That Spec Sheet is cutoff... not much useful info there, no Resistivity, no temp factors.. Did he send it to you cut off like that ?
It's a standard mill sheet which normally does not include data for resistivity, TCR etc. which are only of interest to weird folks like us (vapers). :)

DWcraig1 - Try making a coil without torching first. Then torch to Red glow and dunk in water. Then stretch it out & lightly hit it with the torch. If it recoils itself then the mystery is solved. Could just be a Chinglish error ordered Nifithal, but got Nitinol.
Titanium is listed as remainder in the main chemical composition section meaning aprox 47% titanium content, whereas the Fe is listed as balance, but in the impurities section so balance would be a trace amount <1% Fe
If I'm right you will be able to do some cool tricks with your coils at the local B&M, but probably wont vape worth a hoot.

So I tried that and nope, no memory. It just about can't be coiled without torching it. Torch it and it wraps just about like Kanthal, real easy.

Been having a conversation with @TheotherSteveO in the SX M thread speculating that your torching might have changed the wire properties.

This post (apparently) confirms I am WRONG about that.

I would say it can't be wrapped unless annealed, and have it look like the desired item.

If I read correctly a few posts back you are using .4mm or 26awg? If so it doesn't sound like NiFe 52 you've got there.
I have 2 versions & both are a pleasure to wrap coils with. Softer then Kanthal A1. They feel more like Nichrome 80 then Kanthal.
They wrap so easy that I don't torch them till after I wrap them.
The only difference between the 2 I have is resistance See my head to head comparison post [HASHTAG]#2409[/HASHTAG] Otherwise they look & feel the same.

Alright, I took a 6" piece of reported 24 ga NiFe52 to test first. SE says it should be .51mm but this measures .48mm. Off the spool, it was crazy stiff. One large loop on the Velocity deck, ohms reported - DNA200 - 0.652, DNA40 - 0.603, and SXMM - 0.61. Dry burned and cleaned with IPA on a napkin, no marks so it seems very clean. On a 2.5mm coil master rod, 6 wraps and it sprung to 2.75mm. After spacing the coil, it was about 2.78mm, reading 0.314 ohm. Setting SE value to 0.48 mm, it said it should be 0.315 ohms.
Edit: forgot to add using the coil in a STplus.

Using the SE csv curve, it wouldn't work with temp control... it kicked to power mode every time. I changed it to the TCR value of 0.00404 and it would stay in temp control reporting a temp of only ~155 F while vaping. Using the SE csv for SS304 and it seemed to work much better.

Also, did anyone else get a sample of SS317L in 24 ga with their order? I'll have to give this a try later.

Hey guys, So i'm making my way through this thread and I recently purchased a Smok Xcube 2. I want to put an order in for some wire for temp control, but I'm actually more confused now than when I began. Should I just start off with Ni200 and call it a day or is it worth it to order SS or titanium (kind nervous about this one). I know the Smok can handle the different metals as long as I upgrade the firmware.

Note: I'm still reading through the thread!! There's a lot of information to go through, it might take weeks!

u should be more worried about nickel than titanium. if it pops out of tc with nickel it can melt and u could potentially get it in ur mouth.

What RDA/RTA are you going to use? Do you prefer contact coils or spaced coils?

Right now, I'd recommend SS430 from Unkamen. It can be dry burned and used as contact or spaced coil. The one drawback is its only available in 28 ga and it seems performs better when twisted at this gauge. Hopefully in the near future, it'll be offered in 24/26 gauge, which I think will be best.

about what? i have had nickel melt on me from it doing that, and so have other people. i wasnt trying to make it sound like nickel was bad to use just that he shouldnt be worried about titanium more than it.

I have NEVER had Nickel "melt" and have been using it for very nearly a year.
