I'm still here and check in every day, but I noticed lately that nobody was talking about vaping or smoking. There was more social stuff going on in here, so I just ducked out and went home.

I've been struggling like a dog lately and smoking......................Finally started vaping again today.
Ok, I'll say it. I'm back to smoking off and on... again :(
I am sorry you both are struggling. Please don't beat yourselves up! Sendin' good vibes and strength your way.

I agree, beating yourselves up about it won't do any good. If you're going to smoke, then enjoy the hell out of it! You know that at some point, you're finally going to get rid of them, so while they're still a part of your life, then you should enjoy them, or why bother! That was the main thing behind both my own quits, the cigarettes just got to be so totally nasty to me, I couldn't abide them anymore; the vaping was and is so much more enjoyable -- and cheaper, and that pleases my skin-flint soul to no end. :D

Quitting because of pressure is never very successful. But quitting because of free and unfettered choice, that kind sticks. You'll get there!

It happens man. I haven't met a single smoker who hasn't quit and went back at one point or another. But as stated before this, don't pressure and stress yourself about quitting. It will come. Right now get everything good with you. Worry about the smokes when that time comes round.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Best wishes man.

I hear you there, Thaya. I am vaping more than I used to smoke, I think. I am still at 12mg most of the time. I keep trying to drop to 9mg or 6mg and I just vape more and more. So I am staying at 12mg for now. I am still teetering on the fence about DIY - just have not had the place or energy to really start with it. I need to. Even with sales, the vendor juice is killing me, cost wise.

I truly think that I will no longer pick up a cigarette. With my neck surgery and my sister dying the same day, and then our best life long friend dying a couple weeks later, I did not even think of smoking a cigarette. But if I did not have my Provari - watch out world.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with their demons. It is a longer process than many think. All the stories of people never picking up another cigarette once they take their first vape are just that. Stories, but only partly told. Some may never smoke a cigarette again but there is much more to putting that addiction behind you than to just start vaping. That is the easy part. It is the work you need to do mentally that is the real battle. Probably not much different than other major addictions. Takes work over a long period of time.

The good news is that with the work you can find a place you are comfortable with. The support of other people who understand your journey is/was the key to my continuing success. I still have the ups and downs of thoughts of smoking. Being around smokers is not a trigger for me anymore, but, to my amusement, if I am watching an old movie with main characters smoking, I get actual cravings to light one up. I find that strange.

I couldn't agree more. Even after being off cigarettes for nearly 1 1/2 years I still feel like I'm only 1 cigarette away from returning to being a smoker. Some people can have an occasional cigarette and not go back to it full force. I don't think I could do that, and I don't want to find out either. I was a very heavy smoker and now I'm a very heavy vaper. I started off at 24mg nic and am now down to 6mg without cravings. Thank goodness we have vaping to help us along. I tried, and couldn't do it any other way.

Hi, Rotowoman. Stick around and keep posting here and in other threads that you feel a connection with. You never know where your light bulb of inspiration may come from. Even if that light bulb only stays lit for a few hours or a few days. I like to read some the New Posts and try to help a little where I can. Sometimes just sharing your struggle with another new struggling vaper helps you as much as them. Sometimes it is better to not go there.

There was a few months when most of the newer posters were all sub ohming and all about clouds. Lately I have run into several more people starting off with more basic gear, where I feel I can help a little. It helps me with my journey.

I agree with what Thaya said. It does help to try to figure out what your triggers are. In the early days for me, being awake was a trigger. But slowly I was able to start working on what to do for the different situations that would set me off. Early on I tried to stay away from smokers and my chimney of a sister, then I would try to power think my way through other situations.

I know I have told this story here many times, but on a few occasions those first few months I sat there at the computer, posting here, with an unlit cigarette in one hand and my Spinner in the other hand. For upwards of 20 minutes. I just kept vaping and posting. The cigarette never did get lit, but it helped my self confidence and resolve to know that I did that and did not light the cigarette. It gave me a feeling like I won that one. I acknowledged to myself that I am making a conscience decision to vape. I don't advise this for other people; this is just to tell you one of many different little tricks and ideas I would try to keep vaping and not smoke.

You will get to where you want to be when the time is right. Sometimes pushing it only adds more stress. For me I think I needed that stress to force myself to make a choice every day or so. Just my charge right through and run them all over personality, I guess.

Rotowoman, I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling with smoking. I struggled with being a dual user for 4 months before I was finally able to give up the smokes. And that was on my third separate attempt!

What seems to be the thing causing you the most problems? Stress, personal or social triggers, equipment/juice problems, cravings and other things can all contribute to making us revert back to our old 'friend'... cigarettes. Trying to zero in on the problem could help you figure out how to best fight it.

Hell, it's been six months, and this is the worst setback I've had yet! I think it's more stress than anything else. I've been working a lot of overtime and been super busy and super tired. Left one of my MVPs at work and couldn't go back for it since I work 3 hours away from home. Just a bunch of assorted BS. I feel like I'm just copping out.

See my join date? See my titles? I'm coming up on 5 years, have darn near every piece of gear you can think of, and...
I still smoke. I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably going to be a dual user forever. Fact is after my last attempt to quit and my nasty flare up of Crohn's I'm afraid to quit again. Even my Dr said a few cigarettes a day is probably better than the side effects of the drugs I was on.
I also like smoking. It's more convenient for me with my job. I have enough stuff to carry without tons if gear (I actually still use a cig alike at work). Sometimes too I'm on a job 4-5 hours without a break and unless I can chain vape it doesn't cut it for me. I also use Swedish Snus at work and that helps a lot too.
I used to smoke close to 3 packs of Marlboro a day and now I'm about half a pack of RYO. I can live with that.
So don't beat yourselves up. Count the ones you don't smoke. You're not a failure - as long as you keep trying you're a fighter.
I know quite a few dual users that are here as long if not longer than me, they just don't make it known to avoid being hassled. That's why I started this thread and I think it's helped many to either quit smoking, or keep vaping.
I monitor this thread (and the whole pif forum) constantly - I just don't post much - as I'm just really busy at work. But I'll find time when someone needs help. So don't be afraid to ask.

Same here.

I literally laughed out loud when I read this because I can totally relate!

I can totally relate to this one Lox, just getting in my truck I have a toolbag, paperwork bag, lunchbox and 1 gallon(yes you read that right) coffee pot; so for me carrying a ton of extra gear and finding a place for it is a challenge.

I still vape on a few different mods at work, but when my hands are covered in god-knows-what and I'm elbow deep in coal it's easier to just stick a cigarette in my mouth than to get my almost $200 mod nasty. Not to mention, chucking clouds at work means open windows and cleaning them daily, but at least they're clean!

I'm not trying to beat myself up over it, but I was over the 2 month mark and can feel the difference in my lungs since I went back to smoking even part time. I WILL get there again, it's just a matter of time.

Been fighting it since my sister passed and things have just gone downhill since then, trying to avoid the whole sob story thing

I'm sorry to hear about your sister (all of you).

I lost my sister a few months ago. One day we were plannig a vacation to the four corners together and the next day she's in the e.r. on ice with cardiac arrest. I'm an orphan. I've lost all my close friends and I'm not that old. They were between 50 - 60. Aren't people supposed to live until at least 65? I feel kinda lost.

My sister had quit smoking 20+ years ago and wondered why I didn't "just quit" like she had. She's been on my case about smoking forever and was trained as one of those "just quit" counselors (yup, a know-it-all diva that drove me mad). She also confessed that one of the reasons she was such a militant non-smoker was that even a tiny whiff or sight of a cigarette brought back cravings. I guess those don't completely go away. It was nice that she was that honest though.

My hunch is that those who don't pick up a cigarette again after they start vaping are taking their success for granted and either they are really, really lucky or it just hasn't happened yet. Or as some suggest, fudging the truth. It is what it is and you are where you are (yea, Cat Steven's is singing in my head now).

I also think there's something to moods and smoking that isn't fully explained by nicotine. I also know stress is a trigger for me and the more I stressed about not smoking, the more I wanted one. It wasn't working for me like that. I know for others it does, but not for me. If I gave myself permission to have a pack around and my vapes were ready to go, then I'd choose the vapes.

Life is crappy sometimes. That's how we notice when it isn't, I guess.

Thank you all so much for the encouragement. That's why I keep coming back to these forums. I'm thinking that some of it is the ease of just picking up a cigarette instead of dealing with vape equipment. However, I have found that I really DO prefer to vape. I think I'm getting to the point where I have the equipment I need. I'm not beating myself up right now. Right now I'm actually sitting here vaping at work.

Hello all,
Sorry to be a pain in the ...., ...., I can't find the response that someone sent me listing at least three places where I could buy WTAs. I've put in every search word I could think of except WTA because I know that will give me more hits than I could possible dream to look through. I was hoping that who ever sent that to me could send in again and this time i'll copy and print it out for my future reference.
Please and Thank You,
TxTig

aromaejuice.com -- originator; highest cost for the pure WTA (as opposed to their WTA-infused ejuice);

wholecigs.com -- mid priced; excellent quality, completely clear, no bad smell (I suppose it tastes much like regular nicotine); all theirs is the "pure WTA,"; they don't sell WTA-infused ejuice;

mothersmilkwta.com -- lowest cost; even their "pure WTA" unflavored has a very dark yellow, almost-murky appearance, and anywhere from a strong to a mild smoky scent -- which is great in tobacco vapes, not so much in anything else. They offer either all-VG or 50/50 PG/VG which I just love. They also have WTA-infused ejuice, which I've heard is pretty good.

They all seem to work about the same, to me.
