rather like coyotes AND venomous snakes... lol

Snakes don't want to hurt anyone they just don't like to be rudely stepped on...

Coyotes? They're just wild puppies.. they avoid people like the plague if they can...

:) I have nothing against any wild animal. But then I'm a bit wild myself so I understand them.. haha

The only animal that has ever caused me to feel a bit of fear was a bear, surprisingly enough, but even they don't want problems, they like being left alone just fine...but I do admit feeling some fear being within a few feet of a couple without a pointy stick.. lol

I do have something against those great big rats called opossum though... disease carrying vermin they are..
