Yeah, I'm going to set aesthetics aside and get one. So what if I don't like the color?
Maybe you will like much more in person. My wife had a hot pink Pico 75w and I was going to buy one of those wraps for it cause pink isn't my color. Until @Vape Muppet sternly told me I should not, with good reasoning, memories and all, and he was right. Thx VM, I do appreciate that. Heck I don't care what color a mod is anymore. I never look at the mods while I'm vaping anyways. I just vape!!! ;)

I don't look at them while I'm vaping, but I sometimes gaze at them when they're resting.

I have not ventured into the new drones. Had the original that the button quit on, poor design. Probably fixed on the new but i fell in love with topsides.
I would recommend to look at the topside. I have 3 single a dual and a carbon. No issues with any. I even dropped one so that it bent in where the bottle opening is. Couldnt get the sled out, bent it back and still works great.
I dont use temp control so the dovpo chip is great for general use. Many get the dna devices for temp control. there is a school of thought that if you dont use temp its a high cost for vw.
Just figured id mention this as i have not bought any squonks since the topsides. Not saying i wont but it ticks all the boxes for me. Single topside is best for single coil or maybe the profile. Topside dual for your beefy dual coils. They do have the carbon (limited production they say) that is a yihi chip and has good temp. All have a 10ml topfill bottle so they are simple.

Oh and they do have bypass on the single, so almost mech.

Anyway my :2c:
Good luck on the search.

I just checked out the dual topside. I’ve noticed it around but never quite looked at it and I think the Drone 250c may have just taken a second place to it, and at half the price, that’s tempting. I’ve seen a fair bit of good reviews for the single. There’s a better than average chance I may have that dual ordered by sun up.;)

I’m torn on them. I love the Drone, DNA, lightweight, great hand feel, beautiful, great vape.

The Topside is, and I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, a hideous freak of nature, lumpy and weird, big in the hand, very heavy. But, still a great vape, sturdy as they get, very serviceable.

I think I paid $120 for the Drone, $70 for the Topside. Both are worth the price tags.

So I’d recommend either. Just if you tend to drop stuff, go with the Topside and steel toed boots.

I dug this Fancier out of the archives. I have a bit more chops with RDAs than the last time I tried to use it as a dripper. AF holes are directly under the coils so one must go easy, but not a bad vape.

Sun’s up and I’ve yet to decide. How’s the battery door on the topside dual? Looked a little jiggly in the videos.

I really like the drone but I hear the batt door is wonky and some people have issue with leaks between bottle and rda. At the same time it seems to have a following. I really like the price of the topside in comparison though, and it being heavier. I tend not to drop my things, but I like solid.

If I had a clear cut winner on better chip life that would probably take it but I’m still undecided so I’m just sitting really still. So far best I’ve seen is drone, $119 (in black) and topside $59 (gunmetal).

Decisions..

Cool! I have been eyeing that one. It is 20700 with an 18650 adapter. It is a big mod, about the size of my Azeroth but looks like it's built much much better. It's a bent copper bar , wire and a Mod Maker or Moddog (can't remember which) 510 connector, which are easy to come by for now. Looks like it would be compatible with other bottles too. You should be able to leep that thing working for a very long time. Hope you enjoy it. When I get some spare cash I will have to get one myself.
Congrats on the MDX also. Stainless mods are great. They are much stronger than copper or brass and less maintenance too. I should get SS mods myself but find myself drawn to the copper ones.
I agree...there's something about copper and it's verdigris/patiner that's irresistible....and they polish up really nicely too :)

The Drone has a DNA board. If you're a temp control vaper it wins on that alone. However, the design is exactly the same as the previous Drone, with the only change being the body material to some sort of plastic for less weight. The whole 510 thing seems to be the same with the issues of leaking. One fix is an o ring you insert yourself around the 510 but there still can be internal leaks. There is the option of the Topside Carbon with a Yihi chip for TC, but it's more expensive than the Drone.

It also depends how you vape. I'm rarely over 40-45W, so there's no real benefit up me of dual 18650s over a single 21700 like the 40T and it's smaller and lighter with roughly the same runtime. If you vape at higher wattage then a dual makes more sense.

I've never had any trouble with leaking or the door with my drone. All the door does is move a bit sometimes when you squonk hard.....it's a non issue for me...

@DeloresRose can tell you more about the topside vape but honestly you cant beat the lovely smooth vape that comes with the Drone's dna chip....still your choice :)

No TC here, I stick to wattage and I’m at 52 watts. That’s about as high as I take it with the wire I use, anything bigger and the resistance gets real low. As it is, tri core fused clapton 28/36, 5 wraps.

All my experience has been with 18650’s so I’ve been overlooking 21700. Under identical use what would you say the charge life is in comparison between 2 18650’s and 1 21700?

I have had zero leaking with either the single or dual. Dry as a bone. One, and I think it was the single, I forget, had one loose door screw. I tightened it once and check it once in a while, has not come loose again. Like I said, I’d put a drop of super glue or whatever, if it happens again.

The doors are tight and solid with the batteries inserted. No rattles, nice firm fire button. Nothing not to love.

If I do have any problem I’ll say so, but so far all is well.

Assuming you're using 18650s with 2500-2600 mAh (25R or a VTC5a) and a 40T 25A with 4000 mAh it's not much of a difference at all. When you add batteries in series you're not automatically getting 5000 mAh, it's not 100% efficient. So it ends up without a real advantage except for the higher voltage of the 2 in series, and that only matters at higher power settings.

Oops, sorry @Dr. Seuss I mixed up my mods!

Battery door on the Drone flexes. I don’t have an issue with that, but I have small hands it seems guys complain about that though, so I kind of figure bigger fingers and squeezing harder will maybe create more door flex.

As for how they vape, Drone is a bit smoother. But it depends... are you a DNA fanatic? Or can you cope with the the chip in the Topside dual? Which hits a little harder I think, and is not too shabby at all. Or can you get by with the Single in watts or bypass or do an upgrade to get temp control?

What do I teach for most often? Honestly, the single. In bypass. With a 21700.

I highly recommend you get all three and decide for yourself. That’s the only way to be 100% sure.

Now that 21700 are in the mix I don’t know what to do. All I know for certain is the drone is in a now or never sort of group.

I feel like I have 9 months or so to decide on the rest.
I highly recommend you get all three and decide for yourself. That’s the only way to be 100% sure.
