While I was looking at your list we had a small earthquake here. They are common here, but I rarely ever feel them. So it took me a bit to realize that is what was making my cup of coffee rock and roll. Either the epicenter was a long ways away, or it was a very small one. A big difference from the two about an hour apart my ex bride of about 8-9 months and I experienced in San Francisco in 1969 that did a lot of damage to our house. They were common in CA as well, but most were strong enough that you always felt them. For decades they have said that Las Vegas will become beach front property when southern CA slides into the sea.

It looks like you are buying stock in the company ;) (I don't do business with FT).

Hey, one theory about my surname is that it derives from the word santonica, Latin for "wormwood." I've always felt I should try absinthe sometime as a result.

Absinthe imbibed the traditional way is very, very sweet. Even more so if done the way the Czechs do it. So it is not my thing. I do make a DIY that includes AB in it, but at a small % to keep the sweetness in check.

That would be the one I felt. Too far away (130 miles) for the 6.6 to do much here.
I saw your post just after I posted. It was quite a shallow quake, apparently, and those can be quite destructive. I hope the damage is not too severe.

What I don't understand is why evil doc still has a job.

And I'm glad you got that mod.

Probably because there's a net shortage of psychiatrists in the US and it's particularly bad in rural areas. I have a feeling Anna's clinic would fall in that category.

The whole Absinthe thing was more social than medical or scientific. The amounts of thujone in current Absinthe is regulated, but whether it even added any additional effects to the high alcohol content present was never clear. High doses of it, like actual wormwood oil (no idea who you order that from, as I'm sure BCF doesn't carry it) can be toxic but outside of that I think it's more novelty and chic than some weird mind altering toxic brew.

From what I understand, most of the wilder side effects of drinking absinthe have more to do with the alcohol content than anything else.

I say YAY, go for it!!! It matches your personality to the nines... spoken lovingly.
I like the Chieftain and Samurai.

Love my DB v3.
You just need to be careful to not drop on a foot, or toes, cause it WILL break bones.
My dog flung mine off the coffee table with her tail and that was in like slow motion for me. It hit the carpet with a mighty THUD. Nothing broke not even the RTA glass, very lucky. Now I know why Squid uses a ship anchor in their logo haha.

So I want to buy THIS: YAY OR NAY?

I think it is BEAUTIFUL:

Oh heck, I'm getting it, I deserve it. LOL

Agreed, it's a higher alcohol content than gin or vodka. Not as good as the Rectified Spirits I have which like 200 proof or 97% alcohol. Then again I only use that for stuff like cleaning and soaking squonk bottles. :(

I remember reading something about pouring it on a sugar cube... we tried it when someone brought it to my sister’s house, the same way we sample any new-to-us booze, straight, from a shot glass.

That earthquake is at the top of my news feed. Yikes.

You don't need a high alcohol content, you just need some alcohol, and a stomach willing to tolerate it and a liver that's good at metabolizing alcohol.

As far as tequila, I quit that LONG before I quit drinking. It was just TOO embarrassing, on tequila I had a long and loving assignation with a guy who looked EXACTLY like the guy on saved by the Bell, not the "hot" one the one with all the hair. Which also reminds me of my older brother. Ewww. We spent our night... In a BATHROOM.

I have no clue what happened but he seemed pretty happy. I look upon my "nights of tequila" as "I'll be Aphrodite for YOU random, scary looking man."

It just got to be TOO much. LOL.

I love the mod TOO. It's awesome. I also gave my kid 300 dollars because he needs wisdom teeth out and also, truck work. It's hard at first. I am super happy to be helping my kid out, because there were times in my life I couldn't and my mom would do it and I'd want to thank her and punch her at once, because there are always strings attached. I told him I would do that every pay period until he's caught up. He was so sweet he was like "You don't have to help me." And I was like, "Kid it's been a while since I really could. I am GLAD I am helping you and it won't be forever, but I LOVE you and I'm PROUD of you." LOL

We MUST sell the damn house thought this "dual occupancy thing" is not working well financially and I'm still saving on a downpayment on a home.

The husband and I might seriously live in an RV for a bit. If there was enough space for me to do yoga, I would do it. Totally.

Oh also evil doc is there for many reasons.

It's a pedes clink. Yes, my supervisor knows he's a psychopath, but that's IT. Also, head guy says he sees a lot of patients (and he does) but "it's more because he hates to see sick kids waiting" so he makes them money. I kind of believe it with the sick kids and all, but then he rushes and sucks. He tried another clinic but the other docs hated him so much he had to go back to where he was. IDK how he did not get fired then, but everyone kind of tolerates his weirdness.

Which is my goal to get to-- tolerate his weirdness. I don't want him to really know I exist, there is plenty to do besides see his kids although THIS madness with the plan, IDK how long THAT will take.

Harvard medical degree doesn't hurt, either. I don't entirely hate the dude actually and I haven't from the start. He reminds me of my dead stepdad who was a very loving, wonderful clinical who had to do everything HIS way, was narcissistic about it, and well, good for some (sick) folks, bad for others. My stepdad also had borderline personality disorder and beat my mom for decades. Everyone but me (kid wise) wanted my mom to make him leave. Having been through my (first marriage) DV relationship, I never tried. I just-- didn't. I knew it wouldn't work. You can't MAKE someone get well. There were things I liked about my stepdad too, but I sort of kept a distance. I was polite, kind and pleasant. I was not even mad at him for beating my mother, I was like, "She's letting him do it."

So if evil doc beats his wife too, and that is why she left well good for her I say. She will possibly get sucked back in, but that's up to her. I will NOT be asking blow by blows of the marriage account.

But yeah, pedes docs, they don't undersand nuts and they have accommodated this guy for so long, it's like, whatevev. They will keep on DOING it. I just hope he says all is well at the meeting, so I too can say "all is well."

But I WILL BE READY IF HE TRHOWS ME UNDER THE BUS and at that point, he will come to see that sometimes, you can underestimate people.

I am easily underestimated in real life I am rather low key, calm and chill. Occasionally funny. But, I'm pretty mellow.

Evil doc broke me once, and that's good now I know my areas of weakness. Everyone's like "How are you?" (It's a test) and I"m like "great and so happy to be back!"

I even sent the head of the clinic an email apologizing profusely for a legit dumb thing I did, but I also said, "I'm so sorry about the past few weeks. It's easy for me to say they were hard "for me" but I do understand they were hard for everyone and theses situations are never easy. BTW my time away from the PCE made me realize even more how great it is, the MAs, leadership, everything. I will tell you, not all clinics have MAs as good as yours, and I appreciate the staff a great deal.

Also I know no one person is ever to blame but I should also say, I know I made mistakes along the way and could have handled some things better, and I appreciate your patience. My goal is to make IBH as calm stress free and pleasant as the rest of the clinic."

LOL she is talking to me again now. Once I get a good assessment (and evil guy was hard) and know what is "expected" (I have a plan) I should be good.

I have a couple of gallons of 190 proof Everclear, bought to make liqueurs/amari but now probably destined to clean gear (my cupboards are already full of my concoctions, and I barely drink anymore).

I wanted Everclear but it's illegal in NY state (as well as others) yet this stuff is OK to buy even though it's higher than 180 proof. Probably an oversight as it's imported as a specialty type of spirit and costs way more than Everclear does, or did. Same principle. It's a great solvent with no toxic contamination risks (as long as you don't chug it or something).

Good for making punch too.

Traditionally, you pour your absinthe in a glass, then lay one of these on the rim, put a sugar cube on that, and slowly pour ice water on the sugar. The aim was to add five parts water to one part absinthe, ending up with a not terribly strong drink.

I'd really like to make a small quantity of absinthe. Problem is, I'm missing two important ingredients (calamanthus and veronica), and I don't think I can justify buying them in the amounts available on Amazon for what would likely be a one-time thing. I already have pounds of bittering agents and other additives languishing forlorn in a blanket chest (they were recently moved from a cupboard so I could put--guess what?--vaping paraphernalia in it).
