I have the journals he wrote in as he was living the war and battles in the Pacific; the timeline of where he was, when and how he got there, when he left, etc and how (mostly via different freighter ships that I also have pictures of). I also have all the relics and souvenirs he brought home from Iwo and Japan, and some of the pictures he took with that camera in Hawaii, on Iwo and in Japan... and a "home address book" of his buddies in his unit to stay in touch with them after the war (but most of them did not survive Iwo). Next to their entries in it he added the dates when they were killed. The 5 week battle for Iwo took a heavy toll, near 21K Japanese and 7K American's died there. Dad wasn't a journalist by any means, but his thoughts put down on paper tell his story as he saw and felt it unfold. The dozens of horrific pictures he took on Iwo Jima and in Nagasaki were destroyed soon after he spent a day alone with me when I was twelve explaining in a show and tell of sorts way to help me fully understand exactly what war really is all about. No other family member had ever seen those pictures, not even his father or brother (even though they were black a white pictures, if you had seen any of them you would understand why). He took and saved them so if he survived, married and had a son(s) that someday might have to go to war some day he could do what he did do for me.

A picture of him on Iwo Jima when the 31st CB was putting up Quonset Huts, building a landing strip and a road to the top of Mount Surabachi. His friend "Goldie" took the picture with his camera.

So incredibly sad & poignant. But beautiful that he survived to share his incredible service with you! I’m sure he didn’t think of it but what an incredible book he could’ve had published. But memories of war I’m sure lived in his heart & he probably didn’t want or need in print.

I also meant how incredible your life with your dads camera in the box with the manual still intact. You carried with the same care the camera, box & manual through so much!

And boy have I got one. Some of you may remember the health scare I had with Marley being egg bound. We ended up giving her massive amounts of oxytocin to induce labor and she finally passed 6 nonviable eggs.

We figured she was at least 2 months past due because of the calcification and when all the other terrapins started nesting.

Well, good news. Evidently there were 7 eggs and somehow the sneaky girl got past all the cameras and passed one fertile egg months ago. This was looking up at me from the nesting box this afternoon.

This is a total surprise. I am keeping this one, I feel like Marley gave me a little gift! The shell is a chocolate brown with cream yellow patterns and the contrast just pops. It's skin is a bone white with light blues in it... It's by far the most amazing hatchling this year.
Absolutely stunning! I can never get enough baby turtle pictures. ALMOST makes me wish mine were still breeding. He/she looks quite sassy ;)

VVIC is a little more vanilla extract than I’d think would work. But I have a French vanilla cream I would try. Your mix is what got me thinking about trying it, and I wrote down what flavors you used, but I’ll be dipped if I can find where.
real impressed with the smell of the clear double chocolate(TFA) we will see in a week if the taste matches the smell.i'm going to mix some banana(cap) with cdc,i'll let Letitia name that one too.

Good morning, here in OZ anyway, winter is here and cold at 60F. My latest shiny a Galaxies RDTA is so satisfying..I just know that more are coming, but my atty stand only holds 10 so I guess some will need to go, so sad. I guess I could buy another stand but then there is the problem of desk space....I supose that the way it is with shinys.

As far back as I can remember, except for that one day Dad never talked about the war. The inhumanity of it had left a lasting impression. I don't talk much about my military service either, but I didn't have to experience the same level of atrocities that he had to deal with.

From the one who has said many times that he does not need anymore gear at all.. tomorrow or Saturday another new Shiny set up will be here. This one is one of those backups to back up all the other backups that are backing up the backups that back up the first of their kind I bought.

(Kind of sounds like the Abbott & Costello 'Who's on First' routine from 1945 doesn't it?) ;)

For the youngsters here.....

My little shiny order came today! Not very shiny; 'twas but a 12 pack of 1oz amber dropper bottles, but I am pleased with them. The shinier part was the new phone & case. I am happy to have it, but am a little weirded out by it as there's this new 'plan' attached that I am side-eyeing fiercely.

That's why I got 2....2 for under the price of one is fabulous :D

I knew I'd be placing an order with Chef's Flavours today, but much to my surprise I've also bought two Lunas from Sourcemore and an Sbody Legend II from Fasttech.

This thread is a blessing/curse.
You're like me...2 luna's sourcemore and Legend II is in the post :) You must admit that all of those three are good deals though :nun:

I'm good bud. Going away for the weekend. The wifey is a bit stressed and over worked. I told her she needs an outlet...start vaping, but she just gives me the glare...
EDIT to add.
I'll be traveling light...loading the medium vape travel bag now....:thumb:
Aah, the glare.....well enough said  (you idiot) :D

Hope you both have a really relaxing weekend :) Just out of interest does your wife still smoke or is she a complete non smoker?

Out of strange and difficult situations a star is born.....that's a lovely background story to the little one :)
