Ok, I have read many threads here concerning vapers feeling odd in public, being approached by overzealous anti's who have nothing better to do than stick their noses in others business (read: Hardcore Liberal)) and even being hassled by the police.

I have not yet begun to vape in public (currently awaiting my kits) but I have been carrying a lawfully acquired and legal firearm on my person for quite a few years and trust me when I tell you that the encounters with anti's and under-informed police officers are tenfold when dealing with a firearm.

You cannot allow yourself to feel awkward or embarrassed. The steadfast anti's will be there regardless and nothing you do or say will change their opinion. The people that are on the fence are there for a reason. Offending one of these fence sitters will not drive them to be an anti as they are likely level headed enough to understand that one apple does not always ruin the barrel. In fact, that is how they came to sit on the proverbial fence... by not rashly jumping to conclusions or taking baseless and emotional opinions to be concrete fact.

vape where you want and if/when you get approached, respond calmly and informatively and if the approacher doesn't want to hear it, walk away for you have just met an anti and their opinion will not change and most of the time they approached you with the intent of causing a stir. If they continue to harass you, notify the authorities that your rights are being violated. If the approacher listens and attempts to understand your position, you have just met a fence sitter.

If you are approached by the owner of an establishment (on his/her property) and you are asked to leave, do so without a fuss. Do not create a scene for they have the right to control who is on their property. Inform them that they have just lost your business and vote with your wallet.

You cannot allow closed-minded anti's to control your actions or you have just succumbed to their intentions.

That is all for now. :)

I feel that e-cig's should get an official name change to Personal Vaporizor, or some other name that fits. There shouldn't be a connection to smoking in the name as vaping has little connection to smoking aside from both containing nicotine. While it's seems trivial, I feel it would go a long way in opening people eyes to the reality of vaping. The term is old and outdated and people that have predetermined misconceptions about them automatically assume the worst because of the name, IMO.

The current common name is a double edged sword. For the manufacturing companies, it is a genius marketing campaign. A "personal vaporizer" to your everyday person can mean many different things, "e-cigarette" means very few, relates to smoking cigarettes and since smokers are the target of the advertising... the name works.

For the industry to survive IMO, the connection between smoking and vaping must continue (no matter how bad it seems to you and I). If the relation of smoking to vaping is lost amongst smokers (and soon to be ex-smokers) the target audience is gone (or considerably smaller) and the industry will suffer. Right now there are a bunch of skeptics... but just wait until the FDA approves it as a smoking cessitation device (which I think they will). The general public will change their tune about it and the anti's will blend into the crowds.
