I got a couple of BB's some time back. DNA was an option. There was another factor there apart from any superiority of the chip. Apparently the DNA board was coated to protect it from juice leaks. That was a case where the choice was clear, though it had nothing to do with the chip itself. If the other chip had been coated and the DNA not coated then I would have gone the other way.
Well, there's the coolness factor.

I’m no boro expert but it’s been my experience that the rebuildable ones sooner or later will seep some liquid or condensation will build up on the back side of the panels. I’ve had better luck using drop in coil boro tanks and have some adapters for the nautilus 2s coils and some for gtx coils. On the positive side they are usually pretty durable and the tank is protected inside so you don’t have to worry about tank glass breaking. Most I’ve tried are pretty compact and comfortable to use.
Appreciate your thoughts and experiences with them. Since I rarely use a tank or anything with glass except the occasional RDTA , I’ll stick with my RDAs and squonkers. God knows how much I love my Topsides & LV Centaurus squonkers and wide open RDAs with a variety of incredible flavors and satisfying dense clouds.

The biggest con is that it is difficult to construct an airflow system that is as smooth as an RTA has.

I couldn’t agree with you more. When I got into box mods all I wanted was DNA devices and I’d play around with Escribe.
The more time went on and the more non DNA mods I was using I realized for myself that I really couldn’t tell the difference between a DNA mod and a chip from a “reputable” mod. Especially the Omni chips that Vaporesso was making at the time their Revenger series came out.
I will say though that I was really into temp control at the time and the DNA chip worked great but so didn’t the Yihi and Vaporesso chips.
I no longer temp control. I have a consistent vape as it is now. I know exactly when I need more juice and my wick is starting to dry out just by the vape. I think most long term vapers can tell that a dry hit may be near.
I’ve been fortunate because all the DNA devices I have have all been of great quality. However, I really take great care of my gear and I usually have 8-10 mods in rotation so that keeps one mod from getting used too often. If that makes sense.
I bought the Riva several months ago but not the DNA one which was close to if not more than $100 more than the standard Riva.
I’m sure that if I didn’t know which mod had which chip then I probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
I still love my DNA mods but not so much that it’s about the chip but about the overall design and quality that I find in those mods. This is obviously just my observation of my own vaping.
Great thing about vaping is that there are so many different ways to vape and so many choices of mods that everyone can find their own niche.
