Not sure there's an exact parallel phrase. Maybe hanging out for is the closest.

So many Americanisms have melded into pop usage here but I've never heard an aussie use jonesing

i use that term for when I run out of my meds prior to the refill date. It’s a miserable physical and mental feeling.

I know it is a very southern thing. Here in Georgia folks are like "I got me a hankering for some cornbread and collard greens"
It is a whole different language in the southern parts of the US as opposed to the west coast. On the west coast we get a cart to go in the store and the southerners get a buggy. West Coast folks turn a knob or press a button to turn on air, lights, TV etc. Southerners just want to 'mash the button'

No I understood the meaning. It was the derivation I was interested in and thanks to @chanelvaps and @Zazie I've found the answer

Aren't they great? There's a whole sub culture of extreme utes out in the bush.
