I had a different type of scare tonight.

I had left my BB on my desk.
Came back ten minutes later to a smell of burning juice/burnt cotton. I looked over and saw that the entire tank of the Orbit was drained dry (hot juice had dripped all over the place), and I could see that the coil was visibly glowing red hot through the top of the DT.
The body and G10 panels of the Billet Box (authentic DNA 60) were hot to touch and the battery was only just cool enough for me to take it out and place it outside.

The DNA 60 had auto-fired and the Orbit was just at the point of dry burning. No juice left. You can see in the photos that the cotton had burnt dry. The plastic tank of the orbit would have melted next and maybe the 18650 gone into thermal overrun.

I reckon a few minutes later and there would have been a fire in my house. The device was standing upright on a cloth mat on a timber desk.

I fully disassembled the BB and cleaned all parts and contacts but I'm not sure I trust that particular device anymore. I'd always thought that DNA 60s had a 15 or 20 second cutoff but either that's not correct or this is a faulty board (as opposed to a bad switch/contact). Because it's a BBV product, I can't access the DNA chipset via escribe to check it out.

I wonder if @BillW50 or @ShamrockPat might have any thoughts about DNA 60 boards auto firing.
Apart from a faulty board the fire buttons go rogue quite a bit....that's my guess!!

The 'weak' spot is definitely the contact switch. It has to go some or other time. I'm sure there's some out there that have close to a million hits on it :w00t:
If you're in any of the BB Facebook groups it is clear that quite a few boards and lots of switches develop faults. The boards are inherently prone to juice ingress and the switches go rogue a lot. A sure sign is when it loses its clickiness.

@Daniel Forsyth SMT knows more but I'd probably go for the reserve for your vaping style/tanks. As your link states the reserve has all the husk traces removed. The original X has a raw quality which means that here and there it has a few seed husks. But it's easy to pull them out or makes sure there's nothing there when you pull the wick through the coil. Here's a recent post by SMT about it. Carolina blend is now the reserve I think!!

"There are quite a good many folks on Facebook who love Cotton Man's Upland Sliver and Mavaton X. I have those and also his Carolina Blend (not sure what he calls that these days).

I prefer Upland Sliver and Carolina Blend over Mavaton X".

Hope this helps

It most definitely does help, thanks Charlie:wub:
I do have a packet of each on the way so I'll give both a try, maybe the Reserve first though:thumb:

Yes! Especially if we want to keep our DNA mods running over the long haul.

I bought spare DNA 75's + screens and DNA 60's + screens for if / when any of my DNA mods die. Bought those just before Evolv stopped selling direct to customers.

It's not difficult to replace a DNA board and/or screen. There are plenty of YT videos covering 'how to' if needed.

Spare DNA boards, all current types, can still be found at a few different online stores.

Vapour Shack in Melbourne carries replacement boards and screens for the DNA 60, DNA 75, DNA 75 color, DNA 250 and DNA 250 color.
    Search - evolv dna
Thanks for that link SMT! Just bought one.
Thats a good price for a DNA 60 these days.

The SEVO 70 board is interchangeable size-wise with a DNA 60 so I can upgrade one of my SEVO delros to a DNA now if I want.

True and False. :D The OG Mavaton's X never had any seeds or husks to remove.

The OG Mavaton's Select from many years ago, long before you bought your Cottonman cotton, had seeds. It wasn't popular.

At the very same time there was also Mavaton's Select Gold which was seedless. I've been using that and the OG Carolina Blend since late 2015 early 2016.

Eventually the seeded was dropped from his offerings. All the previous Mavaton's offerings then became Mavaton's Select.

The newer USDA certified organic Mavaton's X never had any seeds. This is the ONLY brand of cotton that is USDA Certified Organic.

FYI: There are no 'other' brands of cotton on the market anywhere that are certified organic.

None of Butch's current offerings have any seeds whatsoever. Those include:

    Mavaton's X - USDA certified organic
    Upland Reserve
Organic Upland Sliver (OG Mavaton's Select, my preference)
    Sliver Blend

    Hope that helps. :)

Quick pop in to say hi :)

Today i had a funny interaction with my pharmacist Luis,i always go around the block in the car when i drive near the pharmacy just so i catch him smoking a cig outside,if i see him smoking i hold my mod out the window and yell at him to stop smoking.

I think i am finally making some headway thou, talked to him today and told him that when i get the disposable from the giveaway (also getting some for review purposes) i would give him a couple to try it out and see if he can ditch the habit.

The day i get him to quit i will kill 2 birds with one stone, helping him stop smoking then throw some business over to my friends vape shop,it's a win win.
So far i have helped 9 people quit and for good,no cigs in their life...would be 11 but 2 of them struggle with anxiety and can't seem to decide if MTL or DL so they are dual users,I'm still not giving up thou ;)

Friend from the vape shop chain in Sevilla called me today,we talked shop for a while and he told me they almost sold out pretty quickly with the Druga S RDA 22mm.

Haven't seen to many reviews for this version but the few comments i have read it seems it's a solid device.

Apart from this not much, weather is crazy over here...some days it rains and then sunny like today.

Hope you all have a nice day :)

    @charlie1465 :D

Just got off the phone with Butch. I wanted to make sure my notes, from our prior convos, were accurate. They are. Here are the details for each of his current cottons (5).

Organic Upland Sliver (corded) was named Mavaton's Select. That's my preferred cotton. It is organic but not USDA certified organic.

Upland Reserve (not corded). It's a non GMO cotton variety developed by the University of Arkansas.

Sliver Blend (corded) was named Carolina Blend. Is is a 50/50 blend of acala cotton and an upland cotton. I also use this one.

Mavaton's X (newer is corded, OG X was not) USDA certified organic.

Facial Pad was US Pad. Similar to some of the Japanese pads but without the external coarse material folks peeled away (most of the Japanese pads have that). It's a much higher quality cotton versus Japanese cotton pads.

Over the years I've tried each of his cottons. Some are no longer available via the website but can still be purchased (limited quantities). Each was excellent and performed well.

The reason each was renamed was due to the old website pages containing vape related information. Butch felt it best to remove all vaping info from the website due to deeming gov regulations. He doesn't sell cotton for vaping (wink-wink ;)) as he doesn't ever know what a customer uses his cotton for. :)

Do you have a link to share, please? I’ve been buying so much fabric the word ‘cotton’ leads my search in a far different direction.

And while I was looking around the website I came across two interesting items so I got a sample of each to try considering all the hype:eek: @ShowMeTwice your good self might be able to give me some info on these two:thumb: Maviton X - The Cotton Man and Maviton X Reserve - The Cotton Man
    Way to go!

Mavaton X Reserve is the same as his Organic Upland Sliver. It's excellent and my preferred cotton.

Mavaton X is his USDA certified organic cotton. Also excellent.

I am confident you will like both. :thumb:

I now have a VA Scylla RTA on the way!! SCYLLA RTA by Vicious Ant and it's only coming from Vic so it shall be nice and quick!
That's awesome! Your Scylla will be very proud sitting on any of your Good Wood masterpieces.

Per VA the Scylla RTA is the spiritual successor to the Kraken. VA certainly has an appreciation for mythology. I've had my eyes on the Scylla for some time now. I can't wait for your thoughts.

Stepping into the high end RTA arena, nice! Does this mean a Squape Arise might be next? I do think you would really like one (you need one ;)). Mine has been in constant use since the first week of 2020-11, love it. She will never be retired! Yup, it's that good. :)

I'm happy you bought one T.

FWIW, maybe this might be useful to you. Here is the public FB group for BB's. Billet Box Forum.

I am certain you have this one already. It's the one Charlie's posted a few times. It has links to many BB FB pages and much much more on BB's. Billet Box Info » All the information you need to fall into the Billet Box rabbit hole.

ProtoVapor is another store that carries DNA boards and screens. They have all the current DNA boards and screen sizes (including the newer DNA 100C). Decent prices. I've ordered from them before. They're in Honolulu, Hawaii. Evolv Products – PROTOVAPOR

So a while back I was doing updates on where my package from FreeMax went. It finally stopped moving in California. And I'm only really updating this to say that freemax sent me another tracking number this time using a different carrier than the USPS the estimated delivery date is 2 days from now. I feel it's important to mention things like that so as not to leave it looking as though they didn't do everything possible to make sure I got my maxis Max. :) Excited
