OK, now that I'm home from work and can comment decently without having to move the truck every 2 minutes I'll try to break this down some. I'm far from an expert, but here's my 2 cents.
(almost) ex chain smoker here. Jumped into vaping head first, have a growing assortment of gear, and am building my own coils for some of my tanks/RDA's but for whatever reason, I can't 100% taste my juices like when I first started. Very frustrating... Am I just getting more and more picky? Have you all had this experience before?
I usually blend a couple strengths of Java from DuraSmoke with some pure PG to my liking. Its tasted perfect at this mix... New coils, clean tank, same resistance, wattage, everything. Am I missing a variable thats obvious to some veterans??? Or do I need to stop chain vaping and switch flavors for a while? I actually tried to mix in some tribecca (another tank, not mix juice) and it seems to help a little, but that starts tasting bland
btw.... I'm using an MVP2/ProTank 2 and some ego's with mini pro tanks for my all day vapes with stock coils (usually a fresh coil per day)
Starting from the top, there are a lot of things going on here and that means lots of variables. So let's keep it simple and just work with your favorite set up (I'll assume its the pro tank and MVP for clarity).
First off, most of the time brand new pro tank coils (and most stock coils for that matter have a "bedding in" period, during that time they will produce less than optimum flavor and vapor but I will just focus on flavor.
The idea of getting a coil to "bed in" just means to get fully saturated with juice and start wicking properly, and its a slightly different amount of time for each coil since they are made by hand (this even applies to me when I just re-wick an existing coil). You might get around 90% of the flavor right away and see that flavor become a bit stronger as you use the coil for a few hours, silica wicks can be notorious for this and tend to under-wick in the beginning (one of the reasons I moved to cotton). Also, when you change flavors frequently your taste buds can get burned out (the same way they do if you go sample several fragrances back to back in a short amount of time); still its nothing to worry about, just vape the same flavor for a half hour or so and then try the switch again.
About switching tanks, I have noticed (maybe some of you have noticed it too) that some tanks give a better or true-er flavor than others (not counting that "factory-fresh" taste if not washed well) and that is just a preference thing on my part. IMO, my favorite drip tip almost gagged me before I washed it till it nearly cried for mercy lol. The thing with building coils is that very tiny differences can change subtle things in your flavor and the way it comes out as you vape it, not something big for now but it might be later. The key for me hasn't been perfection but repetition, if I can't repeat that vape that I loved when I first built it I will head to the store for the bad stuff... I would highly suggest a simple micro coil that you can just rewick every few days while the coil stays intact and on the RDA if you want to start with rebuildables and are having issues.
Like I said in my earlier post, I think you just have a case of vapers tongue and it will go away in a few days on its own. I will say that in my experience smoking a cigarette will not help get over it, it will actually make it stay longer.
If you can't get past the flavor block, I have a "melt your tastebuds" menthol that is strong enough to do everything but the dishes, just ask TopDog lol. I would be happy to send you a sample of it, kinda doubt most people would vape it all day like I do
Anyway, that's my thoughts on it, just yell if you need something and I'm sure someone will be around. Happy vaping and Embrace the Suck!!
