Thanks Ange. I've been at that magic spot twice in the pre-dawn when cruise liners come around a blind bend and almost silently appear - huge and unbelievably close to shore, under their own steam with just one tug astern.
Both times I dropped the gear I was rigging and fumbled for my camera (phone), but got it too late to capture that first moment when the masive bow of the ship rounded the bend, dwarfing the cliff-face.
Photos don't do justice to the scale and just how close they come to the shoreline.
It's incredible how little wake they kick up too. Almost none. The passing ferries and other work boats send much bigger waves.

Considering my idea of a traffic jam is a mob of sheep being moved down the main road, I don't think I can ever fathom the size of those ships. It must be so impressive to see them the way you do.
