A quick comment on the Tauren mech boro mod :

The vape is better than I expected with the X chip (mosfet).
I've done some tests and it hits almost as hard in mosfet mode as full mech, especially when you screw down the battery cap (hard!) with the tool provided.
Reminds me of the Luxotic BF.
I'm not keen to run it in full mech mode too often - too many variables with boro rbas.

One major negative is that it doesn't sit flush on a flat surface. It rocks a bit because the base is slightly convex. I think I can see why - the design of the fire button assembly puts pressure on the centre but not evenly. Anyway, I'll be mangling the thing soon, so a bit of sanding on the base won't be a problem.

First 3 stages of battery stube patina project.
Masked, after acid bath, un-masked.

What do they say, is it a surface treatment or does it actually alter the surface structure?
I'm wondering what it would look like after a light buffing.
Exactly. It seems like the acid reaction creates more of a surface treatment. Since the photos I've buffed it and now it's lost those hard lines and is starting to look more weathered.
My plan is to repeat the treatment another time or two to get a deeper patina - hopefully with a bit of a pitted look.

Morning shinies ;)

Both my orders made yesterday have already shipped

I love it. And can't wait to see the end result of how you eradicate that gold shield
Thanks Ange and everyone else for your positive vibes.

As for the gold shield...it might take a nuclear blast. Everything I've tried so far doesn't even scratch the little bugger. It has some type of magic force field. I feel like a Loony Toons character trying everything to destroy it and I end up with my clothes in rags, soot on my face and my hair standing straight out from my head in all directions.

You did a nice job T. It looks really nice.

Found this on giving it a pitted look:

Misting appears to be the key recommendation for obtaining a pitted look.

Try painting it with black enamel paint, just enough to fill the crevices, but leave the raised parts gold. This will give it an antique gold look.
