I’ve been shopping, but only for mouse traps. It’s a winter thing, almost always get a couple.

The last couple years though they have been really hard to catch. Because of the dogs, I can only put poison in the crawl space, and that helped but I still have a couple. They’re too small to set off the Victor snap traps - I got the plastic ones because I can’t seem to set the wooden ones.

And of course being an animal lover, I already tried a live catch. I caught a mouse and a half. That was really quite awful. The only thing that got them was sticky traps but that’s unimaginably cruel. And they learn. I have to constantly change what I’m using and where I put it.

I found one that’s a box that electrocutes them, should be here tomorrow.

But if anyone has any ideas please let me know. I’m going crazy trying to clean everything. Ugh, so gross! I’ve only seen poop in the back hall floor so far, but it feels like everything is dirty lol.
When I have had a mouse in the house my cats will not rest until they catch it. They do not eat them, just catch them and will not let them get away and a bite mark usually results in death in a day or two if I have not found the wounded mouse and put it out. Archie, my porch cat, says he is taking applications for his next human. lol

Despite being a tough farmer, mice and rats make me scream like a lil girl  I saw a big gray blur under a hen shed, panicked - peeked another look, and saw it had bunny ears. I instantly was all 'awwwwwwwwww, you're so cute'

In the hen sheds, we use wired bait blocks - kept in specialized plastic cases. Mice & rats can get in and out - but chickens can't reach into them. Usually a rat will eat some bait, get out, and keel over outside the shed, somewhere later. So that sort of setup may work for you - but only if you are 100% happy it is Georgia and Rudy-proof. Have a look at any rural supplies store.

In the egg shed, where we store boxed up eggs, we just use an ultra low frequency pest repeller. It sends out electronic signals which apparently annoys bugs and mice. We were also using a mouse trap with peanut butter - but the lil brats kept eating it and not getting sprung. So we stopped using that ;)

Ugh! Just went thru that myself. Grabbed a skillet one night and as I turned to the stove I went “oh Hell no!” Two full loads in the dishwasher took care of most of my pits and pans. Then there was my cast iron.....

I have steel wool stuck in every nook and cranny I can see. Obviously there’s a spot I can’t see. Peppermint oil does not work BTW!

    Good luck!

The Midwest. Cars rot from the salty winter roads and food is king. Love the food back there and everywhere you go they feed you, especially when you're skinny like me. I need a trip back home now...
Actually down here south of 64 they use grit more often. The winter road budget is very small in most towns. The real nightmare is the potholes after the snow melts.

Sorry, but I really didn't need to read that. I really want to support the USPS, I believe it should be a standard service of the country and not a for profit private enterprise. However, the powers that be seem to want to destroy it and use its funds to cover for their tax cuts
You won't wanna hear some of my stories then either.

I live next to woods and my foundations are full of holes so I get a lot of mice. Only had to use poison once when a mouse got wise to the live trap.

I found a tip online. Get some steel wool. Unroll it and cut it into 8" lengths. Staple it around where the pipes come into the kitchen. They won't go near steel wool. Mine were all coming in under the sink cabinet and behind the stove where the gas came up. Haven't had a mouse in the kitchen in a year now. They can still get into the space under the sink cabinet and I expect they will eventually chew a new hole but I'll be watching.

I think rhey use that most places now. They don't allow salt in the mountains out here. Kills the foliage.

I got one of those during that sale last year. Glad you found the problem (sucks you had the problem to begin with) as it’s really a very nice regulated squonk that gets regular use by me.
    Sorry late reply.

I plan on fixing it sometime this week. Simple enough, just need to replace my iron. The damn tube fell out, along with the buttons. Easy, but slightly aggravating fix.

They started using beet spray instead of salt here. Works pretty well, from what I’ve seen. I bet it’ll be a while before that’s common, all the costs involved with switching over. But the motivator was the year a lot of counties were cheated out of their salt supply. We just cannot keep these roads usable without something to melt the ice.

I haven’t seen a bait trap Georgia couldn’t eat. Rudy wouldn’t be able to, most of his teeth are gone, lol. And I was advised not to use those electronic things because of the bird.

Outside, mice don’t bother me at all, or pet ones. I just don’t like them in my house. In fact I had a pet rat and a couple mice as a kid. My mom was a saint, putting up with me.

I grew up in upstate NY. Binghamton to be precise. Cars there were terrible because of all the salt they used in the winter. Here in Cary/Raleigh, NC they use calcium chloride because it melts snow and ice faster. I don't know the effects the brine it produces has on metal, but you don't see any rusty cars around here.
