Yes, I’m using it but for some reason all the tips I have are kind of short. Most of my tips are bigger and don’t fit the 510.
Yup you need a 16mm top to bottom....same as a Dvarw drip tip....11mm protrusion.

checking in to see what the Shiny folks are up to. I have joined another forum and am spending all my time in there. Cat health, specifically Diabetes. After a rough couple of months my guy Joe was finally given a diagnosis of diabetes. 3 blood tests in 2 months and it never showed. Then it did show and showed BIG. 560 was the number and it is supposed to be under 200. He has lost so much weight. I immediately started him on insulin injections. 1 unit for a week, no change 2 units for another week, no change, up to 3 units and still no change. Joined the other forum and got to talking and almost no one approves of the insulin he was started on. Friday night, changed insulin. I have to learn how to check his glucose numbers at him and he cries. Not a happy time for me.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Glad, at least, you’ve got a diagnosis, that’s half the battle. He couldn’t be in more capable hands but I get how stressful this is for both of you.

It's a frustrating catch-22 (well, I guess all catch-22s--catches-22?--are frustrating): you have an infection your immune system can't handle, so you take antibiotics, thereby weakening your immune system.

Remember to chow down probiotics as well, so the good bacteria have something nice to munch on. But I'm sure you already do this. I mean, what are you? A grandmother who doesn't know how to suck eggs? I think not. Sorry.
I'm full of probiotics, vitamin C, Magnesium B6, curcuminoids and I still get these infections!!! Bone marrow is getting better but they still have to pump me full of gamma globulin once a month...it's been very slow going since my stem cell transplant

I am alright Charlie. Life as I knew it has changed because I do not want to leave Joe for too long. I am still trapping and altering ferals. My friend and I started a bit of a company. we call ourselves TCAT. Stands for Two Chicks and a Trap. The spay-neuter clinic was so impressed with our efforts that they gave us our own appointment day and allowed us 5 on that day. Used to be we had to beat the crowd there, at the crack of dawn, on Tues or Weds only, to hope to get 2 each in(the limit per person). It was slow going and a lot of times we did not get our feral in. Then you are stuck with a cat in a trap and nowhere for it to go. Choices: 1) Let it loose where you got it and probably never see it again 2) transfer it from a trap to a cage and hope it does not shred your hands while doing this. I have had several loose in my garage from trying to transfer them and failing. Then you have to retrap in your garage and sometimes it takes days. LOL. If you are successful in getting it from trap to cage, you have to re-transfer to a trap and try again at the clinic the next day.
The fun of a retired person. lol
vaping on drop-in coils because he wants to build anymore. Not I. Favs are the Freemax (still) and the Thelema Pod kit
It's great to here you're getting around again.... really rewarding too.
I really hope you can keep on top of Joe's situation and I know he'll understand on some level especially if he gets to associate it all with feeling better....sending hugs to you and Joe

thanks Zazie. I do not want to pick and poke at him until he is leary of me. That makes me sadder than anything. Before trying to learn to do it on my own, I was just rushing him into the vet weekly to get the numbers checked. The vet feels the stress of that could be making them go up and strongly suggested I get comfortable with it at home. Yeah right. I have to ..... the vein in his ear and it is minuscule and hard to see because his ears are black. I have bought the best monitor, the best lancets and a better flashlight, all on the advice of the peeps on the cat forum.

Sorry to hear about your kitty, a friend and former coworker had too give her cat the shot daily and she lived for quite a while afrterwards, I can't imagine giving a cat an injection, a pill is quite an ordeal for me. The only cats we have now are some ferrells I feed at work and I miss having one (or two)in the house.

Oh no--I thought insulin was injected subcutaneously! You have to find a vein? I honestly don't know if I could do it. Not out of fear or squeamishness--although both would be in play--but because of the delicacy of the procedure. How on earth do you keep him still? My girls struggle when I'm just applying their flea medicine. I can't imagine being able to control them if a needle were involved.

I had somehow missed Joe's picture when you posted it. It breaks my heart to see that sturdy boy so frail. I'm so sorry the both of you are going through this.
Hi Zazie,
Insulin is injected subcu. I have to hit the vein in his ear to get some blood to test his sugar levels. Yes, Sadly Joe is a skeleton now. Last weight was 8.3 and his good weight is 13-14 lbs because he is a big guy and used to have lots of muscle. I told myself if this new insulin does not work and he keeps losing weight, I have to make a decision that is best for him as I do not want him to suffer or linger on until something hideous happens like a seizure in the middle of a weekend when I cannot get him to a vet.

Keeping everything crossed that you get some results with the new insulin....sounds like he's moving around which has got to be a good thing x

I hope he can get better. An old neighbor of ours had a cat that needed insulin shots and I cat sitter for them a couple times and gave it the shots. I don’t know if they tested it themselves or not but it did fine for a long time.

I see. No simple p rick of the finger for a kitty? That stinks. You'd think someone would have come up with an easier way to get a drop of blood for testing.

I repeat: I very much hate that this is happening.
