Got around to building the Wotofo Serpent Elevate today... 1st build, leaky, leaky but that was my fault as I used thin cotton. Next attempt used more cotton and bingo...

I dig it.. Vapes good, flavor (even though I vape plain vg/pg I can tell) is there and it's silly simple easy to build, just use thick cotton.....

For $23 smack-a-roos I am very happy with it..

I'm going to advise a big differently. There is too much variability in QC on drop in coils. Insulators slip and wires protrude where they shouldn't. I would never use a tank that uses drop in coils, protruding 510 or not, 510 on the mech or a faux hybrid, ever. The risk of a short is too great and it's out of your hands. You're relying on a mass produced coil to be properly made to assure your health and safety.

How many times so folks discuss getting bad coils and problems with getting check atomizer? On a regulated mod, you get that heads up and stay safe. On a mech you find out the hard way.

If you're not prepared to build, don't bother with a mech. You're better off with the safety features in your regulated mod and avoiding real trouble. But if you ever want to build, which isn't all that hard, there are lots of mtl options out there and they most all will work well on a mech. But that's just my opinion. I know others choose differentl.

I cannot trust my hands enough to have faith in my ability to build and what you say makes sense to me, @Eskie. I'm inclined to err on the side of caution.

In other news, the SX Mini SL is going for $132 at evcigarettes.com, the same price for all the finishes/colors on offer. I could get a stabwood in blue, green, or mixed, but I'm leery, both because of what I've read here and because it looks kind of garish and/or tacky in several of the pictures I've seen. The carbon fiber seems more predictably tasteful.

Just before putting the SX Mini in my cart at evcigarettes, I ordered a Vaporesso Armour Pro, a Sinuous P80, and an extra Pico 25 from sourcemore. Just under a hundred smackers for the lot, shipped, which seems like a good deal to me.

If I get the SX Mini, @Letitia, I will have bought everything you first recommended to me except the Squid Detonator. And to think that back then I was intent on getting only one mod and balking at spending $50.

Can I take the red shoes off now? Please?

If you test the drop-in coil tank on a regulated mod or atomizer tester (ie, just like you need to test a new coil build in an RDA/RTA) whenever using a new coil, it should be just fine.

Like I said, folks can decide the risk benefit ratio themselves. But having seen the volume of drop in coil failures (and they do happen even after use for some time) I wouldn't take on that hazard. I can't think of a single coil manufacturer I trust sufficiently to risk my mouth, face, and hands to vape without short protection in place.

There are always unregulated mods that offer the performance of a mech with no voltage adjustment other than that of the draining battery but still have short protection, reverse polarity protection, low voltage cutoff, and the other behind the scenes protections that come with a little bit of added electronics. But a straight mech with a drop in coil tank? Just not the thing to do.

Besides, especially for mtl with a higher ohm coil, there's real variation in resistance coil to coil. That means variation in performance you can't change by raising or lowering the power a watt or two. Not the vape you want? You have to toss the coil and hope the next one is closer to what you expected. Whereas build it yourself and it's not right? Takes a minute to wrap a new coil with an extra wrap or take one away. And you're not tossing $3 in the trash can. But if it works for you and you feel you understand the issues, vape however you're happy. But it's bad practice to recommend someone to use factory coil/tanks on mechs.

I've been looking at 'chip' mods too lately. But it was sparked by the awesome vape I get off vaporesso's omni 4 chip. With you getting the armour pro, you can try out that chip too.

All except for the OG Drone.
Leaky press fit 510, broken button supports, cracked door tabs. At least the DNA 250 board is top quality.

Never had the drone.. Is that the squonker? No Squonk for me, ever.... I thought about it once when the REO's were top dawg and all the rage but passed...

This thing is like sucking a frozen milkshake through a straw. Can it be drilled out? I haven’t done it since pre sub ohm days

I found their RTA way too tight as well, even without an airflow restrictor block in place. I think I've just got too lazy to suck anymore. I used to LOVE tight tanks

True and to add..... Plenty of places sell pre-made RTA coils.. You can get like 10 of them for $4 at most places.. If someone does not feel comfortable making RTA coils those are still a cheaper option than the pre-made tank coils that usually cost 4-5 each...

I'm pretty lazy though so the tank coils are fine. I do have RTA's and they do give a better vape in my option but then my laziness kicks in... :D

I have DL tanks. For daily I prefer a restricted dl. I’m in some awful grey zone. Mtl is usually too tight, dl too loose. I like a cooler vape too. I put a 0.6 fused clapton in the Elevate, and it’s about perfect at 1/3 af open.

That's what I have in my Serpent Elevate right now.. .6 ohm @ 25 watts and air about 1/3rd... Awesome vape...
