The first thing to do is stop using Microsoft Edge as a browser, it's really unsafe.

I use Firefox, Chrome or SRWare Iron (it's Chrome with all the Google nosy bits removed). You were lucky that it was just a web page you encountered. Actual Ransomware programs like that do the same thing on boot up and encode all of you pictures/documents making them garbage. You are given a phone number to submit a credit card number to and they give you a code to unlock your files... But it's a dice roll if you get any of them back at all.

You do have backups of your important documents and pictures etc on a removable hard drive that's kept away from the computer? If not you should, that way if you are ever actually hit with Ransomware everything is not lost.

Stupidly, I have a back up hard drive but it is plugged up and attached to the computer because it has stuff on it I need monthly (trust docs that I manage) So I guess since it is attached it would be infected too right? UGhh. Hate computer stuff. I was using Google and then something went wrong and I switched to Opera, on the advice of Greybeard (hey where did that guy go?)
I bought a new computer in 2019 and was told to only use what was loaded on it and that was Edge. Going to look into SRWare Iron

Morning all.

I mentioned a friend who had cancer a few weeks ago... well yesterday I got a call that he passed away Thursday night. Damn that was quick.

There were six guys in my husband’s circle. They’d been friends since they were 5-6 years old. The first died just before my husband got sick. Then my husband died, and another one died a few months later, and now this one. He was 60.

Forgot to report that the Kroma-R I ordered on January 30 finally arrived. It works fine, but after the long wait I find I don't care about it anymore. Into the vape bureau it goes.

Probably not worth the cost to bust that unit apart, order in a matching SMT USB port and solder it in place. I suspect the repair cost would be more than the unit is worth.

After the micro-usb port in my old tablet got loose, I ordered magnetic usb cables @Fredman1 for the new one - the micro-usb thingy then stays in the tablet port and you attach the cable when you wanna charge it.
