@DeloresRose sorry to hear about your experience this morning. Glad to hear all is well-ish.?.?.
If your house still has the stench smell boil vinegar in a pan. Your house will smell like vinegar but the smell will be gone. It sounds like a skunk from Georgia's symptoms and your description. The early mornings are prime skunk time.

This is what we used to bath our dogs who got sprayed. All the vets recommend it.

Mix the following ingredients:
1 quart fresh 3% peroxide
¼ cup baking soda
1-2 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent.
*add 1 quart warm water for large dogs to ensure complete coverage
Bathe your pet outdoors (to prevent bleaching of fabric).
Keep the mixture on your pet for 5 minutes, then rinse off. Repeat.

First read through I got a skunk fell down the well and is stuck and thought "wow, the expense of digging a new well all because of one skunk".

As to cleaning contacts, I've gone with a very fine sandpaper on contacts and found it does well. Not much force as you don't want to grind the metal down (with a fine finishing sandpaper that shouldn't happen anyway) but that and a buff after seems to get them looking all nice again.

On another note, I've been watching the bad Luna the last few days to see how it would behave. Did an internal inspection and everything looked OK, but I can't be sure I know enough to draw that conclusion other than it all looked clean and connected. The button looked clean from what I could see. So I put an atty on it, put in a battery, and have been keeping a close eye on it. So far it's doing well on probation. Which is good, but now I feel sorta guilty as if this one remains stable I have 2 Lunas as they never asked for the return of this one. I guess the scare and aggravation and time spent dealing with it offset the price, but I'm still uncomfortable about it.

OTOH, having 2 in rotation is nice, and I really liked the colors and resins on the bad Luna. The good Luna is pretty too, but now I have the best of both. Fingers crossed it doesn't act up again.
Yes I agree but also I think on balance that the best thing also is to not say anything. They can spare a luna imo.

Glad that it's behaving and I guess there's no need to say take the battery out when you're not there :) I suspect it will be fine until old age now and for me I take my batteries out on my mech's anyway as a matter of course.....working or not.

The light sanding method works, of course, but it isn't the best thing to do. However light it is it will still leave an abraded surface which attracts the production of more oxides.

Early evening here after a nice relaxing Sunday....hope you have or will have too :)

That’s one thing I definitely know didn’t change over the years. Chasing the unicorn is an expensive hobby. That’s ok though. Although, the classified forum seems a lot slimmer than I remember! Where will I rescue good used vapes anymore?

I went with the light sanding because nothing else was seeming to work. Looks great after, and hopefully I'll take of them well enough to never end up in the same position.

On the Luna, I guess I shouldn't feel bad, it's just like a reflex thing for me. But given the time spent figuring out what to look for, disassembly and successful reassembly (never a sure thing) combined with all the polishing work should justify my sweat equity in it. As to the battery, I never leave them in any mech overnight as it is, so nothing unusual for this one either (even unregulated ,and especially this one). It's more building up confidence that I don't have to see double while always keeping one eye on the mod. I suspect you're right and it'll live to whatever ripe old age Luna's will be known for. I guess I should try and get some extra boards from Asmodus to stash away, as the way things look soldering will sooner or later become a skill I'll have to relearn.

On another note I found about a half dozen RTAs I stuck in the back of the drawer to clean and rebox for the stash but forgot about. So I spent some time tearing down, rinsing, scrubbing, and a trip through the UC today. Now everything is bright and shiny, really looking like new. Once fully dry I need to find the corresponding boxes of which I probably have some of here, the rest in storage somewhere, so it'll be find a safe, temporary place for them to hang out. I kinda forgot how much stuff I really did buy over time. I only pay attention to what's in active use and lose track of the rest. Not that it means I'm done, just that I need to set up better inventory records.

Hey all! Got my first mech mod yesterday. View attachment 837119 Same friend that gave me the Dead Rabbit RDA gave it to me. It's a Glas clone. It appears to be working ok, but really needs to be cleaned up. The machining is nice and smooth but the contacts have some corrosion on them, and I just want to make sure everything is ok before I use it. Any suggestions for cleaning it up? Thanks!

Nice one Rob!!! :D I agree with @charlie1465 on the pencil eraser or just one of those pink erasers by itself. That's what I use to clean the contacts on my mechs. It's non-abrasive. IMO they work best. I clean the contacts very regularly on my mech's. For a total clean of a mech I use warm water and dish soap. A good rinse and thorough dry. Keeping your mech's clean will ensure the best performance. I'll fully clean a mech I haven't used in a while before I use it (dust and gunk can/will build up).

Superior Vapour has a good page for cleaning info. How to Clean your Mechanical Mod

VGOD has a decent web page with cleaning info. How to Maintain Your Mechanical Mod (Mech Mod Maintenance) ?

There are also many cleaning/maintainance tips etc in the Mech sub here.

Safety: Know your build, the amp draw, use a proper battery, make certain your battery wrap is good. Steam-Engine is your friend with mechs.

Hope that helps bud. ;)

Skunk is bad, but roadkill is worse. My lab loved rolling around on anything dead, the deader the better. I'm sure it was a dog thing to cover her own scent to try and fool the deer, but those were the most disgusting cleanups I had to go through.

Wow. Never heard of that before. Labs. :D

In summer/fall my wife had many dogs, and some cats, coming in her grooming business for baths who were sprayed by skunks. All of our dogs have been sprayed. Usually they're around at dusk, night and dawn. Skunks are nocturnal.

Guess I'm the oddball --- it's my mechs that I actually feel comfortable leaving a battery in overnight. It's mods with boards/chips/mosfets that have the potential to autofire out of the blue (whether they've been 5-clicked "off" or not).

@DeloresRose, maybe a passing trunk vented/spilled something as it went by your house, and that's why the stench is so localized? Whatever the source, I hope the air clears soon and that you, Georgia, and Rudy all continue okay.

@Eskie, you earned that Luna. Besides, Sourcemore chose not to ask you to return it, despite the fact that plenty of vendors require the return even of broken/failed/dead-on-arrival items. I think you're morally in the clear.

    Morning shinies ;)

Just an FYI to @NolaMel and @AngeNZ -

I'm squonking with the KRMA bf RDA and real happy with it.. it's top airflow closed down somewhat is pretty good.. very flavorful, no spit back..

I got the clone, and the cap is a bit tight, you have to be careful taking the cap on and off and trimming your leads, but for 14 dollars it's a dream even with that. I'm taking the cap off on my ohms reader since I'm using a mech and don't want to take chances, but it's not really a hassle since once your coil is built you have a while before you have to clean your coil or mess with it once on the squonker..

I thought you'd like to know..

$14.51 (Free Shipping) SXK Krma Styled RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (316 SS, Black (SXK)) at m.FastTech.com

Thank you - and we miss you when you don't post here

No guilt allowed - no matter what caused it, you still have a mod you don't feel 100% safe yet using.

Plus Sourcemore owes this thread at least 1 free Luna after all the purchases we've all made ;)

It's a Lab thing - When I lived on a 500 acre sheep farm, mine was brilliant at finding anything dead and rolling in it. She got lots of bubble baths afterwards ;)

She just liked the baths and knew no other way to make you give them to her.

    Hi Rob

There are lots of different ways to keep your contacts clean. A very easy one is to use one of those pencils with an eraser on the end....you'll be surprised at what it gets off...

Here's a vid which may help....

Wouldn't a micromesh pad do the trick, too?
