Good to hear. And yes, I need lots more practice. This coil is not producing much flavor and almost no vapor. Like trying to suck an elephant through a straw. lol

I do roll one end of the cotton to thread. I have threaded a larger coil before. Evidently this one was a nano coil, or so I have been told. So today, going to use a bigger rod and play with placement of the coil on the deck of the Igo-L. I have to figure out how to do it so that I get flavor and vapor.

That Gizmo thingy is a miracle device though. I had more trouble getting the wire started than the winding of the coil.

Congrats! I knew you would master it. I saw a review of one yesterday that might change my mind. Look up the "EXpromizer". I realized what didn't appeal to me was the abscence of a tank. I can't sit still during a commercial, much less to drip would feel like torture. Convienence trumps flavor I guess. I'd be buying a pack in 15 min. of that. Different strokes, eh?

I heard of a different coil where you wrap the wick around the long center tube and somehow the coil heats that up. It was just mentioned and went over my head. But it sounds like there are ways to do it without threading cotton inside the little tiny micro coils. There's some videos of a coiling thing on YouTube from someone called DarkZero too. I liked his jig and it wouldn't be hard (for even me) to do.

But I knew you were going to figure out how to do it.

How do you get the cotton through the coil? I can not get it through the tiny tiny coil. I think I am going to wind another coil tomorrow with the next bigger rod and less wraps and see what I come up with.

That Gizmo device is amazing. I wound that coil in no time at all. And when I took it off and pinched it together with the tweezers and torched it with my bic lighter (yeah, I found one), it looked just like the ones on the youtube videos. Could have knocked me over with a feather.

I pull about the right size cotton wad (usually about 3" long) , put a little of whatever flavor is going to be used on my fingers, roll one end about 2" to about the size of a pin head, grab it about an inch from the end and push it through until I can grab the other end. I then pull it the rest of the way until it starts to give me resistance to the pull then snip it off. I usually have to snip just a hint off of the non rolled end.
That method is for EVODs and iclear 30Bs. For iclear 16s I use cotton yarn, roll 3 stands as tight as I can about 2", repeat above for how to get it started but 3 strands fit just right so I don't get any resistance, cit it to match the length of the old wick.
Hope that helps.

Too many contests?
You might consider a tablet. At least you can use that while sitting/laying in different positions.

Could be! just too much sitting, crunches down on the nerves, I have to try to remember to stretch more, not easy but it helps, also more water!

A new wrinkle! Stress today, big time. Turned into a drive through for lunch and ate a caramel sundae. Never occured to me that I didn't want a smoke! It's not a great thing, but for me, it's a good thing.

Hey, does anyone want to share a success story? What makes it easier for you not to smoke? What do you do to distract yourself when the urge hits?

Yup. Food helps (sad to say). I've caught myself eating while driving now in lieu of lighting up. I also blame LOX for introducing me to swedish fish, something I never had before and developed a serious craving for awhile. That was about a 5 lb experience. I think someone else mentioned peach rings, which were right next to gummy bears and you get the drift. I'd never visited that aisle before. Previously when I quit I'd suck on cinnamon sticks (natural ones are not spicy or hot, kinda woody), hard candies, etc. Driving gets to me, esp stupid other drivers and rush hour. There's limited options.

Coming into ECF, reading DIY section, planning to spend money, looking for deals; i.e. vapemail. That keeps me interested. Also not the healthiest I guess. Long time ago I used to go for a quick run. Very quick in the beginning, but as I stayed off cigs I could run further and further. It was motivating = an obsession. I'm an addict! Anything can become an addiction. It's sorta a game of lesser of the evils, picking your poisions.

Idk if that helped at all. I think your doing fine.

The last few days I've really missed something and smoked a cigarette today seeing if that's what it was.
OMG it tasted like I was inhaling a balloon or kids pool float. It did not satisfy the whatever I was craving the last few days. I did get so dizzy I could barely walk but had to drink a bunch of water to get that nasty plastic/rubber taste out of my mouth.
I really don't know what I'm craving but nicotine and/or a cigarette ain't it I did find out today.
I can't think of any juices I've had that I might be missing, it's just something I still can't put my finger on but it's driving me batty, even affecting my sleep.
Anybody else run into that? Did you ever figure out what it was or did it just eventually go away?

(almost) ex chain smoker here. Jumped into vaping head first, have a growing assortment of gear, and am building my own coils for some of my tanks/RDA's but for whatever reason, I can't 100% taste my juices like when I first started. Very frustrating because I find myself going through alot of liquid/coils/patience before I find something that tastes right. Am I just getting more and more picky? Have you all had this experience before?

I usually blend a couple strengths of Java from DuraSmoke with some pure PG to my liking. Its tasted perfect at this mix (I know there are easier ways to get there but): 100% VG 24MG (35%) 50/50 18MG (50%) and Pure PG (15%) The point being this worked very well for a while, but now it's not hitting like I need it to. New coils, clean tank, same resistance, wattage, everything. Am I missing a variable thats obvious to some veterans??? Or do I need to stop chain vaping and switch flavors for a while? I actually tried to mix in some tribecca (another tank, not mix juice) and it seems to help a little, but that starts tasting bland after a few puffs. Also - this is kinda odd, but vaped some apple cinamon and switched back to java (again, in a different tank/battery) and the after taste from the apple cinamon and coffe taste like flat beer!? ...?> LOL

Sorry that I'm all over the place, but just wanna get this working CONSISTENTLY so I don't have to smoke a cig to remind me that my juice actually tastes better (down to an average of 3 cigs per day from pack+)

btw.... I'm using an MVP2/ProTank 2 and some ego's with mini pro tanks for my all day vapes with stock coils (usually a fresh coil per day)

As others said below your post, sounds like you may have wrapped a nano coil. The 2 I put in my Octopus were purposely nano coils, and there's no chance I'd ever be able to string a wick through it that wouldn't choke it out. With small coils, I used dragon-style wicking. Under and over, leave one side of the coil unobsructed.

Way to go Shari!

Putting cotton under the coil is fine, particularly for a very small coil. I've heard it referred to as a "cloud" rather than as a wick, but that might have just been 1 guy on youtube.

As far as threading the cotton through, stretch out 1 end so it's very thin, then clip off the end of it (because that last tiny wisp always gets stuck on the coils). You should have a thin but reasonably rigid piece that will go through the coil. (I usually wet it by putting it in my mouth, and shaping it with my lips if that makes sense? Like you might do with a piece of thread before threading a needle?)

Congrats on your coil; here's to many more!

Case in point on that - coil too small for wick inside, go under/over.

My scissors are always close when I'm threading a wick through. That little wisp drives me nuts just looking at it, much less trying to get it all the way through :D

First welcome to the party, and second it sounds like you have a case of vaper's tongue. Basically you can't taste much of anything and the flavors run together.

Totally normal and it goes away with time. Everyone goes through it as taste buds regrow.

As far as the coils going up pro tank 2 I can normally get around three to four weeks out of each coil, but that might be a bit subjective depending on how hard you vape and your power settings.

That's some serious flavor percentages, hope it sorts itself out quick for you.

Mark, when I get like that I eat a few pickles and drink some of the juice. It seems to help a bit, guessing its the vinegar.

Hi, darksparkle!

ABSOLUTELY! I look at it as a choice. Smoke or vape. No judgement.

Lots and lots of times I just choose to vape.
Sometimes I choose to smoke instead.
The times I choose to smoke are getting much fewer and farther between.
But I don't keep score.
Some day I hope to realize that I accidentally went a month without smoking. And I think it's gonna happen.
Probably still a couple months away though. I'm OK with that.

Welcome to ECF, and this forum in particular! Lots of great people here! Not me, but the rest of these guys are OK.

I don't think it's flavor, taste , or anything else like that. It's something habit related that I can't put my finger on. Late at night I find myself instead of sleeping I want to step outside on the porch but if I do there's still something missing. It's not a taste or anything like that but I haven't figured it out yet. It's totally mental.

Mark,

Yes, you are missing cigarettes. Vaping is very close, and a very good replacement, but it is not the same thing as smoking.

Modern-day cigarettes are carefully concocted to be very addictive. This includes adding ammonia (which helps in nicotine absorption) as well as some things found naturally in tobacco (for example, MAOI's) that make them very difficult to quit. The MAOI's build up slowly in your system, and they also go away very slowly. And I believe their concentrations in a commercial cigarette are much higher than what is found in natural tobacco.

Cigarettes are "designer drugs" - when you quit, they hit you not just once, but several times. Just when you think you've gotten rid of them, there's something else that kicks in to try to draw you back in. I'm sure you've heard that catch-line "Nicotine is the most addictive substance on the planet". That's just not true. But cigarettes might well be the most addictive habit on the planet. And it's not a fundamental property of tobacco; they're designed to be that way.

Hang in there. It's not "totally mental" it's "totally chemical". And it will pass, with time! Vaping is a tremendous help, but there's still another piece that has to come from you.

(Says the guy who still can't start the day without a cigarette most of the time!)
