You'd think like with any other consumer electronic, it just stops charging when it senses something is off.
Reminds me of what happened to why DotMods fell off the map. Their batteries drained slowly even when turned off - normally a mod will turn itself completely off and stop draining after a certain point.
The internal batteries overdrew and ballooned out. DashVapes lost something like 6k in inventory because of this. DotMods told them that he/customers were responsible for keeping it fully charged. Apparently they expected him to open up all the boxes and keep the battery levels topped off.
In both cases we can blame the consumer, but ultimately it's bad design.
I hear what you are saying. The Smok device should cut off voltage once the battery is fully charged – but was that the root of this issue? Not all electronic devices, especially those that operate off USB charging are able to detect a high output from the charger. You can plug an iPhone into a Samsung Fast Charger and it will charge….faster than normal rate than if used with a Apple charger. But the unit gets hotter than normal for we are now using it outside its recommended environment. Will it catch fire? There is that possibility. Just to note newer iPhones have improved on their charging capabilities.
The problem with using electronics is consumers do not read the fine print. In the case of USB we make the assumption that it is universal and the same across the board when in fact it is not. Plugging in any device that is not designed for a Samsung Fast Charger is taking on a higher risk which could lead to a potential problem. Out of desperation I’ve plugged in a Vaporesso mod into a Samsung charger, the unit got scary hot. Not saying it would have caught fire at that point of time but prolong usage in this manor could cause a malfunction which could lead to a fire similar to that Smok device.
. Battery boxes are even marked married or divorced so I don’t grab the wrong ones. If I see a charging irregularity, I “widow” the keeper and recycle the offender. Maybe I take battery safety too seriously. I just know if I burn the house down, my hubs will put my vape gear through the wood chipper
